[PASSED] Commend Singapore no2

Postby Honeydewistania » Tue Dec 01, 2020 11:40 pm

Observing that national leaders constantly face a barrage of dilemmas where they have to make prompt decisions to resolve, lest their nation dissolve into complete chaos,

Recognising the many nations that dedicate countless hours into assisting these leaders in resolving issues by presenting several options,

Praising one such helpful nation, Singapore no2, for hitting the ground running with their unyielding efforts in aiding national leaders in resolving multiple international foreign affairs conflicts,

Extolling Singapore no2 for helping to resolve a dispute instigated by aggressive archipelagic nation Macronesia, ‘Affirmative Election?’, where ethnic Macronesians picketed outside government offices to protest the lack of ethnic minorities in national governments. Singapore no2ean diplomats helped to bring forth all of the protesters' demands in a clear way which paved the way for national leaders to quickly make a decision and be able to return to grocery shopping,

Applauding Singapore no2 for the way they dealt with the international incident ‘Externalities Palmed Off’, where a thick smog engulfed a group of coastal nations due to a developing country (later revealed to be Macronesia) burning large amounts of forests for land. Singapore no2 assembled a team of their top meteorologists to examine weather patterns, and from that data they presented several options for nations to deal with the issue, such as applying diplomatic pressure or building a protective dome around the country. This intervention likely saved billions of citizens from lung disease,

Noting that these incidents were still not the end of Macronesia’s hostility, nor were they the end of Singapore no2 attempting to stop these antics. In the event dubbed ‘A Plank Too Far’, Macronesian ministers declared that pirates in several nations were plundering their ships and pledged to sink any foreign vessel that entered their waters, disrupting maritime trade. Singapore no2ean diplomats once again convened to facilitate international peace negotiations between the swashbuckling sea dogs and Macronesian officials, pacifying the situation,

Appreciating Singapore no2 for interceding in the dispute between nations and Macronesian durian farmers during the event dubbed ‘Putrid Predicament’, where Macronesian durians (and their pungency) flooded public transport in foreign nations, causing people to suffocate. Singapore no2ean food critics mediated the situation by conducting a smell test on the durians and determining the best course of action nations should take regarding the situation,

Thanking Singapore no2 for not only helping nations deal with Macronesia, but also for their efforts in protecting nations from the belligerent nation Bigtopia during the crisis ‘A Blast from the Past’, who had attempted to exploit nations by offering to deactivate landmines which were deployed due to their previous warmongering actions. Singapore no2ean weapons enthusiasts (who had previously resolved an issue involving 3D-printed firearms) offered national leaders a variety of other options they could choose to be rid of the landmines, preventing more innocent children from exploding,

Lauding Singapore no2 for their quick thinking in preventing nations from being extorted for their money by economic superpower Dàguó after a clumsy advisor accidentally shattered a priceless artefact in the event dubbed ‘Like a Bull in a Dàguó Shop’. Singapore no2ean weapons enthusiasts examined the viability of the situation and recommended that a duel between the advisor and the emperor could best resolve the situation, preventing nations from losing millions of their currency or facing sanctions,

Recognising that in addition to these large scale crises, Singapore no2 has also successfully resolved 22 other issues, ranging from abuse of shared property ('A Problem Shared') to the dangers of prehistoric zoos ('Who Let The Dinos Out?'),

Noticing that Singapore no2 successfully resolved such a large amount of issues in an astoundingly short period of time that they were internationally recognised as one of the most prolific issues solvers in the world, no easy feat,

Revering the wisdom (and humour) possessed by the official representatives of Singapore no2 during their engagements with the international community, making sure that other international problems can be solved in a clear manner,

Applauding Singapore no2 for their non-issues related contributions, such as securing their vulnerable and previously invaded region Singapore from foreign invasion by utilising security measures such as passwords while still allowing new nations to join the region (a system similar to the commended region Hell), and

Convinced that Singapore no2 has broken the mould and has undeniably made the world a better place through their actions, and deserve to be commended by this body,

The Security Council hereby commends Singapore no2.

The Security Council:

Observing that national leaders constantly face a barrage of issues and dilemmas where they have to make prompt decisions to resolve, lest their nation dissolve into complete chaos,

Recognising the many nations that dedicate countless hours into assisting these leaders in resolving issues by presenting several options, and that the most helpful of these nations have been commended by this body via previously passed resolutions,

Praising one such nation, Singapore no2, for hitting the ground running with their unyielding efforts in aiding national leaders in resolving no less than twenty eight issues of varying importance,

Applauding Singapore no2's dedication to peacekeeping by assisting leaders in international incidents, such as nations' spats with Bigtopia over the deactivation of landmines ('A Blast from The Past'), the aftermath of the destruction of a treasured Dàguó artefact by one of your clumsy advisors ('Like a Bull in a Dàguó Shop'), and haze befalling nations due to large scale torching of forests overseas ('Externalities Palmed Off'),

Appreciating Singapore no2 for also helping to keep nations peaceful internally due to their dedication to addressing issues relating to law and order, such as the counterfeiting of national currency ('How to Print Money?'), the manufacturing of firearms using 3D printing technology to commit nefarious crimes ('The Prints and The Slaughter'), and swashbuckling, rum swilling, and cutlass wielding pirates terrorising martitime traders ('A Plank Too Far'),

