Representatives Put Pen to Paper Over Cassowary Quiche

On June 7, the governments of Carcassonne and Community solidified their friendship by ratifying a treaty outlining their mutual goals of defense and cultural cooperation. The agreement is the first ratified treaty by either of the frontiers and builds upon the existing diplomatic relationships that were officially recognized through the establishment of embassies on May 11. The Community Herald was given exclusive access to the signing ceremony hosted by the Carcassonne delegation. The Herald’s correspondent attending the event provided a detailed accounting:

Prime Secretary Marim Grunzy and External Affairs Secretary Braza Wain were seen arriving at the Château Bonaparte as the sun was setting behind the long fence of the adjoining vineyard. A muscled manservant in a pressed silk shirt nodded at the pair, then swung the heavy oak door open. Using his free hand, he gestured at the left side of the foyer as if to say "that way". The delegation from Community, taking their commemorative pens and wine glasses from a second manservant just inside, walked into a long hall with a desk at the end. Behind the desk sat Minister-President Pauline Bonaparte and, behind her, the Emperor of Carcassonne himself, Gulliver Pembroke.

The pairs of representatives exchanged warm greetings before sitting together at the table. They took their commemorative pens and signed the documents to the applause of the on-looking crowd of media and government officials. The foursome clinked their glasses together and toasted to the health of their regions and their new partnership. Afterward, the Minister-President made a brief announcement, ushering the guests to the dining hall. The guests were served a selection of professionally crafted dishes, catered by Bonaparte’s culinary staff. Among the many dishes, a Cassowary Egg quiche was featured and received praise throughout the attendance.

At the end of the evening, the Minister-President addressed the press commenting on their new commitment to Community: "The Crowned Republic is elated to enter into this alliance with our friends in Community. The Emperor believes, as do I, that new frontier regions across the world should stick together and, like bricks united by mortar, become a powerful foundation for each other's upward growth."

The Presidium issued a statement following the event, stating their commitment to their new alliance and frontiers as a whole:

The Presidium is excited to work alongside the government of Carcassonne not only as friends but as allies. Fostering strong relationships with fellow frontiers has been a priority for this Administration. Carcassonne was the first frontier that Community established an embassy with and considering our ongoing cooperation since then, it was a natural decision to recognize our friendship and commitment to our shared values by way of this document.”

Both governments have stated their dedication to cooperating and building upon their existing relations, citing mutual interest in furthering a frontier-focused diplomatic agenda. The Treaty of Friendship serves as a strong example of how different regional cultures can work together under a greater shared identity and purpose.

Deception in Greater Sahara! How Guardianship Transformed into Betrayal

The Community Herald sat down with government officials from Greater Sahara for an exclusive interview concerning the recent attack on the frontier. In the early morning of June 6, Greater Saharans awoke to a chaotic scene: One of their newest Guardians had seized the delegacy from the President and was mass ejecting their comrades. They would soon find that the individual they once trusted to stand for the protection of their region was the leader of a foreign military group that spent weeks gaining their confidence to see the attack to fruition.

During the interview, the Greater Saharans recounted how they first discovered their region had been attacked and the feelings they experienced. “I was very confused,” noted Zong Jam Dan, one of the first Greater Saharans to notice the invasion. “I didn’t know what was happening and saw Lave lost the delegate position and I wasn’t Chief Justice anymore.”

Vice-President Inner Kilvaka received a telegram that served as their first notice of the attack. The telegram, sent from representatives of the region Concord, shed light on what had occurred that evening. “Disbelief and hurt,” the Vice-President described how it felt when first reading the telegram. “We had just appointed Governed by Squirrels as Guardian at the time. I had trusted them greatly, and even now it is sometimes hard to believe that everything they said was designed to prepare to attack us. It was betrayal, plain and simple. We all trusted Governed by Squirrels. They were counting on it, and used it to their advantage.”

The Guardian-turned-traitor who led the attack on Greater Sahara, Governed by Squirrels, first appeared in the region over a month prior to the invasion. They arrived in the region amidst a period of internal conflict, using it as an opportunity to establish themself as an impartial observer. Over the week that followed, they built trust within the community and displayed an aptitude for analyzing law which resulted in their appointment as Chief Justice. “During their service, they were, if I am to be honest, quite a good Chief Justice,” mentioned Inner Kilvaka. “In fact, I even went so far as to present them with a medal for their apparently unbiased interpretation of the law, shortly after they stepped down as Chief Justice.”

