The Brotherhood of Malice: The Embassy

Raid Report: Major, 9th January, 2024

Alex stepped into the Assassin's Blade, furrowing their brow at the noise leaking through the door. Their confusion was amplified even further as they stepped inside and were greeted by assassins tapping their glasses together, a racoon holding a glass of ale nearly as tall as the creature holding it, and a frazzled-looking bartender asking a dragon (Alex had to double-take on that one) not to smoke, much less burn things, indoors. Alex looked around until they spotted Royal, sporting a manic grin, an ornate, festive-looking hat with feathers, and a spiffy new robe. "What's with the ruckus? New Years was over a week ago, and we already celebrated Dagger Day. Did I forget someone's birthday?" Royal responded "why, Alex, haven't you heard? We've had quite a few assassins earn their daggers, and a few others - myself included - recently got promoted! Plenty of cause for celebration!" He began twirling one of his daggers around absently, clearly no longer focused on explaining. Alex nodded, thinking for a moment, then came to a conclusion. "Well, a party is fun and all, but I think I have my own idea on how to celebrate our new comrades-in-arms..."

Assassins are normally quiet and stealthy individuals. Tonight, however, they rioted through the streets of town after town, burning and looting with reckless abandon. But towards the end of the night, Alex, soaring above the group on the back of the dragon (who was having what some might consider entirely too much fun with the "burning" and "looting" parts of "burning and looting") spotted a garrison, moving towards the group unnoticed. As the partygoers regrouped, Alex stepped into a nearby shadow, slipping out of a dark corner of the hideout, and navigated to a chamber deep in the heart of the compound. There, they knocked, with baited breath, on the coffin lid of the Vampire King himself.

"I know you're trying to rest," Alex said, "but there's some blood that needs spilling."

Shortly after, Alex rejoined the group, with Valtarre looming beside them. Though there were only a handful of villages left to pillage, they would be damned if they let a little resistance stand in their way on their day of celebration.

In going to update the Brotherhood's World Factbook Entry for what has to be the fifth time in a few days, I admit I realized that we have a problem. Our region is simply too active, with so much rising talent, that it is becoming untenable to fit all the relevant news into such a short amount of space. So, let me summarize a few of our recent advancements here so that I can simply reference it.

Since the turn of the year, we've had five new Assassins complete their initiation to earn their cloaks and daggers: Revolution, Penny, Plague, Frenchy, and AC Alex. All of these new Assassins earned their ascension through a more rigorous training process than we've used in the past, and they've all worked very hard to earn their cards. I'm very excited to see what they continue to bring to the table.

We've also elected to recognize some of our more tenured Assassins, designating three with higher degrees of prestige in the Brotherhood. I will let Venico's words echo from our lair to yours:

First and foremost, Blume. A former Taskmaster, an ephemeral presence who has injected fun, merriment wherever she goes. Her personality has magnetized at certain points where she led the Malice Girl Scouts and brought cookies to those throughout NationStates. She has attended nearly every pile that Malice has led, come to quite a few Monday Night Raidings, always grateful for her presence. For all of this, I now introduce you to the newly promoted, Senior Assassin Blume.

Secondly, we have Royal, The Phantom Gambler. Another whose absence was missed while they were away. Their help has come along at some of Malice's high points from The Mystical Council to Alcatraz. Their blade has been dipped in defender blood as a Regional Officer on occupations and has been absolutely vital at plenty an update. A constant presence in the voice channels and always down to help train some initiates. I introduce you all to Senior Assassin Milo!

Last, but most certainly not least, the himbo himself, Sap. You will notice he is roled as an OG, for nearly a decade now he has been a part of our Brotherhood. When we revived in early 2022, he answered the call and came through. One of the few who can equal my energy in a voice chat, whose feats under our banner are plentiful. One thing that cannot be questioned is Sap's loyalty and willingness to pour his energy into whatever direction Malice is heading. Numerous Monday Night Raids would have been very different if not for him, and crucially for his case, you cannot tell the story of Malice without his mention. So without further ado, I bestow upon him the highest honor we have amongst Malice, Veteran Assassin Sap.

Let's give these folks a well deserved congratulations, and let me personally thank you three for your time and efforts.

In addition to all of this, as if this were not enough, our beloved Vleerian has decided to step in as Outside World Master, a slight re-theming of our historical "Outside World Manager" role that more effectively integrates with our other "Master" positions such as Taskmaster and Shadowmaster above them all. In this role, Vleerian will act as an intermediary between our leaders and the rest of the world when necessary, and will head our diplomatic corps with their Negotiation Technicians. Vleerian has proven themselves an effective diplomat in treaty drafting rooms, and I have full confidence in their continued dedication to our foreign affairs.

I'd like to thank not only those highlighted, but everyone in the Brotherhood for continuing every day to elevate our community above the rest, especially in the face of an increasingly militant opposition to our goals. 2024 is certainly looking to be an eventful year thanks to your contributions.

