[PASSED] Commend Suvmia

Postby Laudesia » Fri Aug 06, 2021 2:32 pm

Fourth and current Draft (In Progress)

The Security Council,

Recognizing that since the start of Suvmia’s international involvement in July 2017 with the founding of The United Nations of CASA, the nation has been focused on the betterment of the international community, even to such an extreme where they ignore their own nation in favor of focusing on others,

Celebrating Suvmia’s founding of The Ascendancy Federation (TAF) in January of 2018, creating the opportunity, one possibly unknown to the smaller communities in the fringes of the world, to garner more influence in international politics by uniting under a single organization, albeit far less renowned; TAF was a precursor to other multi-regional organizations such as The United Region Alliance (URA),

Highlighting Sumvia’s help in the creation of The United Ascendancy (TUA), a region founded by Princepterra a proxy of Laudesia, Suvmia, and Urrangslan, in 2019 the regions in TAF were on the verge of collapse due to an inactivity crisis, a multitude of nations were leaving or ceasing to exist ravishing the regional governments and communities, Suvmia’s assistance was paramount in stopping this by gathering these collapsing communities and giving them a larger, more stable, active, new region,

Further highlighting Suvmia’s roles as the first Minister of Foreign Affairs and second President of The United Ascendancy in 2019-2020, laying the foundation of foreign affairs in the region, by co-authoring the constitution, authoring the Embassy Policy, and spearheading recruitment efforts for the region to grow from only a few nations to just under 100,

Acknowledging Suvmia’s guidance in assisting new nations navigate the international political sphere, most notably World Assembly author and The Democratic Republic Delegate Orca and Narwhal, and other former members of the TUA’s government and URA’s Alliance Cabinet such as Adachi, and Ascanian,

Noting that even though The Ascendancy Federation and The United Ascendancy are now defunct, Suvmia’s actions do not go unnoticed, during these three years Suvmia has greatly impacted the nations that were in these organizations, helping teach and bring new nations together, these nations continue to benefit other regions and the world as a whole,

Lauding Suvmia’s two terms as President of The United Regions Alliance, where they overhauled the bureaucratic system by organizing URA information through an impressive system of interconnected dispatches, authoring several pieces of foundational legislation, including the first, and current URA constitution, without such structuring URA would not be one of the largest multiregional organizations in the world that it is today, with an impressive total of 27 member regions and 2800+ nations,

Further Lauding Suvmia’s assistance as President of URA in helping URA founder Ellenburg establish relations with The North Pacific (TNP) and The West Pacific, Suvmia took the lead with TNP talks co-authoring the Memorandum of Understanding between TNP and URA and assisting in the creation of the URA Halloween Festival and Anniversary Festival,

Astonished that even though Suvmia’s assistance was considered crucial by URA founder Ellenburg, by establishing international communication, furthering URA’s international presence, and establishing URA’s community as a whole, that Suvmia would later decline any involvement or just praise in an interview, taking themselves out of the limelight and ceding all credit to Ellenburg to ensure the passage of [resolution=SC#352]SC #352: Commend Ellenburg[/resolution],

Confident that Suvmia’s actions in region-building, mentoring fellow nations, and international relations are worthy of praise and commendation by this august council,

Hereby Commends Suvmia.

[DRAFT] Commend Suvmia

Postby Laudesia » Fri Aug 06, 2021 2:34 pm

This is my first proposal and forum post, so please let me know if I am doing something wrong. Any input on the above draft would also be greatly appreciated.

The Security Council,

Confident that Suvmia’s actions in region-building, assisting new nations, and international relations are worthy of praise and commendation by this august council,

Recognizing that since the start of Suvmia’s international involvement in July 2017 with the founding of The United Nations of CASA, the nation has been focused on the betterment of the international community, even to such an extreme where they ignore their own nation in favor of focusing on others,

Celebrating Suvmia’s founding of The Ascendancy Federation (TAF) in January of 2018, with the goal of increasing the collective influence of several smaller regions, albeit far less renowned, TAF was a precursor to other multiregional organizations such as The United Region Alliance (URA),

Highlighting Sumvia’s help in the creation of The United Ascendancy in 2019 as the successor of TAF, which gathered smaller inactive regions in TAF and gave them a larger more active community,

Further highlighting Suvmia’s roles as the first Minister of Foreign Affairs and second President of The United Ascendancy, laying the foundation of foreign affairs in the region, and spearheading efforts for the region to grow from only a few nations to just under 100,

