Bleh. After Koth's post about where time was going I thought about it and I realized Tirol was actually the longest serving DoFA (or equivalent) in regional history. By a decent margin, too. You and Paleo come in second and third (both around 7 months).

DONETSK — Recently it was brought to the attention of The League that a the region of Donbass was in the hands of a group supporting the Russian Federation’s bloody war of conquest against the nation of Ukraine and more broadly LARPing as the Russian military. In accordance with our longstanding policy of proactive antifascism/anti-far right extremism, The League Defense Force determined to undertake a joint military operation with sme friends of our own to cleanse the Donbas of its Russofascist elements. The operation was conducted at major update, and met with success. Donbass has been taken under the authority of The League as a protectorate, and its occupiers given the boot.

We would like to thank our partners in The Order of the Grey Wardens and Declansburg for their help in this operation. 0/10, non-credible defense.

New Director of Foreign Affairs: Parthian Union

Hello, I am Parthian Union, I have recently been selected as the successor of Tirol for the position of Director of Foreign Affairs.

While I am grateful for this position, I know I have a long way to go to truly replace Tirol. Before this, I had been ambassador to our allies in 10000 Islands and an avid recruiter. Taking on such a role will be challenging, but I know I have a team of ready to help people who will be able to guide and support me along my journey. I plan to grow The League and Concord's influence and credibility, as well as work closely with the military and our allies to protect and strength other communities across NationStates. The promotion and success of the defender cause will be paramount to my agenda, as it has been to our regions for some time. I look forward to continuing work with our wonderful allies, as well as forge relationships with new ones going forward. One issue which will continue to be at the forefront of my work will be the upcoming Frontiers and Strongholds update, and I plan to work to increase awareness and preparedness for the changes therein.

The League and Concord is in an unprecedented position of size and success at this time, and I hope to build off of the accomplishments made so far. Thank you, and please reach out if I am needed in any way.

Establishment of the Domestic Security Bureau

To prepare for upcoming Frontiers and Strongholds update, a new institution to secure both regions' security and stability has been created by the Office of the Consulate, the Domestic Security Bureau (DSB). At present, this body is composed of the Consulate, the WA Delegates, and two newly appointed Vice-Delegates in Concord. For some more information, visit the DSB thread and see this message below from Mechanocracy, aka Spode Humbled Minions,

WA Delegate Mechanocracy wrote:The new Domestic Security Bureau of The League & Concord is devoted to ensuring the long term safety and stability of Concord in the face of an uncertain and exciting future threat environment, and is composed of the delegate of Concord, as well as long-time community members Southwestern Federal Republic (Fandom), and Council of Feathers who have been entrusted to maintain the organization in their recently appointed capacity as Vice Delegates.

Council of Feathers, who would be known to older members as Neo Polisophos, is a Consul Emeritus, a member of The League since almost its inception, and a politician who guided the region through times both tumultuous and prosperous. Southwestern Federal Republic, more commonly known as The New Fandom Republic, has roots just as deep, was the Intelligence Director over a multiyear span, and will be upholding that legacy of protecting the region in their new post.

Despite my hostility towards Quebecshire and his brand of gameplay, I have a soft spot for Spode, Makasta, Ike, and TL/Concord's community, so I'll put forth what I believe to be something constructive.

Every time I've seen a region put its security-related decisions in the hands of bureaucratic institutions like the Domestic Security Bureau rather than in the hands of its regional admins, it has turned out to cause more harm than good.

I expect y'all won't suddenly decide to scrap the DSB and go back to regional admins handling all security matters, solely because someone not even in your community is worried about it, so I only ask that you please be mindful not to fall into the trappings that a department like this often does.

Also, I suggest reaching out to some of the folks in The South Pacific that are/were on the CRS. There are some hard-learned lessons they might be able to pass along.

I'm not sure what you're criticizing, to be honest. I think you are misunderstanding what the Domestic Security Bureau is. The DSB is effectively our equivilent of the CRS. The Vice-Delegates are our version of Security Councillors/Guardians/Princes/what have you.

No processes, authority, or permissions that the DSB has are things which were previously under administrative purview.

Ah, what got me was that I assumed that regional admins were the body that handled regional domestic security before the formation of the DSB.

You're right to be unsure of what I'm criticizing, though, because I don't have any criticism to levy here. I've just seen security bureaus lead to a lot of internal paranoia, political shitshows, backstabbing, etc. So, the formation of one in a place where I happen to like most of the players has me going "Oh no" and genuinely trying to be constructive.

I sincerely hope y'all knock this one out of the park. Please avoid the pitfalls.

Ah. Well, to clarify, the DSB was largely formed to address security issues which have not been a factor before (or technically aren't yet, since F/S isn't rolled out) - i.e. the lack of an executive founder, influence decay, etc. Theoretically it would also be responsible for addressing any threat to Creeperopolis' delegacy, but obviously Concord, as a(n eventual) frontier, is going to be the main focus.