Governed by Squirrels, who is now known to be Valtarre — the leader of an infamous raider region called The Brotherhood of Malice — served as Chief Justice for a month before resigning their position. The resignation followed a period of inactivity from the Chief Justice, who still expressed interest in serving Greater Sahara. “After such a time helping us I found it a good idea to bring them into Guardianship,” said President Lave Deldederady when discussing Valtarre’s appointment. “Then we learned why they were so good at legal issues, they had experience in this game. They had lied to us the entire time. They stabbed us in the back.” Valtarre served five days as Guardian before leading the attack on Greater Sahara.

Despite spending over a month planning their attack, the occupation of Greater Sahara lasted only twelve hours thanks to the quick and efficient assistance offered to the region by defender militaries. We spoke with Cubic—the commander of The League’s Defense Forces—who was instrumental in organizing the defense of Greater Sahara. “When natives actively participate in their own liberations, the odds of it succeeding increase a lot,” he said when asked about organizing the defense efforts. “...having Greater Saharans who can work directly with liberators made things much easier.” He commented on how well the Greater Saharan government handled the situation and he was there to guide them and answer questions after the successful liberation.

The Greater Saharan government has already begun moving forward after the attack. On June 12th, the region passed a referendum to transition Greater Sahara from a frontier to a stronghold. Transitioning to a stronghold will allow for greater security and eliminate the risk of another attack on their region. “I can only imagine how the increased security of a stronghold will benefit our freedoms, and in turn help smooth the path of democracy without fear of invasion,” commented Vice-President Inner Kilvaka on the decision. Additionally, the attack on Greater Sahara inspired the formation of the Saharan Liberation Army (SLA). The SLA will work toward the defense of other regions, in close cooperation with the regions that assisted Greater Sahara in their time of need. The Vice-President was optimistic as their region moves past the attack stating, “It is a very exciting time for us, and I look forward to seeing what lies ahead.”

The Meritocracy of Krilgox: Community’s Icy Jewel

The Meritocracy of Krilgox is a snowy gem tucked away in Community’s mountainous northeast. Known for its high altitude and frigid weather, Krilgox has been making waves regionwide for its unique governmental structure and progressive initiatives. The Community Herald interviewed the nation’s head of state, Evalynn Rakhila Madore, who delved into their overarching goals, transparency measures, and commitment to democracy and human rights. Our discussion revolved around many initiatives, including improving living standards, addressing the needs of marginalized communities, and promoting vital sectors like education, healthcare, and social welfare. Moreover, the Herald explored Krilgox’s unwavering stance on environmental protection and climate change.

Regarding Krilgox’s environment, the nation is covered in vast forests of coniferous evergreen trees such as Spruce, Fir, and Cedar. The cool climate causes Krilgox to only reach around 20 degrees Celsius during the summer. Vacationers should avoid traveling to Krilgox in the winter without proper preparation, as winters can reach a staggering -20 degrees Celsius and are prone to having months-long blizzards.

Our esteemed interlocutor, President Madore convened with us from Caldera’s Peek—the capital of Krilgox—to briefly describe their nation’s approach to governance. According to Madore, Krilgox's government operates as a Meritocracy, with the ambitious vision of creating a realistic and attainable utopia where their citizens can truly thrive. Central to their philosophy is the idea of rewarding individuals based on their contributions to society, and they place tremendous emphasis on fostering transparency and accountability.

To ensure utmost transparency, the government of Krilgox has implemented several pioneering measures. Notably, they welcome public visits to the awe-inspiring Snowcloaked Fortress, the epicenter of their Administration. While visitors are accompanied by diligent military personnel, who serve as security guards, they are given the exceptional opportunity to witness legislative debates and explore the extensive library housing records of the government's actions. This unique accessibility demonstrates their unwavering commitment to keeping the public engaged and informed. It is worth mentioning, however, that certain state secrets are securely guarded in a separate room, safeguarding sensitive information and striking a delicate balance between transparency and national security.

