Voting against, contradicting the views of AMOM with an ironic commendation would be the exact opposite of a commendation to him.

From what I've seen, that would be a fairly accurate assessment of their plan.

Every Commend/Condemn proposal, that is. Liberations are excluded, as Rule 4 doesn't apply to them.

Indeed. If anyone would like to bump that thread or make a new one in Technical, I'll be happy to join in. (I'd do it, but I bumped it the last time.) The original's over here:

------------

Two round eyes stared solemnly over the edge of the desk. Mommy Celine had said to stay right there until she got back. Christine d'Avignon wasn't sure she wanted to. "That's not Santa," she whispered, as a scary old man landed on the roof. She looked around to see if anyone else had noticed. "Not Santa," she said again with determination. "Bad man." Tiny fingers drifted over to a red button on the desk.

"Christine," said a voice in a warning tone - Mommy's aide, Mr. Burnoch. Christine stopped and glared at Mr. Burnoch, then put her hands in her lap, sighed loudly, and looked back at the desk.

A stack of papers sat in front of her, annotated in her mother's neat handwriting. Christine glanced sideways at Mr. Burnoch, then quietly pulled the top one off and looked at it. There were pictures. She liked pictures. Maybe Mommy liked pictures, too. Maybe Christine should draw some for her.

Christine picked up a pencil, but paused to chew on the end of it. Mommy had been in lots of meetings lately. She talked with Mr. Burnoch all the time about voting. She kept saying something about dirt, Christine thought. Stains. Normally Mommy didn't like stains, but these were special ones. These were Ab Stains. Mommy kept saying that Naivetry would have lots of Ab Stains from now on. Christine wasn't sure what Ab Stains were, but she was good at making normal stains, her mother told her. Maybe she should draw Mommy an Ab Stain.

Christine nodded to herself decisively and bent her head over her piece of paper, kicking her feet as she colored in shapes on the back of the page. She stuck her tongue out in concentration as she wrote in big letters at the top, A B S T A I N. for MommY. bY Christine, age 4. She admired her picture, a big graphite blob with the words written above it. It was a pretty Ab Stain. Christine smiled at it, and curled up to take a nap.

Everyone has their dark hours on here. People can and do recover. You will. And this really isn't about you anyway - unfortunately, you're more or less caught in the crossfire of this rule 4 debacle. This too shall pass.

And this another reason why we need this rule 4 stuff resolved very quickly.

Crossfire. People were aware of what they were doing when they submitted this and brought it to quorum. To the countless idiot lemmings, this is about me. I'm going to assume a shitload of them don't even know a thing about 3WB.

My "dark hours" here seem to come around rather often. Repeal Liberate The Security Council was bittersweet, Commend A mean old man #1 was absurd and humiliating, Commend Yelda was utterly disillusioning, all the Unibotian Commend A mean old man proposal-submitting was uncomfortable, and now this is just an utter shitfest, in which I am opened up to ridicule by hundreds of WA lemmings all around the world and in which the 10kI WAs, who have despised me from the beginning of my WA career for reasons I've never completely understood, are having a ball.

When it comes to commendations of myself, I have been nothing but the WASC's guinea pig, used to make a point or to set an example. Well, I've had enough of it, and will do everything within my power to remove any future commendations of myself from the queue, whether it is telegramming delegates or even going to the moderators with charges of griefing against the proposal writer.

AMOM, I may not agree with you on everything. In fact, I may disagree with you on many things. But I do think that you don't deserve to be used by certain individuals to pursue a political agenda. And those individuals owe you an apology.

Calm down, Nai. I'm not going to clobber people for politely expressed disagreement. Nor do I imagine I can make anyone vote in a particular way -- nor do I want to. But this thread is about whether AMOM should be commended. It's the official debate thread and it's insulting to the object of the commendation to turn it into something else. Since some of you apparently can't resist, I'm splitting the thread, and if the split topic degenerates into name-calling as earlier ones did, it, too, will be locked.

EDIT: Split commentary here.

(1) AMOM deserves a commendation. (2) I'm not a big fan of Rule IV. (3) I think the point has been made very clearly that some are unhappy with it. (4) I understand the importance of taking action to drive a point home in a way that words alone cannot.

However, I am not voting on this resolution at all, because it's a bloody farce. Given (1) I cannot support (4) despite (2). Maybe next time.

I am worried by some of the reasons cited in the Against camp. Certain individuals do not appear able to distinguish between a debate about procedure, and a debate about the merits of Commending this nation.

From what had been stated in the text of this proposed resolution, I see no reason not to cast Enn's vote FOR this. For some reason, my two supervisors have allowed me to vote however I wish in this chamber until further notice, while they argue about who's in charge as far as GA resolutions are concerned.

There is no doubt in my mind that AMON deserves a commendation. However, this whole thing is a big fat fustercluck! In fact C&C is a big fat fustercluck. I have to abstain on this *expletive deleted*.

After having finally met and conversed with AMOM, The West Pacific supports the Commendation of AMOM. However we are strong supporters of 3WB and do not support Rule 4. (Our forum is hosting a publicly visible discussion and gathering, if anyone is interested.)

TWP votes against this commendation, with sincerest apologies to AMOM.

You deserve a commend... no matter what, because you have done great things...
You can call me "Juris" for short. Also, you don't have to type my nation name in all caps either.
