What is Spiritus?

Image
----Spiritus is a republic, loosely themed on the primordial elements, that prides
---- itself on its democratic principles. We advocate these principles through our
-----foreign affairs as well as through the Spiritus Defense Force, our defender military
---- that works to safeguard the right of natives to democratic self-determination
---- throughout NationStates. We are a fun, laid back community focused on working
---- together rather than dramatic and disruptive politicking and infighting.

We, at Spiritus, believe that everyone deserves to have lovely Chocolate-Chip Cookies. Thus, we create the most delicious gluten-free ones, for those members who are unable to eat regular cookies. If you're able to ingest the ebil gluten, then you may help yourself to the regular supply! (provided you become a citizen)

Our of curiousity, would Spiritus, being all about its democratic principles, defend a region that doesn't have them? (Such as one where the people certainly didn't 'elect' their WAD, or one that is affiliated with dictatorial, authortarian or otherwise undemocratic ideologies).

We very likely would. While we do pride ourselves on our democratic principles, we also believe that natives have a right to self-determination -- which is to say they have a right to reject democratic governance, and a right not to have democratic governance imposed upon them by external forces. I would add that few if any raiders would invade a region for the purpose of imposing democracy upon it, so the typical defense of such a region would not involve thwarting efforts to implement democratic self-government but simply thwarting efforts to take over and cause damage.

That said, we do have a policy against defending Nazi regions currently in force. There are limits to what we will defend, and as a political region rather than a professional gameplay organization our military will be subject to our regional interests and we reserve the right to decide which regions we will and will not defend based on our interests. But as a general principle, we don't believe that democracy should be imposed from outside and we believe that a non-democratic government chosen by natives is preferable to any alternative that would be offered by the typical invader force.

People don't 'choose' nondemocratic government. :P

You're defenders. Don't cloak your choice to be defender in faux-democratic language.

A region doesn't have to be a pure democracy to be democratic.