Noting that even though The Ascendancy Federation and The United Ascendancy are now defunct, Suvmia’s actions do not go unnoticed, they greatly impacted the nations that were in these organizations, helping teach and bring new people together, these nations continue to benefiting other regions and the whole world as a whole,

Acknowledging Suvmia’s guidance in assisting new nations navigate the international political sphere while president of The United Ascendancy, notably world assembly author and The Democratic Republic delegate Orca and Narwhal and other former members of the URA’s Alliance Cabinet,

Lauding Suvmia’s work as the second President of The United Regions Alliance, where they overhauled the bureaucratic system by organizing URA information through an impressive system of interconnected dispatches, and authoring several pieces of legislation and both constitutions which continue to benefit URA and member regions to this day,

Further Lauding Suvmia’s assistance as President, helping URA founder Ellenburg establish relations with The North Pacific (TNP) by taking lead with talks and helping author the Memorandum of Understanding between TNP and URA, and helping create the URA Halloween festival and anniversary festival,

Believing that Suvmia has greatly benefited the regions and organizations they have taken part in, and the people in these regions that they have interacted with,

Herby Commends Suvmia.

I think it looks good for a first-time draft and first proposal. There are some wording and clauses I would rework and maybe add some BBCode with describing regions or nations. I have made a few grammar-related and a formatting code fix below for aesthetic reasons:

Looks nice at first sight. One comment though, you seem to have misspelt "Hereby" in the operative clause.

Ah, Herby at it again (to the OP: don't worry, this is a WA thing where a user called Herby is alerted to any proposal that says "Herby commends/condemn" or "Herby repeals". It's not a big deal, and this is why drafting is a big help).

This is a solid draft and I think a pretty swell nominee from the looks of it, but I haz some suggestions.

Confident that Suvmia’s actions in region-building, assisting new nations, and international relations are worthy of praise and commendation by this august council,

Recognizing that since the start of Suvmia’s international involvement in July 2017 with the founding of The United Nations of CASA, the nation has been focused on the betterment of the international community, even to such an extreme where they ignore their own nation in favor of focusing on others,
Both of these are fluff. You do need some fluff for narration and tying the proposal together but I feel two starting clauses is a bit too much, so I would suggest just deleting the 'confident' line. If you do want to keep that line in, I would suggest replacing the last 'believing' clause with it instead.

Celebrating Suvmia’s founding of The Ascendancy Federation (TAF) in January of 2018, with the goal of increasing the collective influence of several smaller regions, albeit far less renowned, TAF was a precursor to other multiregional organizations such as The United Region Alliance (URA),
Some things that pop into my mind:
- Change the comma after renowned to a semicolon, I think that's more grammatically correct but i could be wrong
- probably add a short descriptor to what the URA is so we can visualize just what the inspiration of TAF has done. Could be simple as "one of the largest modern alliances in NationStates with X regions as members" or smth like that.

Highlighting Sumvia’s help in the creation of The United Ascendancy in 2019 as the successor of TAF, which gathered smaller inactive regions in TAF and gave them a larger more active community,
How did Sumvia explicitly help in the creation of TUA?

Further highlighting Suvmia’s roles as the first Minister of Foreign Affairs and second President of The United Ascendancy, laying the foundation of foreign affairs in the region, and spearheading efforts for the region to grow from only a few nations to just under 100,
I think a good thing would be to specify what foundations Suvmia set. Was it guidance systems for diplomats? Did they form new relations (and if so, what are they)? What were the specific efforts Suvmia headed to grow said region to X amount of nations?

Noting that even though The Ascendancy Federation and The United Ascendancy are now defunct, Suvmia’s actions do not go unnoticed, they greatly impacted the nations that were in these organizations, helping teach and bring new people together, these nations continue to benefiting other regions and the whole world as a whole,
I would probably focus more on how the help TAF and TUA has helped their former members-which-were-regions thrive to today, versus individual nations. It's great that these organizations helped many individuals, but you can say that about a lot of regions and orgs, which is why I suggest focusing on the regional level instead as its more unique and the focus of this commend.

Acknowledging Suvmia’s guidance in assisting new nations navigate the international political sphere while president of The United Ascendancy, notably World Assembly author and The Democratic Republic delegate Orca and Narwhal and other former members of the URA’s Alliance Cabinet,
Probably would mention more names here. Would also shift this clause before the previous clause, to keep TUA Presidency stuff together.

