That doesn't make sense. Explain it to me.

It contradicts existing legislation and attempts to legislate on nonmembers. Moreover, it is poorly formatted and written, and contains contradiction within itself. All in all, worthy of the removal it received.

EDIT: Bloody hell, IA, how do you keep doing this to me?

2 hours ago: The proposal "WA Fair Trade Agreement" was removed from the floor.

107 minutes ago: The Socialist Republic of The United Kingdom of the Soviets submitted a proposal to the General Assembly Free Trade Board entitled "WA Fair Trade Agreement".

Some folks just don't take "no" as an answer.

WA Fair Trade Agreement

A resolution to reduce barriers to free trade and commerce.

Category: Free Trade

Strength: Strong

Proposed by: The United Kingdom of the Soviets

Description: The World Assembly,

DEFINES VAT Tax as: a consumption tax that is imposed on every step of production and at final sale;

ENCOURAGES the manufacture and sale of goods and services between nations;

RECOGNIZES that many lesser-developed nations are taken advantage of by corporations and other more-developed nations;

ESTABLISHES the World Assembly Commission for Fair Trade (WACFT) to aid both developing and developed nations in securing a fair global economy;

AUTHORIZES the WACFT to:

a) Investigate and put both developing and developed nations on trial when it is discovered that they are taking advantage of another nation;

b) Accept optional donations from willing nations to give to lesser-developed nations in the hopes that it will be used to improve their economy;

c) Investigate and, if found necessary, stop any of the WACFT donations from going to that nation if they are found to have an unfair import tax system;

NOTING that for most nations, a tax on imports is necessary to ensure their economy is competitive;

AFFIRMS the right of nations to impose a small VAT tax on imports;

LIMITS the WACFT to be able to do only what is stated in this resolution unless allowed by all nations involved during a trial;

REQUIRES the WACFT to hold a non-mandatory meeting for all member nations on the future of fair trade no less than once every 3 years;

Still looks like committee only.
Everything you know about me is wrong. Or a rumor. Something like that.

The Beard Act

A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: House Duke

Description: Beards are Glorious

The beard maketh the man. Without one, we are but young boys. We should ensure that our world is as manly as possible by requiring that all men over the age of 18 require a beard.

For women, mild applause will do fine.

I...I can't even...
While she had no regrets about throwing the lever to douse her husband's mistress in molten gold, Blanche did feel a pang of conscience for the innocent bystanders whose proximity had caused them to suffer gilt by association.

You know, we do toss around the "bloody stupid" label a little too liberally, but this one pretty much embodies the rule violation. On the other hand... guess I'm a young boy. 8)

It's also illegal because it doesn't have a operative clause.

The Local Level Education Act

A resolution to promote funding and the development of education and the arts.

Category: Education and Creativity

Area of Effect: Artistic

Proposed by: The Highland States

Description: This act will:
ENFORCE greater spending in forms of categorical grants to the local level Board of Education.
PROMOTE the overall communal morale in education by the increase in funding.
ENCOURAGE students to be more engaged in their local environment to promote the overall region.
PROMOTE the encourgment of building public/ private universities or colleges since the local communities will be more appreciative of the environment around them

This act will serve as a catalyst to serve the local communities more efficiently through the multiple local education boards. This act will also serve as a way to put more funding in the local education systems. The money given would be given in categorical grants so that the local board of education would not use the money in a frivolous manner.

WOW! Finally, something to tell all those local school boards how to do stuff since they are obviously too incompetent to do it all on their lonesome!

Also, doesn't do anything other than offer vacuous platitudes.

Yeah, cause it also stumbles on the "Description" thing, describing what the act would do, instead of saying what it does.

---------

Repeal "Nuclear Arms Possession Act"

A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.

Category: Repeal

Resolution: GA#10

Proposed by: Eutristan

Description: WA General Assembly Resolution #10: Nuclear Arms Possession Act (Category: International Security; Strength: Mild) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument:

Recognizing the fact that the Nuclear Arms Possession Act protects the sovereign right for Nations to attain a respectable nuclear defense system.

Realizing that the Nuclear Arms Possession Act does not fully protect all rights to weapons.

Astonished that it did not occur to our founders that proposals would continuously arise concerning other components than that of nuclear defense systems in national militaries.

Highlighting the fact that the Nuclear Arms Possession Act fails to thoroughly regulate the care, use, and security of these highly dangerous weapons.

Citing the dozens of proposals that have been constructed that would require degrading and destruction of military programs.

Recognizing that the facts that be at the time of the passing of the proposal have greatly changed.

Recounting that societies attitude toward such programs as those stated in the Nuclear Arms Possession Act have greatly changed as the world continues to encounter new problems.

Banning any proposal that jeopardizes the right to a nuclear weapon between the repealing of the Nuclear Arms Possession Act and the passing of a new and improved resolution.

Guaranteeing that although the Nuclear Arms Possession Act is repealed the right to nuclear weapons will be preserved.

This Act Hereby repeals the Nuclear Arms Possession Act.

Regulates in a repeal.

Repatriation Of Human Remains

A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights

Strength: Significant

Proposed by: The Naki

Description: Acknowledging the success of international tourism and the freedom of movement among many member nations for business and education;

Regretting that the worst can occur while individuals travel abroad, leaving their corporeal remains far from family and home;

Horrified that many nations do not accommodate the kin of travelers who need to recover their remains in a timely and reasonable fashion; and,

Forming, out of compassion, a solution to these barriers.

If they are "forming a solution" they appear to have neglected to mention what the hell that solution actually is.

Yeah, but there's a difference of having a proper Suggests clause and "suggests [to] Break The Barriers that restrict the free trade of the world" - that doesn't address the nations or the people living in them or even the businesses residing in them, while being a direct rip-off on the category description (actually, is that word-for-word copy?). Aka, "does nothing". And, I suspect, trips over the "Description" in the submission form.

Also "suggests [to] Gives people the right to trade as they wish" would seem to imply also allowing them to break laws while doing so, since "as they wish" could be read to allow them to avoid taxes and regulations to do with any transactions, nevermind letting tradeable items to be anything from pedophilic images to living sapient beings to restricted substances, financing crime, terrorists, unwanted neighbourhood watches, etc.

Pedantry aside the proposal itself whilst not written very well is not illegal, and thus should never have been posted in this thread in the first place. People seem to forget that not having a drafting thread does not automatically make a proposal illegal.
