The operation of it using dispatches etc is somewhat clever. Rach and Misley had a nice discussion about it, amongst the embers of the Red and Black thread. viewtopic.php?p=23339303#p23339303

How to successfully keep an increasingly growing community onsite is unique. Many regions start small, get bigger and feel they have to go the offsite to keep things organised. TI has offered us a blueprint on how to do it on-site.

Though whether TI's success is because it's leftist, run by knowledgeable players and would attract activity anyway could be debated. Even Peacezone Theory could be "successful" attracting people when it's on a region with a recognizable name like 'Eastern Europe', leftist themed and had my level of activity running the show.

Anyway, this thread should be used more. It is more interesting than most of the ones on the first page. So anyway, dunno why everyone seems to dislike MSN. I liked it much better than stupid Skype. But even Skype is better than IRC. :P

Skype is good for opsec, and works for the tight raider community. Making an account automatically weeds out most undedicated newbies. It works for us. But I can see how irc works for the other side- massive libs require a lot more updates, and help is asked for from a much larger base. It's easier to share "go to #jump" over a telegram or whatever than it to get random people into a Skype chat. You also have the easy ability to silence folks there, which I hear is more of a problem. For the most part, we say quiet, people shut up. Not always the same, I hear, in irc groups.

Another note with Skype is that we can have it open in one tab, have a browser in the other, and keep it open while we open links. With irc, you lost the chat if you click a hyperlink. Which is less of an issue if you're chasing others or hitting one, pre-announced target that you have planty of time to put in a second window if you want, compared to a tag run

Only an issue for people who use mibbit/something web-based. Most defenders eventually move on to a real client

Plus even if you use a real client as a Defender you will have the target open in another tab. So if I was ever using a web client I would hover my mouse over the move to button, learned the keybind to shift tabs in chrome and then would use that and immediately click.

Skype really wouldn't work for defenders except the tightest of missions, plus I think it'd be kind of a buggy system to use for spotting; I like everything clean and "visually straight-forward" when I spot. Mirc is a light program that operates under the worst net connections; Skype is far less reliable and uses a lot more digital memory resources.

I have to say, in big chats (big as in lots of messages) Skype can get a little laggy, which might be critical for missions.

Oh god I remember. I actually don't remember if we even hit the target after that mess.

Skype is indeed notoriously iffy, but still preferable to IRC I think. Though the new version of Skype is incredibly irritating. Why did they have to make smileys larger? What purpose did that serve aside from making them obnoxious and annoying to look at?