Lauding Suvmia’s work as the second President of The United Regions Alliance, where they overhauled the bureaucratic system by organizing URA information through an impressive system of interconnected dispatches, and authoring several pieces of legislation and both constitutions which continue to benefit URA and member regions to this day,
This is great. Main question is what does "both constitutions" mean? Is the URA on its second constitution? If so, it'd be best to make that more clear.

***

I think the main thing is that you have a lot of room to specify on things that you've kept generally broad. You have at least 2k characters to go, so you have a lot of space to work with and explore deeper into what Suvmia has done in NS. Definetly something solid to work off though, great job on that ^-^

I think you should be good on your character count; without BBCode, you have 3038, but make sure you don't go over the 5000 limit if you wish to add more to your draft, which you definitely can do.

I looked at the nominee from a first glance and they played a big role with the URA, which is a big accomplishment in terms of regional gameplay.

I was hoping that my proposal would do that, Ellenburg and Suvmia have both accomplished a lot together in URA however only Ellenburg has been commended thus far, I hope my proposal passes and I can change this.

I definitely agree that Suvmia is a commendable nominee, especially with the work they've done in the URA.

On first look, doesn't feel right that most of the proposal is concerned with work done in now-defunct regions which haven't been particularly notable during their existence. And the mention of TNP in the second last clause feels like a cheap "look they got relations with a big region" without going into any benefits from the relationship.

Back again

Celebrating Suvmia’s founding of The Ascendancy Federation (TAF) in January of 2018, with the goal of increasing the collective influence of several smaller regions, albeit far less renowned; TAF was a precursor to other multi-regional organizations such as The United Region Alliance (URA), one of the largest multi-regional organizations in the world with an impressive total of 23 member regions and 2767 nations as of today,
Maybe mention if Suvmia did anything for the TAF beyond founding it?

Highlighting Sumvia’s help in the creation of The United Ascendancy, a region founded by Princepterra, a proxy of Laudesia, Suvmia, and Urrangslan, in 2019 as the successor of TAF which gathered smaller inactive regions in TAF and gave them a larger more active community,
I think one question that could be answered here is why did TUA have to be founded? Helps with the narrative.

Lauding Suvmia’s two terms as President of The United Regions Alliance, where they overhauled the bureaucratic system by organizing URA information through an impressive system of interconnected dispatches, and authoring several foundational pieces of legislation, including the first and second (or current) URA Charter- legislation that continues to benefit URA and member regions to this day,

Further Lauding Suvmia’s assistance as President of URA, helping URA founder Ellenburg establish relations with The North Pacific (TNP) by taking the lead with talks and helping author the Memorandum of Understanding between TNP and URA, and assisting in the creation of the URA Halloween Festival and Anniversary Festival, even going as far to later refuse to take any credit for all this when interviewed to insure that Ellenburg was awarded their commendation in May of 2021,
Made some wording suggestions to these clauses.

Is there anything else Suvmia did notably as President? If so, should be mentioned. Would also heed Gor's advice about the TNP relations- explaining the impact TNP-URA relations had on the URA would be good.
Maybe I want someone to remember me, even only a little. Living means someone knows you and remembers you.

Zukchiva thank you for your input again! Your suggestions are clearly starting to show on my proposal, and I feel as though it is becoming more polished every time. I took both of the above comments into account and revised today's draft, please do let me know if you have any more criticism.

I've put the draft in last call, any more constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated before I submit it. I plan on actually submitting in a week from now.

I have been active within the URA for around a year and a half, including over a year in the URA Cabinet. Since the beginning, even before my time, Suvmia was a major leader in the Alliance. Serving one term as VP and two as President, his impact on the organization is second only to founder Ellenburg. When he was sworn in as President in August 2020, the URA was a small and relatively obscure grouping of regions. When he left office in August 2021, the Alliance had developed immensely, in both size and community. Take, for instance, the new constitution (singehandedly written by, you guessed it, Suvmia). Now, regional delegates are mandated to vote alongside URA recommendations, which are published for all to see. In June 2020 our recommendations were non-easily ignored, sentence-long blurbs easily ignored by member regions. Indeed, the URA is no longer such a loose association. Under the guidance of Suvmia, the URA has become a strong coalition of WA partners both big and small. It is no mistake that his governance saw the signing of two treaties with major regions TNP and TWP; the growth of the URA was recognizable both within and outside the Alliance. Suvmia also authored numerous important pieces of legislation within the URA, including reform to the structure of the Alliance government.

Suvmia has been a friend and mentor to many, myself included. I am honoured to have served with him over the past year and a half, and I wholeheartedly support this commendation for his excellency in leadership.
