"Artistic Antics of an Art Curator & A Hamster" | Minor May

"Uncanny Efficency" and "Butt-propelled sunflower seeds"

"The Artistic Antics of an Art Curator & a Hamster"

In the godforsaken and desolate land of NationStates, where dullness and drabness often coalesced, an unlikely duo embarked on an extraordinary adventure. Ben, a quick-witted hamster with an insatiable love for sunflower seeds, and Vleerian, an eccentric art curator with a passion for spreading beauty far and wide.

One sunny morning, as Vleerian was busy looking at a peculiar array of tarot cards, he noticed Ben curiously nibbling on a paintbrush. The hamster's tiny paws danced with the strokes of an artist, leaving behind whimsical trails of vibrant colors on the canvas. It was a match made in creative chaos.

Eager to share their artistic vision, Ben and Vleerian hatched a plan to traverse the vast expanse of NationStates, leaving behind their unique masterpieces and an abundance of sunflower seeds.

Region after region fell to the duo's chaos of creativity and eccentricity. As Vleerian displayed his avant-garde collection, Ben, donning a miniature beret, tirelessly handed out chocolate-flavored sunflower seeds to the mesmerized onlookers, stealing a bite for himself in between.

As they ventured onward on their adventure, laughter echoed from whence they came from. Maybe it was because of the art, maybe the sunflower seeds were laced with something, or maybe they were charmed with a spell from the artworks the duo left. In any case, Ben and Vleerian would forever be remembered as the unruly heroes who painted the world of NationStates in shades of marvelous artwork and scattered the seeds, be it even for just a short time.

Thorn1000 surveying the damage that he had unvieled upon the lands

Imps were not known for their critical thinking skills nor philosophical inclinations. Granted, Thorn was not an ordinary imp. For one thing, he was as adept at technomancy as he was pyrokinesis, a trait that a lot of imps didn’t share. Advanced technology could be confusing. Thorn was also far faster than an ordinary imp, having been trained in the snow-covered skiing slopes of the land of flowers. Naturally, when thorn found out that his fellow assassins and hawk brothers had no plans for the multiversal trade fair, he ventured back to the land of flowers to one of his tutors, Sw33z3. There he spent a lot of time smuggling goods into the region and eventually securing the lands praise from God himself. Still, when one smuggled thousands of tons of goods across international lines, there’s plenty of time for thought. He spent time thinking about tutelage. Pondering on whether the student can ever surpass the master, since we can only pass on a fragment of what we ourselves know, or if the student is bound to surpass the master due to youth and better education.

Thorn himself had a lot of teachers and a lot of students, overseeing battleground training in the brotherhood. He thought back to the many headed wolf who first took him into the battlefield proper. Then to the vampire king and the unspeakables who taught him the art of battlefield command. Then to the centrist who taught him technomancy. Finally, he thought of the chariot, the fox, and the art curator who had taught him speed. These people had left massive footprints and shadows to step out of and he wasn’t sure he would or could ever leave those. Then he thought forward to the people whom he had taught. Many had faded to mere specters. Some had made a name for themselves, having struck even faster killing blows than he. He’d even taught the fastest being in existence the art of battlefield command before they went off to become a naval officer. The ocean wasn’t something Thorn enjoyed thinking about though.

Was it possible to surpass the teacher? These were the thoughts that raged through Thorn as he returned to his castle. Upon entering the premise, the Vampire King melted out of the shadows and scared the imp half to death. He brought news of the art curator. After having vanished a while ago, they were back, and Thorn was to take advantage of that in the battlefield. So, Thorn did. He decided to take one of his teachers in speed, as well as two of his students out to the battlefield for some high-speed fun (and to settle the question in his mind).

In the end, they eliminated 48 targets altogether. Thorn got the killing blow on 31 of them, the art curator secured the other 17. The art curator had provided them with uranium knives that left massive glowing craters after a big explosion when used on targets. Looking at the nuclear wasteland behind them when they were done Thorn mused to himself, perhaps the question isn’t whether you can surpass your instructors, nor if your students will surpass you, but maybe it is who you can become. That was something he could live with.

May 26 Major | An Unlikely Sunny Adventure

Postby BendyBen » Sat May 27, 2023 7:47 am

Science Fact: Sunflower seeds dont actually come from sunflowers, they come from its leaves

Sagas from the Sanctuary
"An Unlikely Sunny Adventure"

In the dimly lit chamber of the Sanctuary, a group of seasoned assassins gathered around a sturdy wooden table. The air was thick with anticipation as they planned their upcoming raid. Led by their lazy and mischievous imp, Thorn, they had a mission that would leave even the most skilled assassins scratching their heads in disbelief.

Their goal? To retrieve sunflower seeds for their brotherhood hamster, Ben. A daunting task, for the brotherhood hamster consumed buttloads of sunflower seeds. And not just typical sunflower seeds... it had to be either native-grown ones.

Thorn, slouched lazily on a tree branch, addressed his comrades with a mischievous grin. "Alright, listen up, you scoundrels!! I did not want to do this mission but seems it was either this or dishwashing duty". He grumbled under his breath before continuing.

