That's not a reason for switching. That's a reason for starting your own group

Please, spare me. I can speak for myself thank you very much. I befriended Rawr and Tramiar, decided I wanted to give raiding a try, and then switched. Never did they actively try and cause me to switch, nor have they ceased being my friends now that I am on their side. I genuinely enjoy talking to them and raiding.
Well your first supposition is just wrong. Raiding is not, objectively speaking "more fun" for everyone. I know people who have tried both and prefer defending. I simply disagree. As for the friendly aspect that isn't true. I'm a raider. I raid regions. Ebil.
Again that's not what happened, you guys didn't even know I was switching until it happened, so clearly there was no friction there.
Burnt out? Ask anyone on the raiding side, I constantly brag about how good of a spotter I am.

<@Eluvatar> Why is SkyDip such a purist raiderist
<+frattastan> Because his region was never raided.
<+maxbarry> EarthAway: I guess I might dabble in raiding just to experience it better, but I would not like to raid regions of natives, so I'd probably be more interested in defense and liberations

If you had known they were trying to get you to switch it would not work and if they ceased being your friend, it would not work.

I'm not saying it is "more fun", I'm saying all Bri or Rawr had to was subtly hint it would be more fun for you.
Unibot II wrote:Again that's not what happened, you guys didn't even know I was switching until it happened, so clearly there was no friction there.
The friction came afterwards; there was no way for any UDLer to convince you to return, the way switching-psychology works is you're pushed away by such pleas by genuine friends.
Unibot II wrote:Burnt out? Ask anyone on the raiding side, I constantly brag about how good of a spotter I am.
Great spotters get burnt out. Raiding is a break compared to defending.

I don't see you giving the lovey-dovey join-the-family treatment to a lot of our non-updaters. Just because they chose to switch doesn't mean they were not manipulated into joining.
The tactics of making people switch from defending to raiding is pretty simple: 1) You convince them that raiding is the more "fun" and "friendly" side by subtly hinting, 2) You have to push away the subject's defender friends by noting that if defender-friends try to convince them to stay defending they don't care about what's best for them ... so you can use the traction between defenders against itself so the harder friends try to convince one another to stay together in the group... the more they're pushed away, 3) you target major updaters because they're well trained and do the bulk of the work (or in Spartz's case, he was a triggerman) but they are also burnt-out a little... you have to subtly hint that its their break from spotting and work.

Still feeling pretty fresh over here. Never got burnt out.

You're a friend.. why wouldn't they message you? It's not so simple as full deception, I'm sure they like you genuinely -- but you being an updater influenced their decision to befriend you. I recall the first night that you spotted with me on Jul 23 2011 Maj, Bri made a comment to IRC, asking who was that and asked enough questions to raise my suspicions, but I hadn't really thought that much of it at the time. She probably already had you scouted out.

Geez Uni, stop making Tramiar seem like she or anyone else has a plan to screw you over. You're not the center of the universe. Me on the other hand make that one of my prime jobsSwitching-psychology once again, cognitively you're likely to view your choice has being the right one and view your past as "less fun".

It's called choice-supportive bias

Major reason was the traction fallacy, especially in Spartz's case -- the more we'd try to convince you, the more you're pushed away.

I didn't say I wasn't burning out, I said every great defender burns out -- it's the second paragraph of The Pledge of Scarlet.

You know one time I approached Going Postal about joining his region, TGC to the FRA (without knowing who Going Postal was or how raider-ish his region was) -- just because I went to him doesn't mean he wasn't happy to capitalize on the opportunity.
