NationStates is hypocritical

Postby The Shadow Paladin » Wed May 04, 2011 2:58 pm

Have you ever realized that, even though you are a Republic, or in a democratic category, you don't have any actual elections? It's just you there, making all the decisions like the dictator you are.

I'm not complaining, I'm glad I can't just be voted out and lose everything I have worked for. If I could, I would go right to psychotic dictatorship.

Yes, it is true. My country is called a Republic but it is rulled by King Nebuchadnezzar II.

Well, Xarithis is a dictatorship. So I'm not complaining.

Unless, you're actually playing in the roles of the masses, who have made you believe you are the sole leader of a nation enacting your will when it's really their own agenda...

Deep enough in the matrix for ya?

Well...see, this whole thing is a role-play. So, let's say you do have elections -- you'd still be role-playing as the elected leader.

You can role-play elections and such; otherwise, consider the issues to be the option the Legislative Body or the People selecting those options.

Of course we have elections. You can vote for the Me party, the Myself party, or the I party.

You're assuming that the RL human being who makes the decisions maps onto a leader within the NS world--and this is indeed how parts of the game portray it. But if the issue concerns you, reject this assumption: you are the creator of the nation, but without being a player in its events, just as with a writer and her novel.

About Kapellen: "Its compassionate, intelligent population of 14.71 billion are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections"

So I guess that I, Dirk Van Mechelen, will stay in office forever, just because I'm really good at politics and because I'm really loved by a great part of the population.
Hmm, now, that's maybe not so very realistic, indeed... Yes, yes, you've got a point.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hypocrite

If you chose to make your nation a "Republic", "Commonwealth", "Confederacy", "Democracy", or the like and YOU are the one that creates a dictatorship, then YOU are the hypocrite, NOT the game itself. :palm:

On the left side of your screen there's a button that says settings. If you fall into a dictatorship, you should change your nation type accordingly. That is, if you care.

The game portion is only answering issues and the regional chat. To get elections, you should do a thread on II or F&NI, in the forum portion.
