As I said in the thread that got locked, I will offer no support for this resolution, as a video and a tweet are nowhere near enough for a condemnation, even with their accidental ramifications.

There is talk of a second Drew video, which will likely respond to this issue in some capacity. There is a distinct, but unlikely possibility that something condemnable will arise from that. Still, for the time being no.

Partially agree - it is a very well written proposal. But then AMOM has authored 9 (?) SC resolutions previously, so one would expect the quality. It's also quite humorous.

Agreed entirely. Especially as prior architects of booms both accidental and deliberate (Kleo comes to mind) didn't get SC recognition. I'll be voting for as beautiful resolutions are worth it, and I'm thinking the SC's standards for nominees should be lower than it currently is.

But for real, I don't really see a need to condemn or commend Druuu. I'm probably biased in this case since I joined from Drew's video, but I feel like most of these condemn proposals were written nations are from people who are salty because of the success of the website. Furthermore, these condemn proposals basically boil down to. "Drew got a bunch of people to join NationStates, this is bad because they are noobs." which is some backward logic.

I enjoyed the premise to this Condemnation but its a shame the draft couldn't have been improved here as I think the quality tapers off later in the proposal

I am sure some people will continue to get high and mighty about a flash in the pan player getting a badge they treat like gold, but this is a fun and well envisaged way of marking a notable event in NS at a time when those are few and far between. The proposal stands tall amongst a crowd of rather awful attempts to do the same.

It's the best of a bad bunch, but it's still in a bad bunch... The proposal is well written and gets around R4 creatively but that doesn't change the fact that:

1. Server lag wasn't Deruuu's fault
2. the SC is srs bsns and proposals like this delay Liberate Asia or Commend DGES
3. what happens if more come? Will you condemn the next redditor who makes a post about NS?
4. in two months, the vast majority of the flood nations will CTE and in two years, this will all be forgotten. Remember "the last great reddit flood?" Me neither.
5. if it really is as "noteworthy" as you say it is, there's a significant likelihood that it will be immortalised in a News post, which is infinitely better

FWIW I don't think the flood is bad - more activity is a good thing, regardless of how short-lived it is. However, I don't think condemning Deruuu (or commending, for that matter) is a good idea for the reasons I listed above.

I totally agree, lots of folks are more worthy or simply lack the popularity to get it, but that's kinda my point, how can we allow this to be a new standard? That if your famous/have a large social media following and spend all of 5 mins you get rewarded over those who have put real effort into this game. It just really lowers the bar in effort and opens a door for celebrities (using the term loosely) to get an instant badge for next to nothing.

We'll see how the vote goes, I can't see this passing, but i'm surprised by some who choose to support it.
