Yeah, I mean, to be fair I tend to use shit like EasyBib for 99.9% of my citation purposes so I really don't give much care about what method it is. In reality, I do also prefer Chicago over most :P

My experience in college / graduate school was that professors cared that you gave credit to the source and enough information to find it, but were not all that concerned with if that information was formatted exactly how the guide book said it should.

Besides, nowadays you wouldn't even notice the individual type if you are no longer doing them yourself. There are citation machines online and even on Word that will do them for you. The only issue with that is if you have to use a citation method such as AAA (used in Anthropology) that is a bit less used (Word for me does not do this type of citation). But even that apparently has an online generator that will do it for you.

Personally I use Chicago the most, for the history side of my degree.

I was going to just lurk, but ^ made me actually post :P You certainly picked an odd time to talk about the distinctions between AAA and CMOS :P

Mostly agreed here (theses/publications aside) we could get away with almost any style, as long as we didn't switch halfway through a paper :P

Well, now that the man has shut us down from discussing citations in our open discussion thread :(

What's everyone choosing to raid and/or defend over the holidays? Myself, I've got a nice Christmas Ham I'll be raiding in a few days time.

I spent a few days up in Chicago at a conference, but I'll be home for Christmas and then flying to be with my fiancee for New Years.

Originally it was a place to discuss anything, kind of like NSG has TET, but Mall or Sedge decided it had to be about gameplay. Which is bullshit, but whatever, mods know what's beat.

NSG is a general discussion forum. It makes sense that in their chat thread you can talk about (nearly) anything. The Gameplay forum has an entirely different purpose. The thread was originally set up without consultation by a now-former mod with minimal understanding of gameplay, accompanied by a whole host of ridiculous rules. It lasted less than a week in that form, before being modified into what it has been since - a thread for chat on gameplay matters that would be off-topic elsewhere, and which don't justify a thread of their own.

If you want to chat about non-gameplay stuff, use one of the other forums, or IRC/Skype. The Gameplay forum is for discussion of gameplay, not "whatever gameplayers want to talk about".

I know that there's a thread in Tech about the "problems with ROs" (from the defender perspective, I largely gather), but I'm curious to hear more about what you guys are seeing and how you're using ROs in R/D. (Provided sharing that info won't break any classified details, etc.) If it's not about fixing things or a problem, it probably doesn't belong in the Tech thread, but I figured it might fit here.

I'm not 100% what you're asking here :P

How've we used them?

As extra points :P
They're useful for a few extra ejections, sure, but also for showing members how things work on that side. In the past, if we had a member we thought was nearing the level of responsibility to be a point, we simply had to thrust it all on them at some point, probably on a smaller operation, and have a much higher chance of the occupation being libbed (with no offense intended, they're just less experienced). In addition, we had to put more consideration into ejection speed vs. updates online - sometimes the fasted ejector isn't always on the most. With RO's, we can compromise - still picking a primary point, but allowing less experienced members a chance to be more involved, along with make sure an experienced point is on almost every update (with less IRL stress about making update for the point, and no more sharing point nations). Overall, better for involvement and stress. Ejection wise, again, it's not a huge improvement on speeds - about twice, at best, regardless of the number - but it useful for showing the chaos of update to those less experienced members, as well as giving them a role they can feel more useful than a piler in - even if it's just "close all the embassies," it's a taste. Eyeballing it, I think our private retention numbers have been better since this policy has come into effect.

Further, they're useful for sharing duties post-op like closing embassies

In terms of tags, they've singlehandedly saved post-update tagging - with the instant delegate dismal on resignation, no RO's would mean tagging then and there, and a much slower page. With RO's, the point can appoint an RO and move on, only slightly slowing the old tag speed.

We also use them like any other region would - RO's in the home region to suppress posts, pin dispatches, update orders in the WFE, etc. In TBH, council members all have RO roles and perm sets depending on their council role.

There are further plans for usage, that haven't had time for full implementation yet - including, but not limited to, the obvious - infiltrating and being awarded an RO position. A bit easier than infiltrating to the point of earning a delegate position, but potentially just as useful.

ROs are currently the best way to fight it out against the insta-lose delegate stuff. Otherwise you would have to tag on spot, which slows down the process somewhat. Probably the only thing I really use them for.

Now, I know plenty of you guys might not know much about Tennessee (the state I call home), but it's a place full of a sophisticated and unsophisticated rednecks, and all of us have decorated for Christmas. There's some serious light displays around the neighborhood.

But today, two days before Christmas, nature has decided over the next several hours and into the night that we and the statesmen that border us deserve to be pummeled by dozens of tornadoes.

Keep us in your prayers and send us your best wishes, please. This is serious.
