Fair enough there.

A Condemnation is a resolution to express shock and dismay at a nation or region.

Sure, but this Condemn is meant as a reward for NB’s hard work with having so many extraordinary stats. Because of this, it should be confirmed whether they would be okay with being Condemned, or else it is a waste of time to even try to pass this resolution.

Doing so would be incredibly unviable in the circumstances.

I agree with Tin on this. There are only a handful of situations where I’m not adamantly for getting nominee’s consent. A nominee where a draft exists who is at risk of CTE is one of those where I personally can give a green light.

I think I'll be abstaining on this and retract my previous support -- if NB is about to CTE, sure, but if he revives and wants it repealed -- or opposed while it's at vote -- it should be.

This was Proposal-A-Go-Go 22 hours ago and is now in queue. It will go to vote between the minor updates of Friday 29th July and Tuesday 2nd August. The full text of the campaign telegram is below:
Greetings, Delegate. Please approve my proposal to Condemn Northern Borland.

Northern Borland is perhaps the most relentlessly profit-driven nation in the world, with the government focused on throwing money at highly powerful industries. Obesity, crime and child labour run rampant.

In a desperate attempt to cover for their reputation, Northern Borland's leadership has fabricated three satellite states: one grounded in piety, another in regulatory socialism and a third in simple dictatorship.

It is clear that Northern Borland's economic, social, and governmental policies have proven disastrous for themselves and others. They are therefore highly worthy of Condemnation.

This is the last chance we have to Condemn Northern Borland. Don't waste it: approve my proposal today.

Thank you,
The Self-Administrative City of Tinhampton

If I recall, C/Cs can still pass even after the nation has ceased to exist.

That being said, it is a tremendous shame that Northern Borland has CTE'd. They were truly a stats powerhouse and their presence shall be missed. I will be voting for, to commemorate their accomplishments, and I encourage you all to do so as well.

Today, the government offices of Morover shall fly the Northern Borlandian flag, and shall play their national anthem at 16:00 sharp.

My understanding is exactly the opposite - a nation has to exist to receive a C&C.

I think it was stated before by Sedge that the nation only has to exist long enough to be targeted by the resolution, and the resolution can pass and be in effect even if it CTEs before the proposal passes.

So, if I’m not mistaken, that seems to be proof that NB was opposed to the last attempt to Condemn them. Why is it a good idea to go through with this proposal now, when there is a very large chance the player you wish to memorialize would be against this?

When I TGed Northern Borland a couple of years ago about my very first draft of the Condemn, he replied that he was opposed to stat-based C&Cs on principle (not just for Northern Borland), preferring that they be aimed at those "actively participating in harm or good to the larger NS community." While I definitely wouldn't say that all of my draft is about NB's answering of issues, I believe his success in this sphere to be substantial enough to warrant recognition (as Bormiar did Kindjal's).

I will note that throughout drafting of Commend Northern Borland, he didn't respond to either of my two telegrams informing them of the draft. It's possible that they changed their mind on the matter.

In any case, given that the commendation was repealed because people thought a condemnation was more suitable, this should pass.

Further worth noting:

Tzo was apparently fine with a Commend when Eastern New England asked to Commend them, according to this thread.

I would be hesitant to vote against on the disputed assumption that the nominee doesn't want it, especially if you would had voted for otherwise.

Correct. The resolution can still pass; I can't remember if it successfully applies the badge to a CTEd nation, or if a GM will have to apply it manually; I suspect the latter.

OOC: I’m not a member of the WA but I know that the SC gives those little badges to nations/regions who were condemned, liberated, or commended. How can you give one of those badges to a CTE’d nation? Since I believe Northern Borland received one of those condemning badges already, but I checked the Boneyard and couldn’t see the badge. Anyone know? I know Sedgistan is looking…

Northern Borland was commended last year but it was repealed shortly thereafter.