The Krilgoxian Administration released official census information regarding the everyday lives of their citizens to provide the Herald with more insight into the average individual’s experience in the nation. The average Krilgoxian lives in a spacious apartment able to house eight people, with the nearest grocery store being, at maximum, a little over ten city blocks away. Krilgox provides its citizens with fare-free and quick public transit to access needs and other community amenities, free healthcare for when life brings the unexpected, and inexpensive, yet challenging, college courses. While the average citizen does work less than those living in other countries in the region, the government’s Universal Basic Income (UBI) policy has allowed its populace to enjoy greater personal freedom and focus more on their interests.

The only time the average citizen needs to worry about anything is during the winter when the Sea of Blizzards makes its annual appearance for 80+ days and requires the government to implement curfews and strict law enforcement—though citizens who work critical jobs during this time of the year are paid three times more than any other time of the year.

The Herald was excited to get the opportunity to highlight the Meritocracy of Krilgox for its first issue. We would like to thank the Krilgoxian government and President Madore for their cooperation in compiling this information and allowing us to take a glimpse into the world of the Frozen Jewel.

FOCUS: Regions Come Together to Establish the First Frontier Alliance

The inception of frontier regions—regions in which nations automatically spawn—ushered in a new era of region-building and interregional politics to the world of NationStates. Accompanied by this update was a clear need for collaboration between frontiers to ward off international threats and guide the direction of this major gameplay change. The Frontier Organization for Cooperation, Unity, and Security (FOCUS) was established to do just that.

On July 17, 2023, the regions of Carcassone, Community, and Valley of Peace convened to ratify FOCUS, a multilateral agreement aimed at ensuring mutual defense and cooperation between frontier regions on several fronts.

The Community Herald sat down with Minister-President Pauline Bonaparte of Carcassonne and Prime Secretary Marim Grunzy of Community to ask some questions about their new frontier alliance. The Minister-President had this to say regarding FOCUS’s primary goals, “FOCUS's primary goals are to promote interregional cooperation and friendship, and assure the mutual defense of its member regions. Especially in these early stages of NationStates' frontier update, we are vulnerable to outside aggression. Member regions of FOCUS can be assured that cosignatories will come to the defense of any member region that may suffer [an] attack.” Marim Grunzy echoed a similar sentiment, applying focus on the need for frontiers to stand together and join under their shared identity.

Prime Secretary Grunzy had this to say when asked what inspired them to help form the alliance, “I was excited to hear that our close friends in Carcassonne had similar desires to form a frontier alliance when they first approached us with the idea. It has always been my aspiration for Community to embrace its identity as a frontier and in doing so, collaborate with other major frontier regions. I believe strongly that like-minded frontiers must join together as a collective force to ensure our security and mutual growth. I believe that FOCUS is a notable step toward achieving those goals and I eagerly look forward to working alongside Carcassonne and Valley of Peace to begin strengthening our alliance.”

We asked Bonaparte for some insight into how FOCUS came to be and what the vision for the alliance is, moving forward. “FOCUS was developed after Community and Carcassonne signed their mutual Treaty of Friendship. Carcassonne holds as a foreign policy directive that frontiers, when capable and mutually beneficial, should align their interests and share in each others' defense. After approaching the government of Community with a proposal for a multilateral treaty organization, Marim Grunzy and Braza Wain agreed with our proposal and we decided to approach Valley of Peace, a similar-sized frontier with the same goals. Together with Oogway, our regions drafted a treaty and ratified it.”

“As its member regions continue to mature, Carcassonne hopes FOCUS will lead the way as an example of advanced, successful frontier regions in partnership. It is also my hope that, in the future, other frontier regions see the value of joining with Community, Carcassonne, and Valley of Peace and accede to joining FOCUS as our partners.”

As it remains in its early stages, we have yet to see the true impact FOCUS will have on the world of frontiers or if others will join in the pursuit of the regions’ goals. Regardless of what is to come, FOCUS has established itself as a beacon for frontier unity and serves as the first alliance of its kind.

Economic Report of the Presidium (ERP)

From the office of the Prime Secretary of Community, the Presidium has released its economic report for the current Administration’s term. The report, as required by the Charter of Community, serves as a progress report from the Prime Secretary and their Subcommittees for their stated administrative goals. The report covers the first two months of the current three-month term of the Presidium. For transparency and ease of access, the Community Herald has agreed to release the full report on this issue for Community Members and foreign interests alike.

