The Laz megathread broke usual protocol - and I criticized it then as unintentionally biased towards the coup’s incumbents; that decision, along with the telegram moratorium and modern “tweaks” to Regional Influence (decay / CTE cancellation) had a serious effect of suffocating the liberation effort by throttling media, tarting, and strategic recourse to the sitting delegate’s advantage. Since Francos Spain if not earlier, the outcomes of coups have been shaped first and foremost by the contradicting improvisation of site admin and moderators.

I would shrewdly argue that the Devonitians coup was probably the most impactful coup. It set in motion the creation of the UDL, the Empire's control over Osiris, the modernization of the South Pacific and the Rejected Realms, and consequently was responsible for the Cold War and reshaping Lazarus and the North Pacific. Virtually everything in Gameplay that followed from the Devonitians coup can be traced back to it. Not only would today's Gameplay look completely different without Devonitians, I'm not sure it would even exist. Gameplay had been a much quieter place prior to 2011, people were writing it off by 2009.

Devonitians is more influential to today's Gameplay than the August Revolution. Much of the August Revolution had already burned away by the time I joined the game. The first "Uni" CTE'd in NS, the same month I joined. The Great War was more folklore than a tangible point in gameplay's evolution by 2011 because of the successive drought of players and activity it had suffered over the Great Decline.

The Gatesville coup of Osiris was pretty wild, to be honest. Almost every active corner of gameplay got involved in some way, and they all wound up mad at each other over how it was handled.
