This is simply appalling; we already had low expectations of the SC as a whole, but this is a new low.

This attempt at patting oneself on the back disguised as a liberation effort, there are no words for it. What worries me even more is the region this came from, it is worrying to see what has become of The East Pacific. This fall from from grace is indeed a disgrace and I don't see it becoming any better, sadly.

What a goddamned waste of the SC's time. Ordered my delegate to vote against, not that my region is particularly impactful in that regard. I should probably start an endorsement programme...

"Asserting..." clause

Postby Kashyyyyyyyk » Tue Mar 03, 2020 7:18 pm

Honestly, if Marrabuk hadn't included the "Asserting..." clause, it would seem more legit. This is one of the main reasons for my "against" vote.

If this is a joke and the East Pacific is just chilling, then congrats, you've finessed the SC into a frenzy. If not, then actual bruh moment because that's just mean to your region's member nations.

Also, doesn't this imply a kind of condemnation against Marrabuk?

Finally, does anyone know what Violet is referring to?

Thanks for reading my TED talk

It could also be referring to the admin [violet], which is probably who that religion in those issues is referencing, the same way Maxtopia was an actual nation.

Unsurprisingly, this proposal is losing. I'm honestly kind of surprised that this actually made to quorum, but it might be a bit late to say that. :p Oh well, you can get anything to quorum these days with enough TG stamps.

The good but unwholesome Senator Sulla perks up and has been watching the debate with malicious glee. Finally he speaks into his mic,

"You lucky bastards! I wish I could just sit around and listen to me talk all day. After listening to this discussion and hearing the disgust and distaste from the SC regulars, I've decided that there must be merit to this fine piece of liberation. Therefore I will be casting mine and the AO's votes in favor of this liberation. I have also encouraged regional members to do the same. Cheers!"

The old reprobate then fires up a fine Yeldan Cigar(tm), leans back in his chair while putting his feet on the table, and procedes to read the March issue of Juggs.

The proposal needs to elaborate on the specific offenses committed by TEP and its delegate. Otherwise, it's a waste of our time and should be shot down.

The popular vote is still For. It's the delegate vote (which should be abolished) which is swinging it to Against

It saddens me to see fellow players being so uptight and deigning this proposal as not "worth their time." The SC is a big joke anyway, being a popularity contest decided by a handful of large regions.

The vote is probably going to fail, and that's unfortunate, but fine. TEP has been liberated once, and unlike what AC has said, most of TEP is totally fine with this proposal.

Humor has been a big part of WA Resolutions in the past and it's frankly hypocritical for some to hold themselves and the SC to a higher standard when such resolutions exist.

I'm sorry you had to hear this here, but the WA would prefer to take itself seriously and not get their time wasted with jokey-joke-haha-so-funny proposals that are nothing but drivel in text form (in fact, the How To Play section of the NS website explicitly discourages bad/garbagepost-y proposals.)

Just because joke proposals have happened doesn't mean the entire assembly should immediately lower their standards for every proposal forthwith. That kills player discussion when you can dismiss everything with "lol it's just a joke bro."

And please, can you name one joke WA proposal that passed? I'll be waiting here for it.

A joke is different from satire. It's close, but it's different. Namely, this is satirical in that it's self-deprecating, and there is a criticism that is within the resolution.

Just because it is the prescribed way to play does not mean it is the only way to play. The game would get boring very quickly.

The resolution I had in mind was Commend Haiku. I think it's a very wholesome resolution (please don't repeal), but it's not a very serious one. In addition, the evolution of the SC to giving badges to players and offensive liberations is a large deviation from what its stated purpose is, this making it a joke among most NSers.

Okay yeah, that haiku one is pretty funny, and your other points are pretty good, so I concede on that front; but my point is that I wish it weren't a joke, at least, not so publicly that stuff like this can get through quorum undetected. NS should be funny, obviously; I couldn't imagine a non-satirical NS, but it still baffles me that 68 people approved it without seeing the irony. Or maybe I just have no sense of humor, I dunno.

Could I see that orange julius one? That sounds hilarious.

Albennia wrote:"Everyone who doesn't vote the way I like is a lemming"

No, it's because this pretty blatant joke proposal:

1) Got through GenSec (granted, it is technically legal)
2) Had 68 individual delegates approve it
3) Then reached the voting floor, where it had a pretty big For margin at the start.

Generalizations help no one and are a terrible way to boost your argument.