Forward from Prime Secretary Marim Grunzy

I am proud to present the first economic report for this Administration to Community and to our friends abroad. In this report, our Administration has outlined the accomplishments of the first two months of this term, as well as statistics on the overall growth of Community, and an overview of the many initiatives and programs the Presidium has created. Our team has far surpassed the expectations that I expressed in my address following the election. I am extremely happy to see the progress we have made together to achieve our goals and make Community a strong, inclusive region. I intend to continue to build on our momentum and strive to uphold a high standard for governance in our region. Here’s to you for making that possible, comrades!

On the Economic Growth of Community

This term, we were able to witness the meteoric growth of Community. The Presidium has compiled statistics starting from the day after Community’s founding to the present day, showing the trends and influx of new nations to our region (Figure 1). Our status as a frontier has naturally enabled our region to grow significantly over a short amount of time. Combining this with the Presidium’s focus on recruitment efforts has allowed our region to maintain a strong population of approximately 780 nations after peaking at just over 1,000 in May. Despite the population decline Community suffered once nations ceased to exist, we have stabilized our growth and have held strong around this number for over a month. At the time of writing, Community is the fourth largest frontier region in the world and is first among frontiers that were never strongholds. The Presidium will continue its focus on recruitment, utilizing stamps and our manual recruitment efforts championed by the Community Labor Collective to ensure the continued growth of the region.

In addition to recruitment, the Presidium has been focused on encouraging World Assembly membership among Community Members. World Assembly membership is crucial for ensuring the security and protection of our region while strengthening international voting power. The Subcommittee for Public Safety has worked hard to encourage and incentivize World Assembly involvement in Community over the last two months through initiatives such as the Community Defense Force. Our region has secured 55 endorsements on its World Assembly Delegate at the time of writing, making our Delegate strongest among frontiers that were never strongholds. The Presidium has included statistics showing the consistent increase in endorsements on the World Assembly Delegate in Community since our founding (Figure 2).

Lastly, Community has seen an increase in the off-site involvement of Community Members. While still slowly building, we have been able to reach 40 Community Members who have joined the Discord server. As new developments in roleplay and government involvement increase in Community, the Presidium will strive to inspire more activity and engagement in Discord, as it has become a central hub and necessary medium for all initiatives and activities within the region.

Subcommittee for Media Affairs

This term the Subcommittee for Media Affairs was tasked with many important initiatives. The Presidium is pleased to confirm that we have achieved all of our established goals for the Subcommittee this term. The two major initiatives that have been started under Media Affairs have been the Community Labor Collective and The Community Herald. Both initiatives are intended to be institutional structures within Community that future Administrations can build upon for years to come.

The Community Labor Collective (CLC) was established by the Presidium as a cooperative, volunteer organization to allow Community Members to serve the region in various positions throughout the Subcommittees. The initiative is headed by Media Affairs but is ultimately a collaborative effort between all departments of the Presidium in order to guarantee a well-ordered induction of new Committee Members to their positions. The CLC has seen early success and has appointed at least one Community Member to each open position since its founding. Future goals for the CLC include the detailed logging of Committee Member contributions in Collective positions to certify member recognition and awards and the continued recruitment of new Collective members. The Subcommittee for Media Affairs encourages all Community Members with a desire to aid their region to join the Collective and serve Community in a meaningful way.

The Community Herald was founded by the Presidium to serve as the premier news source for Community. The Herald will strive to publish monthly issues covering important Community-focused news, opinion pieces, advertisements, and reports on world events. The paper’s publication is overseen by the Subcommittee for Media Affairs and will aim to maintain a standard of unbiased reporting. Opinion pieces will be appropriately presented to ensure clarity for readers. Future goals for the Herald include an expansion of different recurring sections and features, growing our team of journalists, and working with foreign governments and citizens to cover external reports. The Presidium believes that the Herald can establish itself as a high-quality newspaper that accurately represents Community’s values while enticing readers from all corners of the world.

Overall, the Subcommittee for Media Affairs has been extremely successful in completing the goals set before them this term. Beyond the two major initiatives, the Subcommittee has been consistent with polling and engagement in the region. Using the base that has been built so far this term, the Presidium hopes to continue the growth and success of Media Affairs.

