It was refounded, apparently without issue given the lack of anyone ever mentioning it that I can recall.

Per the compiled history of course, it sounds like TBH wasn’t technically alive at the time when RedBack refounded it.

There’s some detail on the TBH history factbook, I doubt you’re going to get more than that

I was digging around in Wayback Archives and found a few things that piqued my interest...

Testlandia

Seen here is Testlandia in its earliest known capture (May 02, 2003)...

https://web.archive.org/web/20030502163 ... testlandia

Their population of 185 million suggests that Testlandia was founded on roughly March 25, 2003 (I figured between Mar 23-27).

What I don't know is what the significance of the March 25th date was...

Could the site admin have been testing something? It's just a tad bit late for TNP's creation, and a tad bit early for TWP (I think). It's about a month before ejection tools and nation resurrection were unveiled.

April 30 2003: Testlandia departed Cult of Parratoga for The Pacific
https://web.archive.org/web/20030502084 ... _parratoga

Early TNP webpages

I also found these things... which are kind of cool. Early TNP websites (circa 2003-2004):

https://web.archive.org/web/20030917024 ... index.html
https://web.archive.org/web/20040918074 ... spage.html

I learned this after reading the Wikipedia page on NS, but I didn't know that trading cards were such a new thing for NS. Albeit, in today's terms, it's a little old now.

My actual question though is regarding fascist nations. One of the first nations I created was essentially a resurrection of the Third Reich in the 21st Century. I made one post on the regional message board of one of the Pacific regions and got ejected almost instantly. Before I got ejected though, one guy in the region had warned me about playing as a fascist nation, but he didn't delve into why that was inadvisable.

So what is the history of fascist/Nazi nations on NationStates?

That's easy. The NationStates community decided it would no longer allow fascists and nazis to be part of it. For the latter, NationStates Administration made it official.

I'm looking to find the names of the biggest regions and how they have changed over time - however there's a big gap in my data between 2003 and 2012, and I'm not really sure where to start looking. I can't seem to find the right URL to get it on the Wayback Machine and that might only show the first ten anyway. Where could I find region lists from this period?

That's it? Has there ever been any big IC conflicts that have occurred in the past or did NS moderation just decide to ban these sorts of nation (I say this not to discredit the reasons they had for banning these nations)

Well, in the first...I wanna say six years(?) nazi regions were more participatory with the wider community, but players still didn't like it. If I'm not mistaken (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong,) they were actually active in R/D (military gameplay) They've been comparatively tame since then, and as time went on, the community took more and more active steps to fight them (NationStates has an ANTIFA R/D military.) Slowly but surely, nazi regions have been stamped out over time by players. Ultimately, this ended up with Max Barry (the awesome dude that owns this site) and [violet] (the website's administrator) deciding to finally put their foot down on nazis in an official capacity, resulting in the deletion of many regions and nations, as well as banning the use of the word "nazi" in nation & region names, plus a more watchful eye on discerning nazi nations and regions through the customizations and conversations they have.

As for fascist nations and regions, they are allowed, but the overwhelming majority of players adamantly disapprove of them. This of course doesn't mean you'll be an outcast for having a nation that is a dictatorship. Mine's a dictatorship (although "Father Knows Best State" would be a more accurate description.) After all, check out the definition of the word "fascism." That's a really good way to determine where the line is drawn.

I never really considered looking into the history of it before (although I have heard and misremembered bits and pieces over the years) but I must say, that's a damn fine record of it. I didn't expect it to be an interesting read, but I'm quite content with being proven wrong. ^_^

You may find this census helpful, btw:

I understand what the ideology is and what it means, but there are a handful of differences in how it was practiced between each country. Brazilian Integralism is basically a fascist ideology, but it wasn't historically racist. There was an anti-Semitic faction within the movement, but there was such a pushback from the leader of the Integralist Movement that it almost caused the Integralist political party to dissolve.

The Integralists believe that all races of people should unite under one national flag led by an authoritarian government guided by Catholic doctrine.

Presumably this isn't really something that crosses the line, no?

I wouldn't go trying to nitpick about it. It's one of those things where the exception isn't nearly enough to validate the ideology. :-/

Hello all. I have not posted on these forums since 2013.

I have recently done some reorganisation of deep, ancient backups, and discovered some things from that era (and before) that may interest people here, especially those involved in the Future Tech roleplaying community circa 2004-2010ish.

Some preamble and history, since it's now 2021 and Nationstates has changed a lot since I was an active participant:

  • My original nation name was The Mindset. The oldest archive of this on Wayback Machine is circa 26th March 2009, however I believe my original nation was founded sometime in 2004.
  • Under the guise of this nation, I founded the Extra-Solar Union of Systems (ESUS) future tech alliance. The original founding post is lost to the mists of time on the jolt forums, but I have restored an archive of the forums circa October 2010 from an old backup. These forums were previously private, and required a roleplaying test for admittance. At its peak around 2009, the ESUS had around 40-50 active members and was by far the largest active future tech alliance at the time, and perhaps since? (I believe). Sadly, I have not been able to find a backup of the ESUS wiki, which contained a lot of information and worldbuilding.
  • I created the Nationstates Galaxy Map application around this time, which drove recruitment to the ESUS. I have found the code for this too, but it's godawful, and I don't have a database backup.
  • I maintained a second nation, specifically for posting in the General forum, under the username Getbrett during this time. The Mindset was my 'future tech' roleplay nation, whereas 'Getbrett' was designed to be a 'American Psycho' style sociopath, and I roleplayed as such within the General forum (perhaps too well) - and this nation, and my main one The Mindset, were deleted by moderators circa July 2010. For this I was declared delete on sight. Honestly, I was a pest and a shit, so this was deserved.
  • On March 2011 a friend from an offsite forum called UMP posted what amounted to a suicide note on Nationstates. Although I was DOS, I created a new nation, Getbrett2, to attempt to reach him, and for this I was given temporary leniency from the mods re: my delete on sight status.
  • This nation was created circa 2011 and recently restored after I discovered the aforementioned backups above, and I decided this may be interesting to others from around that time, so I reactivated the account to post this.