If your concern was more general security issues like citizenship, things which would involve access to IP addresses, etc, that's still handled by me due to my administrator access.

Ooooh! Yes, more general security issues were my concern. Nevermind then. Glad that's still how TL/Concord is doing things.

Ayyy! Puts on regional history nerd hat again

We had two institutions in the past classifiable as security bureaus, and the institution and its successor wound up being dismantled because it just wasn’t needed. In fact, I resigned from my post as head of the Intelligence Agency and passed the bill that legislatively dismantled it. I would not be up for a revival of the agency, let alone running it.

I’ve seen a few of the pitfalls and would bonk anyone looking to take us into them with a metaphorical stick until they came up with better ideas. That’s my job as an executive advisor.

Travel Journal and Tales of Update: 12-17-2022, Major

This lovely update, The League's Defense Forces and our allies went on an adventure across the NationStates multiverse led by the insidious colonizers of the Osiran backwater state. If you'd like to travel the many regions of the world and laugh at raiders while doing it, consider joining us here!

Image

Waltuh White of WalterWhitesOnlyFans looks in horror at the incoming raider forces

Our first wonderful and exotic adventure was to the land of WalterWhitesOnlyFans, a masterfully selected target by the Osiran strategists, a rare gem in a pit of sulfur and bore that is the tag fields. After some brief exploration, we expelled the raiders and were sure to keep moving, having had a great start to our journey!

Monuments to defender enlightenment left on Mars

In disappointment of one Elon Musk's recent aquistition of the bowels of online discourse, we were led to visit his dream destination, The Red Planet, on a brief vacation from this dying planet! Despite The extraterrestial colonialism of the wicken desert dwelling Osirans, probably seeking out another barren wasteland to spread their influence throughout, the defenders triumphed and set up a proper commemoration on the horizon... we were sure to make sure it was inclusive of the kind Osirans who brought us here, and their culture.

Image

The realistic and imminent dreams of Vorhollah and Quebecshire live on

Despite the generosity and mercy of defenders throughout the battle, the wicken Osirans insisted on being as obnoxious as possible, one in particular - qekitor - consistently making low effort thorns invigorating our passion in the fight against the dung-beetle worshipping sinkerites.

The new LDF standard after our newfound ideological enlightenment

One of the later regions we had the pleasure of protecting, New Ancapistan, gave us a lot to think about. Like, wouldn't it be sick if we had no laws, chidlren worked 14 hours a day, we ate McDonald's™ for every meal, and you were owned by a corporation? We sure think so, and are happy to have experience this lovely region and learn a lot from it, we hope our raider friends did too!

All in all, we got to experience some great designations all while beating raiders (only 1 win for Osi lol gg ez) and spending time with our friends! After the common raider L streak resulted in some knee-bending, we chased EPSA for a bit and called it a night.

We need YOU!

Join the fight for New Westphalia today, and save this region from destruction!

Today at major update, nearly 50 defenders stormed the region of New Westphalia, being occupied by the invader menace! Despite our best efforts and fantastic execution of this operation on the part of both our officers and participating members, we did not have enough troops to seize the delegacy of the region.

Defender command remains in constant communication with the native community of New Westphalia, and we're fighting for them. You can too, and this is your chance to make your mark on the gameplay world. It takes a battalion, not a small group of gameplayers, to complete a liberation.

We're calling on you, the individuals and small regions of NationStates, to join the fight!

Free City of Rigia - the legitimate Delegate of New Westphalia himself, has taken up arms to defend his region. The Westphalian community has faced much adversity over the last decade, and they stand strong in face of this raid, working hand in hand with the international defender community,

Free City of Rigia wrote:I encourage everyone who reads this to help those in need who cannot help themselves. My community is able to survive on the site due to the advice and assistance provided without prompt in the ongoing raid against New Westphalia. All need a helping a hand, let it be yours to aid.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

    1. Get your regional WA Delegate, or other Delegates you know to APPROVE LIBERATE NEW WESTPHALIA!

    2. Join the military effort by contacting a defender officer! Defender contact points can be found on Discord at Cubic#1608, WynkenBlynken#1150, or rjk2992#4809.

    3. Show this report to others you know, raise awareness, and encourage them to do steps 1 and 2 if they can!

Claim your place in NationStates history. Win or lose outright, let's save this region. Earn your name on the list below.

out of curiosity;
TITO help usually just gets marked as a '+tito' or similar in reports like this; is the lack of specifics because they don't feel like passing on their participant lists for whatever reason, or do they not actively keep track themselves?
i get they typically do their own thing, the lack of granularity's always just struck me as a bit weird haha
