The NationStates World

NationStates. Where you can find people and nations of every ideology, creed, and belief system. Where you can find dark horsemen, bow and arrow-wielding merrymen, and a supra-national organization employing gnomes. Where lions, sheep, and hawks are displayed on national flags.

The NationStates World is a news service which will report on events from around the NationStates universe. News topics may include raiding and defending, World Assembly resolutions and other events, and other notable gameplay events.

Also included in this news service, though, will be interviews with the actual players behind NationStates. Whether it be a raider, defender, WA delegate, role-player, or other notable NS players, I hope our readers and viewers can learn something of the history and personalities that NS is composed of.

Hopefully, this service can provide weekly updates and reports, but expect stories and interviews at any time, whenever they are warranted.

Note: If you would like to see a story or interview in The NS World, please TG this nation with your suggestions. If you see a factual error or omission, please do not hesitate to send me a TG either.

Note 2: The player behind this news service is a former member of the UDL, and one who participated in one mission. This service will strive to be unbiased, though. If you believe there has been bias in one of the reports, please TG me, and I will address the issue.

Thank you very much for reading The NationStates World!

RAID TAKES DEFENDER BASE, BUT FOR LESS THAN AN UPDATE

A symbolic blow was struck against the Founderless Regions Alliance when its home region, The FRA, was invaded by raider forces from The Black Riders, The Black Hawks, and Unknown at Sunday's minor update. The raid was made possible by FRA's founder, FRA Ranger, ceasing to exist at Sunday's major update.

The new delegate, Fishlord342, ejected and banned a defender puppet DA YOO DEE ELL from the region, began closing the region's embassies, and changed the WFE to display links to the three raider groups that participated in the raid.

A screenshot was taken and displayed in TBR's news thread:

Image

The raiders were repelled though, when FRA Ranger was refounded, just hours later. The founder returned and rid the region of the raiders, cancelled the closure of embassies, and replaced the WFE with its original form, less than 4 hours after the raiders had arrived.

According to TBR's news thread, the raid was planned to celebrate TBR Feuer Ritter's promotion to Colonel.

CAPITALIST PARADISE REMAINS OCCUPIED

The region of Capitalist Paradise remains occupied by united raider forces, with raider delegate FantasticRay celebrating 9 days in charge at the major update on Monday.

Any possible liberation attempts by defenders have been put on hold because of FantasticRay's decision to password the region. Any liberation attempts will almost surely have to come after the passage of a Security Council resolution to liberate the region. A resolution is currently in the proposal stage, but as this issue goes to press, it is lacking the necessary approvals.

The raid, which occurred after FantasticRay, who was in the region as a sleeper to collect endorsements and influence, was joined by a total of 23 updaters from various raiding groups, according to this news thread on the invasion. The Black Hawks, The Black Riders, Unknown, The New Inquisition, DEN Central Command, One Big Island , Europeia, and The Land of Kings and Emperors all participated in the raid.

The former delegate, Ad Vitam Adsum, had served for 303 days.

UPDATE: The raider delegate, FantasticRay, has left the region hours after Monday's major update marked 9 days in power for FantasticRay, with The Black Hawks declaring a victory after successfully banjecting 68 nations. The reasoning for TBH's decision to withdraw is currently being speculated about, with some natives and defenders hypothesizing on the CP RMB that it was because of FantasticRay's falling influence levels.

NS WORLD EXCLUSIVE: INTERVIEW WITH SOCIALIST ECUADOR

The Black Riders Major sits down with The NS World to discuss both his personal experiences with raiding, and his opinion on the state of gameplay as a whole

Question: Socialist Ecuador, how long have you been on NS? How long have you been raiding?
Answer: I have been on NS, with one main or another, since around 2004. I started using this nation around two years ago. I started raiding only recently, signing up for TBR on November 3rd, 2011.

Q: What raiding organization(s) are you a member of? What is your rank?
A: As my pre-title might indicate, I am a Major in The Black Riders.

Q: What do you enjoy most about raiding?
A: That's a pretty tough question, actually. While I enjoy planning my raids and executing them almost as much, I'd have to say my favorite part of raiding is the people I get to do it with. Feuer, Lyna, Gest, NA, and that dirty Aussie Tim are all great people I've had the pleasure of raiding with, as well as countless others I won't name.

Q: Do you have a favorite raid, or one which you remember the most?
A: My favorite raid was probably the most recent tag raid I was a part of, where we attempted to hit 32 regions in one update. Everything was moving very quickly, and we pulled it together well at the end. We ended up hitting 26 regions, just two shy of The Black Hawk's record of 28.

Q: What is your opinion of defenders, in general?
A: Eh, some of the fendas seem cool enough. As long as they're mellow enough not to go into full preacher mode every time they see a raider, they're fine. Raiding would be a hell of a lot more boring without them.

Q: Now, you have addressed some recent proposals to change the game. Do you endorse any changes to the gameplay system?
A: The state of the Gameplay is strong. Defenders have made a couple of good liberations in this past month, though they haven't been spotting as much as usual. Raiders have made a ton of tag raids, as well as making a huge raid in Capitalist Paradise. There is a worrying new trend this week of defenders proposing game changes to make their job easier, even going as far as to attempt to completely gut the practice of holding a region.

Q: Now, you have addressed some recent proposals to change the game. Do you endorse any changes to the gameplay system?
A: I can't really think of any changes to Gameplay that I would like. That's not to say I am completely against change, though. I just don't have any ideas right now.

Q: Do you have anything else you'd like to say?
A: No, that will be all. Good luck on your newspaper!

The NationStates World would like to thank Socialist Ecuador for his time.

How about interviewing one of the defenders. Or putting up a poll on how players regard raiders and showing the findings here. Another cool thing you could do is to speak more of the "proposed changes" suggested by defenders, what are they and what do they aim to do?

All in all not bad though

Well, I hope everyone knows that this was the first issue. I'd be happy to interview any defender that wouldn't mind.

And I do regret not going into more detail on the changes. But next issue, if they're still floating around, I will highlight them.

Thanks for your support. I appreciate it.

I was going to do a news thread but with one dumb blow I deleted my entire inbox, even though they were saved. I can say that Unibot II was rather quick, although I didn't expect him to respond and he's retired Grub responded in two to three days.

You do realize that the FRA raid was a joke, right? And a funny one at that. Not even LKE would consider that a 'symbolic blow'.

Personally, my understanding of that phrase would suggest that it means that the blow was more of a casual, or "joke" raid, then a real region-destroying raid. That is why I put symbolic. It was more of a symbol of raiders taking one defender group's home base then a real strike against defenders.

Well, TBR's news thread didn't suggest that, but I suppose that is a biased source.

It was symbolic in the sense that it was utterly meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Just like someone is a symbolic ruler, or has symbolic power.
Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

For these, I looked at the organization's news threads, which are biased, but give some facts. I also looked at the region pages and their history pages, which show the skeleton facts.