"Seems that we have to raid the multiverse again. Ben's been feeding on our sunflower seed supply like crazy.

Thorn pointed at a door with a sign that read: "DO NOT DISTURB. HAMSTER GRUMPY". The hampster must have gotten stressed AF this last few weeks, Valtarre's ass heck knows why he is so stressed".

NPU, with a beer in hand, scratched his head in confusion."Sunflower seeds? I thought we were here to, you know, assassinate stuff. But hey, if it involves beer, I'm 50% in".

At the corner, Sleet, twirled her hair and laughed mischievously. "In all my most recent lifetimes, this has got to be the most peculiar quest so far". One of the nearby doors opened and out came Vleerian with a painting in hand. "I overheard something about sunflowers, don't tell me we were going to rebrand the server l-". Thorn cut him off. "Nope. Pride month theme it still is". Vleerian let out a sigh of relief.

"Um, guys? I'm not sure how assassinating people turned into a quest for hamster food". Falafel, glanced nervously at his comrades. "Although, I could do use a break from all the seriousness". Just as they were about to set off on their ridiculous journey, Qekitor came running upon their group, eager to join the mayhem."Ahoy there, me hearties!". Qek heartily exclaimed proudly...sometimes a bit too much. "I've just finished helping facilitate elections in The Wellspring, and now I'm ready for some wild adventures! Who needs a sailor's skills?"

Thorn, groaned at the sight of Qekitor.

With their crew now complete, the assassins set off on their hilarious quest. A black hawk soared over the group, Nota, the, ready to guide them through the absurdity that awaited.

From watching Thorn wrestling squirrels for sunflower seeds to NPU challenging a feisty scarecrow to beer chugging match, the assassins couldn't help but find themselves in the most bizarre scenarios.

Through it all, like a dysfunctional family, they continued on, knowing well that the brotherhood's hamster needed to be kept happy and well-fed. Soon enough, after pillaging several regions and plundering numerous native inventories, they finally returned to the Sanctuary, triumphantly dropping on Ben's cage a treasure trove of sunflower seeds, much to the hamster's delight.

In the end, it was not about the sunflower seeds or the tears of natives that brought them joy but that of the adventure. Everyone, except the natives, lived happily ever after....until their next quest of course.

Operation Snake Charmer

The hideout was usually quiet at that hour – normally, everyone was either asleep, running errands, or tending to contracts that needed closing. But, in one corridor, a series of snickers and giggles slipped out from underneath a door.

“Oh there is NO way this is gonna work” Alex said, hunched over a piece of parchment. “Check this one out:”
“I am Alex, a deposed World Assembly Delegate with billions of dubloons to my name. However, I have no access to this wealth of bullion, as the Bank of NationStates refuses to release my funds to someone without a title. If you would be so kind as to provide me with one, I would be forever in your debt and would am be glad to repay you tenfold.”
"I’m pretty sure I saw this in my spam filter once!”
They slid the parchment over to Ghazi for them to inspect. “Oh, it’s perfect! Why, I’m half-tempted to give you my collection of very shiny daggers down in the armory just from reading it!”

Alex rolled their eyes and took the letter back, then began folding it neatly. “Wait, you’re actually going to send that?” “Why not?” Alex replied, stamping the letter shut with a drop of candlewax. “Already written and all – worse case, it’ll be funny to read the reply.”

That was a month ago. Alex had all but forgotten it – assumed that the product of their joking around had been tossed in the recipients fireplace without so much as a second thought. As they glanced over their files, trying to remember what they needed to put in order before their next contract could come in, a knock came from their chamber door.
Alex went to open the doorway, and found it empty – when they turned back to their desk, they spotted a letter that hadn’t been there when they had gotten up. “Ah. Mail delivery.” Alex muttered, annoyed at having to have gotten up for what was surely junk advertising discount cloaks or somesuch. Nevertheless, they unfolded the letter… and immediately fell backwards out of their chair, guffawing with laughter. They flew out of the room and down the hall to go share the news, letter fluttering to the ground behind them. In precise print, the top of the page read:
“Dear Alex,
I have granted your unusual request and designated you as my rightful successor. By the time you receive this, I will have resigned from office, and you will hold the title of Governor of the Danzig Pacific.”

I believe this very well be the first recorded instance of someone being swindled out of the governor position via succession. If so, this is a really historic moment, and I'm proud of Alex for being at the center of it :)

When Alex first came to me and said “wouldn’t it be funny if I took a region without WA?” I had the thought “if anyone could pull that off it’s Alex”. Very proud of ya, Alex. Keep up the awesome work.

Also echoing Valt’s statement, I do believe this is the first time someone was able to use the succession system to swindle control of a region for malicious (pun fully intended) intent.

At this sunday major, a group of malicious assassins and an Osiran legionnaire decided to go sneaking around NationStates. After hiding in random places to avoid being noticed, and praising the overseer, they jumped into a region that didn't maintain a governor or sign a treaty, and took it over, without any defenders showing up. All of the residents were yeeted, and at monday minor, the region was successfully refounded, without anyone trying to move in to stop the refound.
