E-News Network - "Europeia's Call Yields Landslide"
Written by HEM Tiberius
E-News Network - 88th Edition

The brief but brilliant dogfight for the Europeian Presidency ended Wednesday morning with the election of President Rachel Anumia. In an election filled with excitement the voters turned out in record numbers, shattering records made in the recent year -- despite pessimistic activity statistics. The election contained much drama, including controversy over candidate Henry's short platform and the region's comprehensive debate. For the first time since the summer election two years ago, the debate was graded and scored by political professionals in Europeia around the world.

After the results were in, they bore poorly for all candidates. Comments by the political gurus included, "The numbers will give you a winner, but I think this debate really only has a loser: the Europeian people. Demand more from your candidates." and, "I think only one person really came out of this debate looking Presidential, and that's Lexus. Rachel comes out looking like a Carebear, and Henry comes out looking like that kid who showed up to all his exams stoned out of his head."

In the long run though, the voters on Tuesday did not take the results of the debate into high consideration as they voted. While Pope Lexus garnered 65.3% of all points possible -- which was nearly double either of the other two candidates -- the voters judged him harshly on election day, giving him 12 votes, or only 28% of the total vote. The Henry/McEntire ticket gained only two votes, while the Rachel/Apserta ticket carried a massive 29 votes.

"It's a testament to the faith in Rachel Anumia," an unnamed appointee said. "Clearly, the voters realized that it's action that counts -- not words -- and that's why Rachel Anumia prevailed at the ballot box and the semi-retired Pope Lexus X did not."

A campaign staffer to Pope Lexus X disagrees, "It was clear every step of the election who was the most capable candidate. A President of five terms, Pope Lexus has the preparation to lead. He just didn't have the exposure in order to carry the day."

Regardless of the voter's wisdom, all people seem ready to move on and begin governing. The optimism and interest across the forum seems a stark contrast to the predictions of doom and demise of only a few weeks past.

"Skizzy Grey is the real hero here," Princeton Professor, Nobel Laurette and ENN political analyst Paul Krugman says, "Activity is rising, new members are stepping up, and energy is in the air. He is a living breathing testament to how government is suppose to work in Europeia. He proved the theory that the government -- and the region -- can survive an exodus of primary members. The idea of the institution being more than the man was an idea -- a mere theory -- before Skizzy Grey stepped up and held Europeia together with his hands."

Despite the much-herald progress, work still exists. Population has been creeping down, and new members seem stalled within a mire of red tape. The administration of Rachel Anumia has begun by proposing a new Cabinet -- some of the occupants being holdovers from the Grey Administration.

Grand Admiral - Common-Sense Politics.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Anumia.
Ministry of Interior - Asianatic.
Culture Minister - Panlu.
Minister of Welfare - McEntire.
Minister without a Profile - Indycar Racing.

The only appointee gaining any controversy is Panlu, who is cited as too unknown to hold the post. However assurances from Rachel Anumia have led to consent from the Senate, with many eyes watching to see what the compiled team will do. Notably missing from the team was Pope Lexus X who gave the victor laurels in his concession speech saying, "We gain today a strong executive under Rachel and Asperta, and despite what many have said, I firmly believe that Rachel will rise to the occasion and become the leader Europeia needs."

With a new Cabinet, new President, and shaken up political landscape, much is still unknown in our region. However, as a former president said in a statement to this paper, Europeia chose a true "doer" to be President. And with hard work, determination, and a little luck, this term should contain leaps and bounds of "doing".

To be fair, I had chosen my cabinet before the elections and Lexus wasn't as active then. I thought he was still in semi-retirement.