Thanking Singapore no2 for taking large amounts of time to ensure that political issues plaguing nations could be resolved, such as people gaining advantage in elections due to ethnicity ('Affirmative Election?'), bribery through large amounts of fruit baskets and other organic produce ('The Forbidden Fruit'), and dual citizens being elected in nations where only native-born politicians may take office ('No Two Ways About It),

Extolling Singapore no2 for helping an uncountable amount of nations with the social issues scourging their nations, such as assisting the disabled in their day-to-day activities ('Ramping Up the Difficulty'), the abuse of shared property by inconsiderate citizens ('A Problem Shared'), and the incalculable danger durians pose to the functioning of society as a whole due to their pungence ('Putrid Predicament'),

Noticing that the magnitude of the issues resolved by Singapore no2 was so high and achieved in such a small amount of time that they were recognised as one of the most prolific issues solvers in the world, no easy feat,

Revering the wisdom (and humour) possessed by the official representatives of Singapore no2 during their engagements with the international community, making sure that other international problems can be solved in a clear manner,

Applauding Singapore no2 for their non-issues related contributions, such as securing their vulnerable region Singapore from foreign invasion as well as recruiting new nations through their position as Secretary of State, and

Convinced that Singapore no2 has broken the mould and has undeniably made the world a better place through their actions, and deserve to be commended by this body,

Commends Singapore no2.

The Security Council,

Observing that national leaders constantly face a barrage of issues and dilemmas where they have to make prompt decisions to resolve, lest their nation dissolve into complete chaos,

Recognising the many nations that dedicate countless hours into assisting these leaders in resolving issues by presenting several options, and that the most helpful of these nations have been previously commended by this body,

Presenting the nation Singapore no2, one such nation that has aided national leaders in no less than twenty eight issues of varying importance,

Praising Singapore no2 for their efforts in this area, helping to resolve the following issues:
  • the treatment of disabled people in society (‘Ramping Up The Difficulty’),
  • the large scale counterfeiting of national currency (‘How To Print Money’),
  • the usage of 3D printing technology to manufacture firearms (‘The Prints And The Slaughter’),
  • dormant landmines and the danger they pose to innocent citizens (‘A Blast From The Past’),
  • the epidemic of pirates within nations that slowed down maritime trade (‘A Plank Too Far’),
  • whether strict border control measures should be placed during a pandemic (‘Borderline Pandemic’),
  • the severe manpower shortage as a result of mass conscription (‘The Bottom Of the Gun Barrel’),
  • the decline in the popularity of state-controlled press (‘The State Of The Media’),
  • the surge in the online registration of joke patents (‘Patent Nonsense’),

Noticing that the magnitude of the issues resolved by Singapore no2 was so high and achieved in such a small amount of time that they were recognised as one of the most prolific issues solvers in the world, no easy feat,

Revering the wisdom (and humour) possessed by the official representatives of Singapore no2 during their engagements with the international community, making sure that other international problems can be solved in a clear manner,

Convinced that Singapore no2 has undeniably made the world a better place through their actions, and deserve to be commended by this body, hereby:

Commends Singapore no2.

I don't see any typos or grammatical errors but I'm sure Star or BBD will be along to correct me if I missed something. :P

The nominee is definitely deserving and I would support a commendation of them. The resolution is well-written too. However, for some reason, the resolution just doesn't excite me... I'll still support it as written but it feels a bit deja vu.

So you convinced them to revive their nation to immediately commend them? Smh filthy badge hunter

Support though, as they have definitely made a notable contribution to the game and they have the number 2 in their nation name.

I see one thing.

Capitalize those sub-clauses in the “Praising” clause. (I assume they mention issues they’ve authored, but it doesn’t really matter.)

Pretty much the same as Praetor’s. Nicely written etc., but still a bit of we’ve been here before haven’t we. Will probably still support though.

Grrrr at the way this was done. Anyways, thinking aloud here, but is referring to issues as “issues” allowed?

Also, minor quibble, but I don’t particularly like “Utterly convinced”, it feels kind of like saying “this should be obvious”. I’d just go with “Convinced”.

Misspelled "disabled"

Seems kinda listy right now but I'd honestly probably vote for even now. Singno2 is the second most published non-editor author, well, apart from Max.

Max technically edited issues 31-39, and anyways Chan Island has 32 when you count on both nations. :P

If anyone has suggestions to make it more interesting and less like a laundry list, please lmk!

I think I share the opinion of most folks in this thread, it just feels very very dry. Notably I prefer more narrative in resolutions, but even without that, this really reads so much like a list(I mean there’s literally a long list in the middle) and not much other than a list. I admit I don’t know much about the nominee in question, but I just feel like there could’ve been some more substantial changes made in a direction that would combat that dryness before it was submitted.

I agree that this is a laundry list, but it is necessary considering the nature of the achievements. Resolutions such as Commend Candensia and Nation of Quebec are written in similar manners. I really did not want to use the whole 'operation this, mission that' bollocks as that is getting tired and overused as well.

The first iteration of this proposal was submitted by Saint Ives and Truro (aka Honeydewistania), and was withdrawn at 16:52 GMT today - approximately eight minutes before it was due to be voted on.

I support this new draft as it stands.

I'm still really lukewarm on this. The formatting of the ordered lists is gone, but the commendation is still essentially a list of lists. I don't think issue-based SC stuff has to be so dry, especially with this much to draw on; you could take several of them and string together a narrative, or further characterize either certain issues or the target's actions in addressing them. Just saying "This user has authored the following twenty-eight issues," that's a commendable action presented in the absolute driest sense.