Subcommittee for External Affairs

The Presidium’s focus on foreign affairs has been very successful this term and the Subcommittee of External Affairs has achieved every objective and more in the first two months of the Administration. It was the Subcommittee’s primary directive to continue to establish relationships with fellow frontiers and regions that align with Community’s foundational values. Through these efforts, the Presidium has established embassies with ten regions over the two-month period. In addition to the new embassies, the Presidium successfully negotiated two treaties which were ratified by Community Members with resounding approval.

The Community-Carcassonne Treaty of Friendship was ratified by Community on June 7 and stands as the first treaty commitment taken by both regions. The Treaty of Friendship was negotiated with the government of Carcassonne, after acknowledging the regions’ mutual perspective on frontier relations and a recent history of collaboration. The treaty serves to solidify the regions’ diplomatic relations, efforts toward cultural cooperation, and a commitment to mutual defense.

Following the Treaty of Friendship, Community ratified a treaty establishing the frontier alliance FOCUS, alongside the regions of Carcassonne and Valley of Peace. The Frontier Organization for Cooperation, Unity, and Security has been established as the first frontier alliance, aiming to foster an idea of frontier unity and mutual defense. The treaty focuses on a dedication to diplomatic relations, outlines military policy and procedures, and an agreement to share intelligence between the member regions. The Presidium believes that FOCUS can embody our government’s philosophy regarding the unified efforts of frontiers to ensure security and prosperity. We strongly feel that Community’s identity as a frontier should be cherished and remain an integral aspect of our foreign policy.

Moving forward, the Subcommittee for External Affairs will be concentrated on bolstering the relationships Community has established thus far. Through the Community Labor Collective, the Subcommittee will continue to recruit and assign new Ambassadors to our embassy regions. The Presidium’s goal is to strengthen our existing relationships through consistent communication, planned events, and other cooperative activities with our embassy partners and allies.

General Initiatives

Beyond the projects established within the Subcommittees, the Presidium has worked on many initiatives and activities throughout the region. A major development spearheaded by Prime Secretary Grunzy and Public Safety Officer Nova has been Project Liberton. Project Liberton is an activity unique to Community, where members of our Discord server democratically decide the development of the nation of Liberton. Project Liberton has been a resounding success, regularly receiving engagement from members of the server who have collectively answered dozens of issues for Liberton to date. The Presidium has organized a flag contest and polling to determine the look and details of the nation of Liberton, to ensure every possible aspect of the nation has been decided collectively. We are excited to see the continued development of the nation and invite all individuals interested in participating to our Discord server to vote on the next issue.

Establishing roleplay in Community has been another major focus of the Presidium thus far. After collaborating and discussing with Community Members in the region, Community Members have successfully decided on a map for the world of Civitas. Roleplay is a fresh new aspect of being a member of Community and we are happy to see many Citizens applying for land claims already. We feel that roleplay can be a large part of our region’s activity and we will strive to develop it into a premier feature of Community.

Finally, the Presidium has worked hard to consistently develop smaller projects, such as the daily census report—created to encourage activity and discussion on the Regional Message Board. We intend to pursue further advances in our region’s technological capabilities, as we feel it improves the quality of life of our Community Members and provides unique activities to participate in. Our team has worked extensively behind the scenes to research and develop new technologies for our Discord server, recruitment, and more. We are excited to announce that there are many new developments on their way.

End of Term Objectives

The Presidium desires to continue to challenge itself with new goals and tasks through the end of this term. It is important that we continue to work on making Community better, despite achieving our projected goals. We will continue to pursue the goals outlined for each Subcommittee in addition to various other objectives. These objectives include the development and release of new technologies and activities, encouraging World Assembly involvement and discussion, expanding recruitment efforts, roleplay initiatives, and more regional events. The Presidium will maintain the foundation we have laid and secure a culture of continued growth within Community.

