It was a warm and calm evening in the Sanctuary. Ben had not yet arrived for the promised ride for the night. The clock was drawing near and yet the assassins were still idling in the sanctuary. As they sit and drink a few more mugs of alcohol a crow lands outside of a window. A scroll evidently tied to its right leg. Sister VictOria opened the window and took the crow, gently grabbing it and taking the scroll. "A letter from Ben", she spoke to the waiting assassins. "It seems he will be giving his place to me for the night!", her face glowed with excitement. "I just have the most interesting raid in mind!". Those present all nodded. And all was set for another nice of malice.

However, as the clock drew ever nearer to the final minute, dark and corrupt forces lurked amongst the land, waiting to sabotage the assassins. And alas, these corrupt forces struck an early blow, spreading the corruption of confusion to Sister Victoria. But,The Overseer protects and guides those who maintain the creed of The Brotherhood. Raider Unity, Maintain a Founder, Sign a Treaty. With burning malicious intent, Sister Victoria delivered till the end. Her band of merry assassins followed suit.

Assassin Scottiesland demolished Warzone Airspace, putting a blade deep into the World Assembly Delegate and banjecting them to their rightful places. Add more to this fine motley of unlikely heroes of the update was the rare appearance of the Imp himself, Thorn1000, fighting his own battle against the corruption to heighten even more his demonic speed, frightening truly for both friend and foe. Meanwhile, the Art Curator,Zacherie blitzed to get the point time and time again, even managing a fine triple crown to add to his growing collection, ~~well if you count Suspicious too that is~~.

As the time drew to an end, Sister Victoria looked back at her list of regions hit. "A productive night indeed", she whispered to herself as she finally turned towards the direction of the Sanctuary once more. For some reason, the others cannot help but notice the smell of blood exuding when near her presence.

Minor, May 2, 2022:

Whisp, capable operative though she may be, is known to be... difficult to work with. Possessing a quicksilver temper and a habit of getting snippy when contradicted, confronted with the unexpected, or just waking up on the wrong side of the bed, the volatile fae has endangered her own missions too many times to count- it's indeed a wonder how so many of her brethren assassins continue to associate with her.

Take today, where a simple planning meeting ends up spiraling out of control. Many of the usual suspects have gathered- alongside some avian comrades- to plot their latest mission; a particularly high-priority assassination ordered by The Overseer themselves. Needless to say, the stakes are high.

"Okay everyone, we have an important mission today. It'll be a tricky job, but if we plan things carefully I'm sure we-"

"Hey Whisp, can we burn down Ballsmoment again? It'll be really funny, I promise"

"No can do, this is a time-sensitive operation and-"

"Ooh ooh, can we hit Stargate? I wanna go steal the pizza Madjack promised to have delivered there"

"Please, everyone. We can't afford to get distracted, the Ov-"

"Whispppp, can we bring the crayons out again? It's been a while since i got to practice my art and-"

"Hey Whisp, do you think i could drive someone mad just from staring at them with my babyfa-"

"Whispwhispwhisp will you let me burn down the first one if i beat everyone else in a race there??"

"Just listen to me fOR ONCE OR GODS HELP ME I'LL-"

"Hey!! What if we used some porcupines as a distraction? It'll be just like what Hannibal did with the ele-"

An explosion rips through the air, the map on the meeting room's wall seen smouldering and pitted with little holes as the smoke clears. Amidst it all floats Whisp, arms wrapped around a shotgun three times her size, her flight left erratic by the shot's recoil. The remaining assassins look at each other wordlessly for a long moment. Then, a cry of "RUN..!!" sounds, and they make a mad dash for the exit, more shotgun blasts echoing in their wake as the crazed fae chases them through region after region, razing dozens to the ground before they collectively run out of steam.

In the end, what was meant to be a precision operation ends with swathes of destruction, leaving little but rubble in the group's wake. Surely such an act of wanton violence should raise eyebrows, but the long-suffering assassins merely chalk it up as 'just a Whisp thing', and life goes on, the fae momentarily satiated.

It all started with Whisp. That wasn’t something Thorn said nor thought often. Today, that was the case. After shooting him in the wing with a shotgun, Thorn had a bone to pick with the little fae. Today wasn’t that day, however. Today was Monday. Monday meant it was time to perform the sacred raid of Monday. It was this week that the higher ups had chosen Thorn to lead the prayer to the overseer, and Thorn would not be letting them down.

The plan was simple. Thorn had a vendetta against anything that was older than he. At the top of the list was the glorious ~~nation~~ region of Canada. The leader in those lands had reigned 1748 days straight. Thorn wasn’t exactly sure how long that was, but the Ever-Wander told him it was a few. The Ever-Wander had committed an act of regicide the week prior, taking out the leader of Texas who Thorn was told had reigned a long time as well.

