Am I correct in saying that ex populo potentia means "people power?" Is this grammatically accurate in Latin? And could someone provide the Latin for "from the people, power" or "from the people come power"

Current motto is "Scientia Est Quantivis Pretii" which I take to mean "Knowledge is worth any price." Is this correct?

I've been trying to find a translation for the phrase "Knowledge at any cost" but nothing seems to fit quite right. Any suggestions?

Looks alright to me. :)

I was taught that ē (rather than ex) is the typical form when placed before a consonant, but that's more of a stylistic choice than a true grammatical issue.

What about:

All in All

or

We are all infinitesimal points on an endless fractal

Since I don't know if latin has a word for fractal:

We are all small parts of a greater whole

Latin student here. If any fellow Latin speakers want to check the accuracy of a phrase, I recommend using this website: William Whitaker's Words. It displays the case, tense, gender, number, etc, of a Latin word.

It's late and I'm in no shape to be doing more Latin after having just done a lot of it today, but nos omnes partes minores sumus universitatis maioris would be my guess (literally: We all are smaller parts of a larger whole). Which is about the same as yours, except that yours is 3rd person plural, which is not correct, and I think universitas is a better, or at least more Ciceronian, word.

What about something compressed, like this:

parvae nos partes maioris orbis

I think minores works better than parvae because it emphasized the contrast, and orbis is certainly not the right word at all, but otherwise, that would work. Pithy sentiments drop sum all the time.

I could always argue that sunt agrees with partes :P

I suppose, but that's a bit awkward.

Sadly, Latin is slipping away from me, since it's no longer on my curriculum. I still hope to help out around here, though, as much as I can.

First of all, can we get a more conventional description of what the motto actually attempts to convey?

Conventional description?

I don't think I can give you one of those...

I mean I put the herp before the derp because herp contains 'her' and derp is the internet slang for the thing when you do something silly with your eyes.

I think, given that the phrase isn't really standard English either, we can commit a bit of sin in our Latin here and go with Pro Herpo, Derpo, which would actually be For Herp I Derp, but that sounds a bit better.

That said, for nonsense words, the language you really want is Ancient Greek (the language of Aristophanes); mine is a bit rusty, but I'd suggest διὰ τὸν Ἥρπον δήρπομεν, which transliterates to dia ton Hērpon dērpomen.

EDIT: Fixed the accents on the Greek, I think.

Awesome! I'd recommend continuing to watch this thread; much as I have the authority in Latin to correct Themiclesia, he has the authority in Greek to correct me and so I'd watch to see if he disagrees with my grammar.