On True Frontiers

As I assume the seat of Prime Secretary for my second term, I call for all comrades of Community to assemble as we approach the next phase of our region’s development. While we have focused on looking inward to construct a strong foundation for our region, we must now look outward to understand our place in the greater landscape of NationStates. Our identity as a frontier has been the guiding hand in building our government, our laws, and our regional perspective. Through the embrace of this identity, we have found allies of kindred thought and zeal and have officially recognized the strength of these commonalities. It is a source of great pride to see Community and our allies ascend as some of the leading frontier regions. Along with our success, we carry the weight of responsibility for representing the ideals and values of frontiers. It can be said that the frontiers that fulfill these ideas are the true frontiers and their advocates, the frontierists.

Being a true frontier is not a matter of origin or military alignment. It is irrelevant if a frontier did not originate as one. A frontier is no lesser than its peers if it exists as an extension of a non-frontier region. Nor does being a true frontier rely on a preference for defending or raiding or neither. To be a frontierist is to champion ideals of solidarity, governance, and common prosperity as they relate to all frontier regions. It is the responsibility of every frontierist to foster community, structure, and guidance for new nations as they enter the world. Likewise, a frontierist must acknowledge our fundamental, collective purpose and our right to flourish unimpeded. Unlike our Pacific cousins, our status as a frontier is elective and so too is our share of this duty. The neglect of fulfilling this responsibility serves to bastardize the existence of all frontiers and wither the potential of nascent nations. As part of maintaining the standard of frontiers, the frontierist must unequivocally stand against the debasement of these values.

There has been a proliferation of frontiers that have abandoned their inherent duty and serve as an affront to frontierist principles. Whether out of ignorance or neglect, they allow their frontiers to languish, devoid of structure and purpose. These regions exist not as frontiers, but as wastelands. The wastelands stand barren, surviving as hollow monuments of mediocrity. Their construction serves to cripple the prosperity of frontiers and ensnare new nations in a void without guidance or aid. A wasteland is the antithesis of a frontier. They dilute the power of frontiers without regard. The expansion of the wastelands should be of great concern to the frontierist, whose chief commitment is to the betterment of all frontiers. Idleness in response to the threat of the wastelands is the betrayal of our frontierist ideals. It is with these acknowledgments that I call for unified action against the wastelands.

Let the dismantling of the wastelands be the praxis of frontierist thought. To ensure the preservation of our values and a secure and productive future for all new nations, we must disable the shallow husks that masquerade as frontiers. I encourage all frontierists to embrace this as their foremost objective. The wastelands are the only barriers to guaranteeing the unrestricted growth and success of all frontiers. In this, their dismantling is not an act of hostility but an act of liberation. Through unified action, we may propel frontiers beyond the burden of the wastelands. Frontierists from all regions will benefit from this collective effort. And to our non-frontier allies: you only stand to gain from the successes of the frontierist. The advancement of the broader frontier community will yield intrinsic value to regions aspiring to attract engaged and well-informed nations. Thus, I urge those foreign regions, who maintain sympathies with the struggle of the frontierist, to stand united in our fight against the wastelands.

Comrades of the Frontier, we stand at the precipice of a new era of unity and prosperity. Let us unite under the aegis of frontierist principles and cast away the scourge of the wastelands once and for all. In their place, we will erect pillars, built from the foundation of our ethos, that will stand as testaments to the combined strength of the frontiers. Let them be a call to all frontiers to shatter the chains of the wastelands and raise the banner of the frontierist so that the collective power of the frontiers may be finally realized.

In Solidarity,

Marim Grunzy

An interesting statement piece, one likely to be looked back on as a defining moment in the birth of frontierism, whatever it ends up looking like. I respect the boldness in putting pen to paper on the fundamentals of a new ideology, that's exciting stuff. The general idea then essentially boils down to an analysis of mechanical fact: you lose spawns to "wasteland" frontiers, and you'd much rather not. It's certainly an exciting prospect, and I look forward to seeing how frontierists justify their invasions.

I do feel the need to make a statement of my own though, as long as we're writing history here. No region has the "right" to flourish, period. Regional sovereignty, as with most everything else in Gameplay, is only backed up by the threat of force. Community may presently enjoy the privilege of flourishing unimpeded, thanks to its savvy foreign affairs, but it has not bought in perpetuity any kind of "right" not to be destroyed. After all, one day it may decay into a "wasteland", and then even other frontierists will consider your mandate revoked.

Really interesting stuff. I'm interested in seeing it refined through action!