As it turns out, the imp’s inability to read also extended into reading maps. Thorn has somehow taken them all to Middle Earth. The Ever-wanderer took a glance at Thorn’s map book and it turned out that Thorn was leading the way using a tattered copy of The Hobbit which was an odd thing for an imp who cannot read to own. The Ever-Wanderer leant Thorn a copy of his own map and Thorn led the way into Canada.

As it turns out, imps have a very small bladder. In the final moments of the siege of Canada cried insistently to be taken to use the restroom. Unfortunately, yellow snow wasn’t allowed, so Gladio III took Thorn to go use the restroom in Latinoamerica Libre. Furious that he missed the assassination, Thorn led them all into another territory of the queen, Warzone Australia. Why Thorn picked that was anyone’s guess, but he burnt it to the ground and his bloodlust was satiated til the next update.

Next up on the list of things to do was something simple Thorn had done 1000 times, a tag raid. Gathering several of his closest allies he set out. The name of the game was accuracy. Thorn was hellbent on hitting 100% of his targets. He led his troops to every corner of NationStates, and he was 100% accurate, except for a target of his that was stolen by the hawks. 33/34 targets hit. Thorn would remember that. He took his frustration out on the “Featured Region of the Day”. It felt good to light that on fire as therapy

With that operation concluding, Thorn had worked for 3 updates in a row. This may have been a new record for Thorn, he wasn’t entirely sure, he couldn’t count that high. He was looking forward to sleeping on his bed of nails. They had just been sharpened even! He was just laying down in order to rest when the Ever-Wanderer burst into his den. “What does he want from me” Thorn thought to himself “He better be singing my praises after the Monday ritual he fell asleep for.” Thorn did not like the big words that the Ever-Wanderer used. It gave him a headache.

“Thorn, if I were to give you all the resources in the world, would you do me a favour and burn these specific places to the ground?” The Ever-Wanderer said in his usual posh accent.

Thorn took a glance at the list. It was mostly places he would never raid, domains that he wouldn’t have power in, since they followed one of the core tenants of raiderdom and “maintained a founder”. “What do you want me to do with most of these? They can’t even be burned, and they don’t hoard crayons for me to use.” Thorn asked in a bleary and tired voice.

“Yes, I know my favourite feral imp, but they are enemies of our allies for voting against us in the halls of the world” stated the Ever-Wanderer.

It was at this moment that Thorn remembered the shame that Whisp had inflicted on him the day prior by shooting him with a shotgun and, even worse, one upping him and getting the highest single day kill count in the brotherhood. Thorn knew what had to be done. “You said all the resources in the world?” Thorn asked with both glee and anxiety.

“Whatever you are in need of, name it” the Ever-Wanderer’s silver tongue promised him

Thorn gave him a very long list filled with impossible things such as the sound of a cat's footfall, the beard of a woman, the roots of a mountain, the sinews of a bear, the breath of a fish, and the spittle of a bird. To Thorns absolute shock, the Ever-Wanderer made those things appear. Still crabby at missing out on more sleep, Thorn followed the Ever-Wanderer to the war room to plan out what would need to be done.

It took 2.5 hours to consolidate every target that would be hit. This was a lot of work for an imp with an attention span that measured in seconds, not hours. But with several hours to spare, they got it drafted. The Ever-Wanderer slunk off to Overseer-knows-where to find people to help them that night. Thorn had set up enough hits to break the record for one day kills set in his youth. 121. If he broke that, then Whisp stood no chance of being the coolest assassin.

The night was upon them, people Thorn had never met had come out to help, along with friends of new and old. He led them the best he could, and in the end, he hit 144 targets with their help. Most of his own choosing, but some of the Ever-Wanderer’s.

Upon the news of this, the enemies they conspired against started to weave their tales and woes for all to hear. "Yeah but I already did it, and they didnt even try and stop me." Thorn blearily stated. "Whisp can have fun trying to one up that" he added under his breath.

Thorn started to sway in place as the Ever-Wanderer lead him to his bed. Thorn asked the Ever-Wanderer to read the hate to him as a bedtime story. It made him stronger.

“It is pretty disappointing to see that once again, The Black Hawks have resorted to dirty, underhanded and frankly immature tactics such as- “the Ever-Wanderer started

“THEY SAID WHAT ABOUT ME?” Thorn bolted up and screamed

“They called you immature?” The Ever-Wanderer questioned

“No, they called me a Hawk. I’m an assassin. I did this as an assassin.” Thorn ranted

“My dear imp, just because there were a few hawks in the flock of imps doesn't mean they were all hawks! We will correct them” the Ever-Wanderer stated, attempting to soothe the livid imp.

“Im not a f$*@^g hawk-” Thorn continued ranting. *
*The rest has been cut because it made even the centuries old Vampire King and Night Father blush.