Raid Report: 1/12/24 Major

Royal sat silently on the windowsill, perusing the extensive target list he'd formulated earlier in the day.
"More clueless natives..." his voice trailed off as he stood, leaping from his window to the ground below, motioning to the sizable congregation of assassins and magi gathered below him.
"Another normal night for us, it seems," Royal lamented, wishing for something to break up the tagging monotony; Defenders just weren't cutting it anymore. Valtarre the Vampire King strode up to him abruptly, holding a small scroll in his hand.
"I have an extra target for you," The Vampire spoke. Taking the scroll from the Overseer's Left Hand, Royal unfurled it and raised his eyebrows at the name on the paper: The Amaranthine Isles.
"They've gotten lax," Valtarre continued. "and their delegate is in a precarious position." Royal hurriedly pulled a pen from his pocket and scribbled the name onto the target list, crossing out several other targets to make time for it.
"Then let's pay them a visit," Royal confirmed, stashing away the target list and palming his daggers.
"As long as no natural disasters happen, I'm sure the run will go perfectly."

Operation Hostile Takeover

The markets of MALICAQ are ever-changing. Stocks rise and plummet, corporations rise and fall. But one stood amidst the rest. The Prosperity Sphere, a fledgling company looking to rise through the ranks. But every organization is in need of a strong leader, and they are looking for one. Assassin Rudak, being the stock trader that he is, immediately took notice, and started preparing. He sat down at his desk, and began writing:

Rudak wrote:Esteemed Executive Board, I saw your posting for the currently open position for CEO, and I believe I’m the most capable candidate…

After Rudak finished writing, he submitted the letter, and waited. Not long after, a letter came in.

Executive Board wrote:Dear Rudak, we have evaluated your application, and we find you to be a fitting candidate for the future position of CEO. We await your response.

A fitting candidate? Does that mean competition? Of course it does. Rudak hid his dagger in his brand new smooth suit, and left for the Headquarters immediately.

“Welcome! I assume you are my competition?” asked Rudak’s competitor. “Indeed, how about we discuss the upcoming elections, in the backrooms?” The candidate followed Rudak, and before long, swishes and slashes could be faintly heard. Rudak repeated this for all the other candidates, and one by one, they all disappeared, and the ones that had any clue what was going had accidents.

Executive Board wrote:Due to several incidents last week concerning our loss of candidates for the position of CEO, we had no choice but to automatically appoint Rudak as the new CEO of Prosperity Inc.

Raid Report: 1/23/24 Minor

Royal stood on the eaves of the skyscraper, staring down at the pasta shop below him. Spotting the target, he turned to face the initiate sitting next to him.
"This guy slandered the Overseer's good name," Royal said, spitting off the edge of the skyscraper in disgust. "Now he pays."
Turning to look back at the target, he noticed a swarm of people around a tall building nearby. He recognized reporters from all over the world, all clamoring at the front doors, cameras rolling. Finally, he laid his eyes upon an unsecured door in the side of the building and cracked an evil grin. He turned to look at the initiate, blood bubbling with excitement.
"How do you feel about a little detour on the way back?"

It had been a long sleep, nearly 8 years, beneath the smouldering rubble. The world's corrective action against the crimes taken against it had been a punishing one, and the despoiler was certain there were many buried in the ashes of the riders' war camp that, less fortunately, did not survive. Alas, eight years clawing through scorching stone gives one time to think. And the perversions of nature the riders had wielded was certainly a transgression earning of the dues they'd been paid.

This was the determination Aurum Rider had reached, yet the lich was not content to permit the crimes of it's mentors bury it. While the body was trapped below the spirit roamed free, atoning for it's sins, and learning the ways of the new world that waited above. Just short of a decade, and the lich drew breath once again, pale green fire surging through the cavity lungs should occupy, and flaring from the sockets of a golden skull.

Alex had been digging, and it wasn't much surprise to Alex when, after a few hours, their shovel hit something that wasn't just dirt. The shadowy limbs of the overseer had reached out and blessed them with a vision. A vision of a cursed, shadowed land upon which no soul should ever transgress. They were to go, and dig, and so here they were. It was pretty crap work, but when the overseer comes knocking, one never knows the bigger picture.

However, finding a stone coffin wasn't quite what Alex was expecting. Usually, assassins put things into coffins. Well, they didn't do the part where they put the things into the coffins, they usually did the part where the thing being put into the coffin was put in such a state where a coffin was required. What was also unexpected, was when the lid started to move.

Pale green light spilled out, a howl unlike that which any creature of the earth could make filling the air. Alex took a step back, dropping the shovel and unsheathing their daggers. Surely this was a test from the Overseer, or some creature too dangerous to be left alone. The lid was shunted aside, and standing from the tomb was an armored, and skeletal being, adorned in beaten and tarnished gold.

"You needn't fear." The lich spoke. "Come, assassin, there is a region in need of pillaging." Alex was surely unnerved by this being, however raiding was surely a common language for them.

Alex's final surprise of this saga was being strapped into a roller coaster beside a lich.
