Most observers believed the reality was simply that The Wellspring was TNP’s frontier, a territorial extension of it.

The Wellspring didn't just become another territory; it transformed into a vibrant and self-sustaining community in its own right.

we also cannot deny that The Wellspring is not an extension of TNP, and that even when it hews closer to our community, it will always have its own identity and will never be contained.

North's Delegate Transition Adrift?

Good day readers! Time flies, and it has been over a week since The North Pacific conducted delegate elections. A whirlwind gale of a week, full of WFE changes, mass and targeted telegrams alike, fervent RMB posting, WFE updates, and executive appointments galore! Following his loss of the elected Delegacy, former Delegate Chipoli handed his gameside position off to Security Councilor, former Vice Delegate, current MoFA, and recently former temporary Delegate Pallaith - with little fanfare or loss of endos from Chipoli's ballpark of 840 or so.

The same, however, cannot be said for the transition to the winner of the big seat, Kaschovia. Now, to be clear, one can hardly expect a GCR delegate transition to be complete in a week outside the best of circumstances, and TNP is facing hardly that, having thoroughly ran through delegates this year like the wind rungs through the rigging. Kaschovia, returned recently from semi-retirement, was not an existing officer of note, security councilor, or any other role which required or allowed holding a preexisting high endorsement count. Admirable efforts were made in the run-up to and course of the election to tart up to appreciable levels, however, and Kaschovia managed to achieve nearly 600 endorsements by the election's end and the transition's start on 11th September. High goals were set for the transition onwards from Pallaith to the elected delegate, with a Legendary cards giveaway announced to a random endorser at milestones of 650, 700, and 800 endorsements.

From there, however, the sea has been iceburgier. Pray allow me a to include an image with this missive:

(Image)

As one can see, Kaschovia proceeded onwards from the election at an initially appreciable pace, garnering over 50 net endorsements over the following 4 days and meeting the first milestone of 650 endorsements (congrats TyGerria on the Legendary!). While an average of 13 per day is perhaps a bit below expectations, things unfortunately only declined from there. Before the week's end, Kaschovia's endorsement growth had stalled out to the speed of a ship stuck firmly in doldrums...and then began to decline. So too did the Delegate-elect's RMB posting of the "Delegacy Transition Tracker," perhaps out of shame to display negative numbers. The gap to become delegate remains around 180 endorsements, and only narrows each day now by way of Pallaith's own endorsement count declining at a rate ever-so slightly faster than Kaschovia's.

Suddenly, those milestones of 700 and, by the gods, sea ice, and the coldest winds 800, seem as distant as the stars that guide us towards shore.

This raises the question, "what now?"
Shall Security Advisor Pallaith hold the delegacy indefinitely as an unelected proxy?
Shall TNP sacrifice over 20% of their endorsements to speed the transition, and accept a delegate just barely ahead of The South Pacific and The Communist Bloc in power?
Or shall we meet in the middle, and watch Pallaith occupy the seat for weeks upon weeks until his own decline meets Kaschovia's listless growth somewhere south of 700 endorsements?

Only time shall tell - unless The North Pacific's leadership deigns to comment.

Yours in the salt air,

The Ever-Wanderer

In fairness here, some of that has been part of a WA-wide drop that's only been amplified by some unfortunate goings on behind the scenes in TNP (and no, I'm not referring to anything Delegacy-related, it's infrastructure related) and F/S. I was actually talking to someone about some of this recently and really with kind of the exception of the new frontiers and like...TCB non-piled, just about everyone's taken a hit on WAs.

And I wouldn't call TNP's Most Feared Unicorn just an endorser. :P

Hulldom refers to R3N finally taking his retirement seriously after years or warning and even previously locking himself out of his main - Catching TNP flat-footed and leading to a near total loss of their extensive automated infrastructure.

Correct, but that's sort of on us (them? My WA has only been there for like...a sum total for three days since leaving the Delegacy) for being over reliant on him. But r3n's off doing better things with his time and life now, I certainly don't begrudge him that.

And to @Improper Classifications, yes. If that nation is still around, I'm going to guess it's because r3n put it on an auto-login.

Correct, he gave literal years of warning, and that TNP still relied so heavily on closed source scripts with a bus factor of 1 right up until they all went boom is entirely a self-made consequence.

I mean, no? My understanding is he left, but he'd generally be contactable. This time he left and refused all attempts at contact (that I understand). So like yeah, I agree--we should have tried to have more of our stuff be built by other hands (our server bots are Oracle and Sil iirc), but meh. I am spectacularly unbothered by this because at the end of the day I am literally incapable of stepping into that tech void and me screaming about it wouldn't have made a lick of difference.

That you don't intepret as "warning" years of stepping slowly further away, after already locking himself out of his main once, with increasingly minimal support that also shrunk from once supporting TNP and a network of allies down to basically just TNP - that none of this made TNP think and act on, "maybe someone else should either apprentice in this role or we should be working on alternatives," that his support for a game he didn't play anymore was taken as a given, was folly in and if itself.

If nothing else, this is a lesson in one of the myriad values of open source. When sweeze abandoned Swarm and it broke (before the days of Henson), young Alex was able to step in and patch it and things marched onwards.

All that said - to blame TNP's decline relative to other feeders (thus ignoring frontiers, which effects all equally), that has it on-course to be at least equal to her peers, entirely on the infrastructure loss....would itself be a stunning admission that the only thing special TNP ever had going for it was the technical contributions of one man and their created efficiencies, and not any culture of special success.

That, or, one must alternatively also blame other unique factors.

Well, I expected no less of the statement, of course, that's what they're running with. I'm surprised that they let the quote I cited (which is in the original statement, go and check), slip through.

Well, well, it appears we have a budding spin doctor in our midst. Your attempts at cherry-picking and twisting words are truly something to behold, though not in a good way. If you had bothered to read the entire sentence, you'd have noticed it continues with "that goes beyond borders or formal claims of ownership."

So, where, pray tell, does it declare that TW is an official extension of TNP? Exactly. Nowhere. Fabricating tales to fuel your anti-TW/TNP agenda isn't exactly a recipe for avoiding embarrassment, now is it?

I genuinely can't tell if this was a typo for TNP, but if it wasn't — I mean, to Souls' point about open-source, I think Glen made all the code for TSP's (former?) endotarting tool fully open-source, so anybody could have, and still could, contribute to it if they wanted to. Open-source obviously isn't a silver bullet for future maintenance though :P

Let me break it down for you. I asked that because, honestly, your take on what TW is doesn't really matter to anyone here. It's like trying to sell ice to a penguin. So instead of building your whole case on your made up lies, why not bring some actual evidence to the table? Problem is, there isn't any, because, well, it's just not true. You might want to work on grasping that pretty straightforward idea.
Ostrovskiy wrote:Anyway, it's become one since I left the Wellspring through the series of alignment shifts and treaties.

You're wrong. TW hasn't effectively become an extension of TNP since you left. Nor has it gone through a series of alignment shifts. But hey, keep those creative narratives coming; they make for an entertaining read!

TNP already received the free trial of our delegate transition services - if they'd like a revisit, they'll have to pursue a contract, at least a 1:1 operational one-off. And also, even our full 50 or 60 piling endos can't fix this quite yet!

But, my office door is open, should any minister wish to talk. Someone tell Robes that I'm open to authorial and data contracts as well!