Thank you *bows* . It ‘‘twas a ton of work. No exaggeration it took about an hour to totally set the shotguns and I was adjusting the list at least once an hour up til update start. All in all, 3 teams with ~63 hits each (ignoring some points where teams merged). It was a ton of fun, but damn do I never want to do that again

Another Monday, Another Relaxing Night

Depicted: Malice enjoying a pint and pretzels before revisiting some old sites

"Alright so uhhh here's the plan." The officer's lounge looked at each other before turning back to the Night Father. "You have a plan?"

Venico's hand hurriedly waved away their concerns. "No, of course not. I've been away from the hideout all weekend and Brother Rax showing up as a surprise on my way home sort of made that an impossibility. However what I do have..." With another motion his hand knocked over his stein. Beer dribbled across the maps and onto the binding of some old books containing their history. Venico's eyes glimmered, "I have an idea."

Their first stop was very intentional. A bar with a designated boxing ring where the lads could get their energy up. Punches were thrown, windows were broken and many a patron were thrown out into the streets. Above all, Vict0ria won out and claimed the bar as her own. "Should any of us stop her?"

"No, she already threw out the Ever Wanderer. No need for more collateral." Eventually the officers gathered everyone, including Vic, after they told her that she had indeed won the day. Down the streets they wandered and continued along their journey behind the Night Father.

"I'll uhhh take a dozen or so pretzels. Got any beer? No? Alright well we've probably had our fill anyways." The Night Father stood in front of a cart with some salted bread, trying to gather some snacks for his assassins. The journey was long, and many of these newer blades were much more impatient, especially on an empty stomach. Some gold was exchanged, probably too much for the snack, but he needed to get his ruffians back on the road before another brawl started out.

Going to Church was something of a Malice tradition. "See where our allies and enemies once stood my young ones?" Venico gestured to the scrubbed script on the walls. "There was once a time that we had some strange bedfellows, but they were our brothers at that time all the same. And we should look on that kindly."

Once again, the Night Father began steering the group.

Outside of the toy workshop they stopped. Venico paused as he opened the door and a defensive unit of elves began pouring out and pelting stones at the group. "My eye!" cried Koth as they organized a hasty retreat from their destination. "I just wanted to teach these kids some history, you blasted elves!" Venico let out, dodging a candy cane aimed at his head.

Still, they wandered back to the hideout and nursed their wounds from bar punches, and reindeer hooves. Cups of warm tea, cold ale, and something approximating water were passed around. Ice packs and gauze were applied. Venico had the Ever Wanderer in a headlock over a discrepancy about flags. Koth was passed out in an opened coffin, and Rax curled up nearby.

Ben looked over at the leadership and chirped, "Same time next week?"

Ben was glad to have come back after a nice long trip, even bringing along his good friend Emu. He looked about the place of the Brotherhood. The sanctuary was going about its normal business. Drinks and food were being served to patrons, contracts for assassins were being stuck to the big bulletin at the corner of the room, and he saw the Night Father himself, getting drunk, supposedly having managed to win a fortune of Penny flowers, from gambling, whatever value those might have.

As the Night Father got himself further wasted, Ben saw Sister Victoria and the Thorn, the Imp, on one of the nearby tables. Ben approached them. How you doing fellow assassins?, Ben greeted them as he took a seat from the next table and sat on it to join them. "IMP", Thorn corrected. Nothing much Brother", said Sister Victoria. "Although, Thorn here is unhappy that the Night Father literally bought almost all the beer from the Sanctuary for himself". The three all looked at Venico who was chugging on his, probably, ~~753rd~~ DCCLIII-rd mug of beer.

"I see you brought a friend back from your trip?", asked Sister Victoria, pointing at Emu who was perched on Ben's shoulder. "His name is Emu. Very gre-". Before Ben could complete his reply, Thorn stomped his feet on the ground. "I can't help it. I need to burn something to cool off". Thorn said as looked at Venico who was nearly on his ~~1453rd~~ MCDLIII beer. "Ben, get a raid together, or else I swear to the Overseer I'll burn you and your friend instead". Ben and Emu looked at each other before Ben nodded and went off to make a raid in order for the Imp to cool off.

And so update arrived and off went the merry band of Assassins, on their horses, plus one Hawk, into the dark night. The Imp did what he did best. Burning region after region with no regard for anything else. Making the rest of the band have to keep a distance away else they mistakenly get burned by the Imp's cooling off technique. "Praise the Overseer! This is very therapeutic". Victoria smiled as the cool night breeze hit her face, meanwhile, Emu soared above the group, screeching "caw caw, caw caw" time and time again.

And they finally returned back to the sanctuary, each one, tired and weary, went back to their own soft bed to sleep. Emu decided to return back to his nest as well than stay the night, bidding goodbye to Ben before heading off in the direction of his home.
