There is good reason to remove the "negative" Awards and retain only the positive Awards -- that removes a lot of the negativity going around. But will that happen? No. Because I'm suggesting it and this is a FRA run award ceremony with TITO to back you when UDL proposes something.

Stop complaining. If youu cannot handle the ribbing and being nominated for certain awards then stay away.

Cool banner. It has a hippy feel to it.

Has it been 7 years already? I still remember the first and second defender awards when I was working closely with Merlion, CC, etc. How time flies.

I've read all the threads in question and I gotta' tell ya' Uni, if you think that's a "political bloodbath", this might not be the game for you. Stop crying.

It is a very good lion, and I think we're all glad you took your time and found the best lion for the job. In fact, I think we should nominate you for Lion Finder of the Year, on the basis that you can't have an argument over that award. You've won it fair and square.

I find it a tad sad that there are only two defending operations for Best Operation. While ITALIA and Anarchy were impressive, it shows that not many major defense accomplishments stood out last year. I hope to see defenders step it up this year.

I don't.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

Voting Instructions

Postby Defender Awards 2013 » Thu Jan 24, 2013 11:52 am

Now that nominations are closed, the voting stage has begun.

Voting will close on February 7th at midnight GMT, and will be followed by the Awards Ceremony.

There are a number of avenues by which you can vote:

1) Send a Private Message to the 'Ballot Collector' on the FRA forum.

2) Send a Private Message to 'Gruffydd Ap Llywelyn 2' on the regional forums of 10000 Islands, 'Wopruthien' in Texas or the Rejected Realms or 'Wop' in the UDL.

3) Send a Telegram Message to the nation 'Defender Awards 2013'.

http://www.nationstates.net/nation=defender_awards_2013

In your message please indicate clearly the names of those who you wish to vote for.

Please remember there is one vote for every award - if you vote for more than one person for a specific award, then those votes will be discounted.

You can only vote for those people who are nominated - write-in nominations will not be accepted.

The confirmed nominations list is here.

Please note: Although there are a number avenues by which it is possible to vote only one vote per award per person is permitted. All ballots received via telegram will be vetted to ensure they are not puppet accounts, and any votes from people I suspect have already voted will be discounted.

Happy voting!

Or people just agreed that those were the ones that should win the actual award. *shrugs*

Anyways, cheers for voting starting! :)

I will again register my protest that the "Defender of the Year" award was re-named. Eurosoviets was a fantastic defender. Besides co-founding the Red Liberty Alliance, he was a stalwart defender of democratic values, of giving natives voices in their regions, and giving regions voices in the alliances that they joined. If every defender were like him, there would be no more invaders.

Because their forums would be destroyed.

Aaand that's why the award was renamed.

And I don't see it being renamed anytime soon after any defender in particular.

Numero Capitan wrote:"We used to have this named after a prominent defender but then got told that he offended some people once so wasn't an appropriate namesake but then we realised that every defender upsets someone at some point so it doesn't matter that much but because we're politically correct we're still not going to name him so we're just going to have to allude to him in the title Award"

Oh, please. Eurosoviets had nothing to do with that.

The Eurosoviets Award is a fitting name given that the defender community for years condoned forum destruction. ES and the RLA were totally blindsided by the NS community's forceful rejection of the destruction of the Invaders forum. Indeed the RLA signed off on several forum destructions before the Invaders one, yet nobody batted an eye.

Actually, ES was more of a politician using defending as a front to further his agenda... (gods I love and miss those old arguments from the ADN forum...)

While I admit that there are defenders who supported what was done, even in the ADN, such as Unistrut, the defender "community" never condoned it.

Which should appeal to the FRA, and yet...

Sadly the "Free4All Award" proposal was shot down by the FRA and TITO.
