No, because that's roleplaying, which is discussed in one of the (numerous) roleplay forums. Not here.

Three papers!?

Really, NS, you shouldn't have.

For a news junkie like me, that is AWESOME!

ARTICLE XVI - SATURDAY 3RD NOVEMBER

This is something of a skin-and-bones article this week, as the Editor is away. Please bear with me. Please.

An Interview with Todd McCloud

As some of you are probably aware, plans are afoot for an NS World Fair to take place at some point later this year. Quinntopia conducted the following interview with Todd McCloud, co-creator of the event alongside Unibot III, to learn a bit more.

Q1: Was there any other inspiration for you and Unibot setting up the NS World Fair, apart from this year being the 10 year anniversary of NationStates?
A: There was for me. The East Pacific actually hosted a successful World's Fair in 2005. I've always wanted to attend one of those myself, as they looked pretty cool. Something where a multitude of regions can come together and share their own cultures, displaying at one moment the diverse collectivity that we call NationStates and some of the players therein.

Q2: Will you be planning to make the NS World Fair an annual event?
A: I don't think so. It would probably lose its luster if it happened once a year. I'd rather it be a bit special whenever one of these things happen, but that's just me.

Q3: Why do you think the response to the publication of the Fair has been so significant?
A: Probably because of its potential. Unibot especially has been working very hard lining up all these different speakers and various events taking place in forum-based auditoriums. He and Solm and others have been working hard, and I do believe they've been getting some fruits for their labor and will continue to do so. But I also believe NS in general is looking forward to such an event. A chance to connect, not only with each other, but with those who are echoes of the past, could be very attractive indeed.

Q4: Do expect an even larger response over the coming days and weeks?
A: I do.

Q5: What do you see happening to the Fair in the future?
A: In the future? I believe in a few years from now we'll see another one. The forums will be archived when the current fair is over, so I hope this fair is successful and can be used as an example for fairs to come.

Q6: Why is that?
A: Because NS is like that. We like to be connected and like to stay connected.

Both Quinntopia and I would like to thank Todd for his time.

Tag - Founderless Regions, You're It

I've not had long to get this written, and I've been away for some of this week, so I haven't seen much in Gameplay, but one event that did grab my attention was one of The Black Riders' relentless tag-raiding sessions at update, where this week they managed to hit no less than 38 regions in one update.

This is a record for the number of tag-raids completed in one update after the introduction of variance, and is only 3 regions away from the Riders' all-time record of 41 tagged regions, back in the pre-variance days. One thing that this does show is that the Riders have, for better or for worse, "cracked" variance to a significant extent, and the onus is now on the defenders to counter the Riders' recent successes.

Silly SC Proposal Of The Week

This week's recipient of the dubious honour of "Silly SC Proposal Of The Week" is "Condemn Mitt Romney", the final act in a faintly ridiculous and satirical saga beginning with "Condemn the 47 Percent" (which can be found in an earlier article of this news service). As the Mods have now firmly stamped on this chain of proposals, it seems fair to have Condemn Mitt Romney as this week's Silly Proposal, for its combination of weak satire and political campaigning.

The World Assembly Security Council,

OBSERVING that Mitt Romney was expelled from the World Assembly for committing voter fraud, including the illegal use of Money in politics,

APPALLED by Mitt Romney's miniscule tax rate of just 12%,

OUTRAGED by the lies and mischaracterizations which Mitt Romney has spread about The 47 percent-,

AWARE that Mitt Romney's government type was formerly "Corporate Bordello," despite the fact that it is now styled as an "Inoffensive Centrist Democracy,"

DEMANDING that Mitt Romney be held accountable for past behavior,

HEREBY condemns Mitt Romney

Yours sincerely,

Don't be deceived when our Revolution has finally been stamped out and they tell you things are better now even if there's no poverty to see, because the poverty's been hidden...even if you ever got more wages and could afford to buy more of these new and useless goods which these new industries foist on you, and even if it seems to you that "you never had so much" - that is only the slogan of those who have much more than you.

Delegate switch slip-up in the North Pacific

I received word from the NS World that there was trouble with a Delegate switch in the North Pacific. Though information is scarce at the moment, I have TG'd a member of the North Pacific to see if they can tell me more. This shall be edited into the article as soon as I get it. Then I'll be able to provide a more factual, in-depth coverage of the incident.

I don't in any way speak for the government of The North Pacific, but I can basically describe what's happened so far in an unofficial capacity.

Earlier in the week Eluvatar (Zemnaya Svoboda), the Delegate of The North Pacific, was recalled by the Regional Assembly for over two weeks of complete absence. It was felt by 2/3 of the Regional Assembly members who voted in favor of the recall that Eluvatar's absence constituted too great a security threat and too great a risk to regional activity to allow his Delegacy to continue in his absence. Following Eluvatar's recall and in accordance with TNP's Constitution, the Vice Delegate (Tim) became interim Delegate and in line with TNP's Legal Code a special election for Delegate was immediately called.

Unfortunately, someone has decided to exploit the confusion surrounding the recall to conduct a libelous un-endorsement campaign against the interim Delegate, Tim -- which has made it difficult for him to secure the Delegacy and has prolonged the transition. We are turning the corner though; Former English Colony, a member of TNP's Security Council, secured the Delegacy at major update and changed the World Factbook Entry asking nations to endorse Tim and linking to a post on TNP's forum that explains the situation. That post is available here. Now that we're cutting through the confusion it should only be a matter of a couple of updates or so before the interim Delegate is, well, actually Delegate. :P Meanwhile, the special election is moving ahead on schedule and it won't be long before TNP has a newly elected Delegate.

Basically, what nations of The North Pacific should know is the following:

1) There's no cause for alarm and everything is being handled quite well by the government. Tim is the legitimate interim Delegate and everything is on the up and up, contrary to the lies being spread by the un-endorsement campaign.

2) WA nations in The North Pacific should un-endorse Zemnaya Svoboda and endorse Tim as soon as possible, if they haven't already.

3) IMO, everyone in TNP should try to be at least registered and semi-frequently involved on our offsite forum (here) if for no other reason than to find quick answers to their questions in these types of situations. Aside from that, being involved on the region's forum and IRC are a lot of fun.

Thanks to NS Weekly for covering this, and I hope this information is helpful to you and interested readers. :)