This is indeed a very compelling vision for the future of gameplay among the frontiers, and emblematic of an outlook similar to Carcassonne's. It is my opinion as well that frontiers have a responsibility to act as cradles of civilization for new players, and it serves no one for fresh nations to languish in puppet farms that converted to frontier status for kicks. We look forward to working with our friends in Community on this frontierist shared vision!

inchresting! i love watching new ns ideologies developing in real time (<- guy who is finally coming around to the frontier era). so this is a declaration of a shift to an imperialist regional ideology where the goal is to pick out regions which are deemed to be wasting their spawns (& subsequently undeserving of them) & then destroy them/remove them as frontiers to gain more spawns for active/deserving frontiers?

It bought the sacrosanct right to not be destroyed the moment it established itself as a seriously leftist region. :p

Was discussing this with you in TCB's discord, but I don't think it makes sense to reduce this to 'imperialism'. This is far more adjacent to Proper Francoist Thought than anything else, in that it's the first real NationStates political theory since Francoism to understand the fundamental fact that certain regions have certain unique mechanics, which render them a 'class' with distinct interests. So it's not so much imperialism (effectively independence but you set up colonies and LARP as 19th-Century European royalty) as it is a very unique kind of military independence based not off of mere regional interests, but the interests of 'true' frontiers as a class, and how they relate to the health of the game as a whole. It's definitely a powerful affirmation of independent gameplay, and a strong statement in favour of frontiers being their own regions with their own interests; I look forward to seeing what comes out of this next.

I have long been a proponent of being a steward of NationStates by locking down and destroying regions that contribute nothing to the metaverse, so it warms my heart to see a region raising high the banner of such a noble cause. Something has to be done about these Wastelands.

Prime Secretary Marim Grunzy recently announced the creation of the Vanguard, a new wing of the Community Defense Force. The Vanguard, under the command of General Braza Wain, stands as the embodiment of frontierist principles. Its primary objective is to dismantle the wastelands while aiding in the military support of Community's allies and friends as well. Frontierists swiftly heeded the call to action. Within 24 hours of the formation of the Vanguard, forces were dispatched with a staggering nine frontierists supporting the Grand Army of Carcassonne in The International UN, a desolate wasteland primed for dismantling.

Indeed, The International UN is a wasteland if there was ever one. It provides no security for new nations, maintaining a delegate with only two endorsements; it has no community or government, leaving new nations without the structure they need. These facts are an affront to the fundamental principles of frontierism and contribute to The International UN's degradation of the potential of new nations. The incompetence of the wasteland's founder was further proven, by their retreat and abandonment of the region. The International UN had consciously abandoned the inherent duty of all frontiers and this is why they were attacked.

Curious still are the lengths that were taken to halt the dismantling of this wasteland. By the end of this mission, the wasteland defenders spent nearly three days and dozens of nations trying to dislodge frontierist forces and partners. All of this effort was expended in order to defend a region with no community and no prospects. The protection of wastelands will only serve to harm the quality of the NationStates world and the health of all frontiers. To be clear, the frontierist holds no animosity toward the defender no the raider. Where our objectives may align, the frontierist will commonly work alongside those who express their support for our objectives. Efforts toward mutual cooperation can be realized.

Regardless, the Community Defense Force views this maiden operation of the Vanguard as a success. It also highlights the close cooperation between FOCUS forces, and we hope to continue this cooperation going forward.

The following members of the Vanguard participated in the operation:

General Braza Wain
Cadet Dacania
Cadet Gloucester City
Cadet Hciria
Cadet JACJ
Cadet Oceania Nova
Cadet Sith Order
Cadet Stonechur
Cadet Urboch

Dacania, Gloucester City, Hciria, JACJ, Oceania Nova, Sith Order, Stonechur, and Urboch have all shown their commitment to Community and to Frontierism with their service in this operation. With their service to Community in this mission, they have received a promotion to the rank of Private. Please join us in congratulating them on this achievement.

We would again like to thank our allies in Carcassonne, as well as our friends in the Black Hawks, Ijaka, Lone Wolves United, and the West Pacific for their cooperation in this mission.

We are happy to have collaborated on this mission with our allies in Community! It provided invaluable training to both of our militaries and served as an excellent display of our shared principles as frontier regions.
