And now I have a question.
Would the term "merdulus" be an effective way of saying someone was a "little shit"?

It's actually not for a motto - this is just the only place I know to ask that question. Spring break just started, so I can't ask my teacher for a week and a half.

Oh, no, I could. He's a pretty cool teacher about that sort of thing.

Oh, no, I could. He's a pretty cool teacher about that sort of thing.

Have you checked out the Latin_profanity page on Wikipedia? I don't know much about the diminutive in Latin, but knowing my Dutch and German diminutives, I'd say it's probably correct.

merda is feminine, so it'd be merdula. But yes, I don't know if that's idiomatically proper.

I wouldn't be too sure about that logic. In Dutch and German all diminutives are all neuter (which has led to some dialects of German dropping the feminine altogether). I don't know though. All I know about Latin diminutives is that they exist.

Latin diminutives retain the gender of their base word. I know this affirmatively and positively--it's not just something I inferred.

I think "In Perpetuum Res Novae" means "Forever, ongoing, perpetually a Revolution, while "In Aeternum Res Novae" means more like "Forever, everlasting, eternally a Revolution. Whichever sounds better, but they both mean forever.

I may be wrong, but I think that "revolutio" refers specifically to something (e.g. a wheel) turning, and that a revolution as in "political change" would be "res novae".

I think you're right. I had searched earlier in this thread for "revolution" and found "revolutio" in reference to something about soldiers and fighting, but after checking a desk dictionary it looks like res novae. Thanks!

My Latin is minimal, having only studied it for one year in high school, so can someone tell me if my translation of "By the Kingdom is our Pride" is correct?

“Per Regnum est Superbia”
No, we are not Goth as is the fashion style. We are Goths as in the Germanic Peoples who established kingdoms in Spain, Italy, and the Balkans.

I'm really not sure what "By the Kingdom is our pride" means in English. Could you elaborate on the sense you're trying to convey?

I'd use praeterquam.

Some others call it Spanish, or French, or Portuguese, or Romanian, or Catalan, or Monegasque, or Walloon, or Moldavian, Or Quebecois, or Romansh, or Occitan... I could go on for a while. None of those languages come close to the real thing though.

Anyways here's your translation:

I'm just curious if "Ainsi sera, groigne qui groigne" is properly translated as: "Grumble all you like, this is how it’s going to be". I quite like it and have debated using it, for the Anne Boleyn reference, as my motto..just want to make sure the translation is correct. :P
