This draft passes my three “wells” test: well written, well researched and well presented. :)

You have produced a compelling case for Commendation - nicely done.

I don't post much in the SC, but as someone who watches NS Sports from afar with great interest, especially the World Cup, Audio is fully deserving of a commend and I must say the proposal is also very well written

Newmanistan wrote:I like Audioslavia, and support his commendation. These are suggestions to get the general community to vote for him, rather then have a good resolution to submit.

This part I don't care for:
"pioneering the usage of the Kontrapuntzeka (counterpunch) strategy, used by 1830 Cathair in their Champions Cup and Super Cup victories, the former premier tournaments in club football;"

This implies, through the usage of the word pioneering, that he was the first person ever to use what is really a pretty basic strategy in the sport. Perhaps it could be improved, or simply omitted as there is plenty of other positive information here.

Secondly, this phrase, should be improved:
"winning two World Cups, the 63rd and 64th editions, with seven runners-up, tying with The Holy Empire in having the most appearances at World Cup Finals;"
In other words, he is 2-7 in the World Cup finals. We all love to pick on him for that. I would ask to consider leaving this as simply saying he is tied with The Holy Empire for most appearances in the World Cup Finals, which actually speaks better of the accomplishment other then making people wonder why we are commending a seven-time loser.

I've deleted the counterpunch reference, I do agree, it is a bit obscure, and moved club football references into one consolidated dot point.

On balance, I've decided to stick to the 7 runners-up reference. I think it would be doing a disservice to not mention how many times Audio has reached the final, and people generally recognise that getting to the World Cup Final is itself a feat given that Audios tied with one other nation in appearances.

Thanks to everyone else for their support :)

When I read this the first time, I thought that at each of the two World Cups they won, there were seven runners-up! Although it's a very minor change, I think saying "with seven runner-up finishes" might work better. A "runner-up" is a team that finishes in second place, and not the act of finishing in second place.

I've edited it slightly so that it reads:

"winning two World Cups, the 63rd and 64th editions, with a further seven runner-up finishes, tying with The Holy Empire in having the most appearances at World Cup Finals;"

I've included drafting improvements and a list of sources/references in support for the commendation.

Would this be the type of SC resolution that requires a telegram campaign? I plan to submit in the next fortnight...

It is very rare indeed that something can manage to get to quorum/vote without a telegram campaign.

My support remains.

RE telegram campaigns: Please do send out one if you want this to get to quorum. There was a time about eight years ago when it was possible to get something to queue without a campaign - viz. Clean Prostitute Act - but those days are gone and you do need to campaign now (properly tagged of course ;)) see LD above

Can someone tell me how “infamously” winning a tournament is a good thing? This gives the impression they won a tournament they shouldn’t have been in.

Read that sentence again. No, not yours.

Hey! I'm the nation that Audioslavia beat in the final of that Baptism of Fire, and I can assure you it was all in good fun. The entry into the tournament was entirely legal, though you could describe it as a 'loophole.' But his presence there--and the great times I had RPing alongside him--are a big reason why I didn't fall off NS Sports after a few months, and instead have stuck around with the community for going on nine years now. Even if I still give him flak for that every once in a while :P

Audio is without a doubt a pillar of the community and is fully deserving this recognition. (My sig may out me as biased, but still!)

Other than entry into the tournament, Audioslavia had no other advantages, the nation had no ranking by the time Audioslavia entered the Baptism of Fire. For the record the "loophole" is known, but still has not been fixed by the wider-WC community.

While we are here, I would like to plug Audioslavia's The Idiot Project - based on SB Nation's Chart Party, it is one of the best examples of roleplaying on the NS Sports forum. It is extensively well-researched and documents the fifteen+ year history of the subforum stretching back to the pre-Jolt days.

I haven't posted in this thread before, figuring I'd jinx it and stop it from going to vote, but now that it's being voted on I'd like to say a big thank you and an aw shucks to Electrum and Kuriko for putting all the hard work in. It's a very nice thing to do.

With World Cup 85 is about to start, I have some very cool avenues open for how to incorporate this SC vote into a Jeremy Jaffacake RP, whether or not it passes...

The loophole is this: The Baptism of Fire tournament was created in 2003 as a tournament for new nations. To enter the Baptism of Fire tournament, your team has to tick the following boxes:
  • Never played in a Baptism of Fire tournament before
  • Doesn't have a world ranking

Audioslavia ticked both boxes, as our first World Cup had been before the BoF had been created and our world ranking had reduced to zero during a long hiatus from 2007 to 2012. The letter of the law? Yep. The spirit of the law? loldepends  . It wasn't an unheard of thing to do, and I had no solid advantage in that tournament. Everyone started with a rank of zero. Still: worthy of the title 'infamous' :D

It gives Kelssek great pleasure to add our vote in favour of this commendation. Audioslavia's contributions to the international community and the sporting world are truly a paragon to behold, and overflowing with biscuit-sized cake. Rarely has recognition in this form been more richly deserved. Our thanks to the Electrum delegation for bringing this matter to the Security Council.
