Sure, it demonstrated a temper. Let’s keep in mind though these votes are an evaluation of Cormac’s record. If anyone were to take something personally I would expect it to be the nominee.

Let’s remember what these resolutions are supposed to be about. Not everyone that is commended is an ideal personality chiseled out of alabaster. The unifying purpose of the category is to recognize people who contribute in an outstanding way to NS. I think we like to idealize people but the reality is we don’t always choose our founders, our heroes, and our community leaders - they choose to lead or have leadership thrust upon them by events. The people who make a difference deserve recognition by virtue of that initiative.

I do hope that there is an effort to reassess the original text soon.

As someone who has been the focus of Cormac’s wrath at times, I’m still persuaded to think he’s passionate and honest about what he believes in.

He's passionate about his supremacy over process and opinion. He has neither in this instance and he threw a temper tantrum because of it. This is what he does. It's probably why people keep voting these down. Regardless of how you sugarcoat his career everybody knows his MO. He rants and raves and he shouts people down. He is a zero-sum negotiator. He is not reasonable in debate or discussion nor otherwise pleasant to deal with and people don't want to reward him for being a terror.

Critiquing a nominee (the job of voters) is not the same thing as saying you’re disgusted by all of gameplay and the SC because they won’t give you a commendation.

The Church of Satan wrote:Unibot is right. It's a god damn disappointment really that neither proposal passed. To be honest both really should have passed. I know that coming from me it means immeasurably less than nothing to Cormac, but he's earned both several times over. And nobody likes to see their contributions dismissed. Especially over politics when merit demands the recognition.

Negative. Its democracy in action; he deserves to be on the whitelist for the cruelties inflicted upon other nations, making amends, not getting shiny things. I would be pleased, despite my lack of respect for the nation targeted for two shiny things, to help this nation to make amends to all those offended.

Of course, if Church of Satan is disappointed, I suppose you could make the target nation a Gold, or rather a Black, (oh wait both) stars and mail it to them to hang in their trophy room.

Seriously, the aspersion that popularity defeated Cormac is hilarious, as he has been a puppet of the Gameplay community for 3 years now. This is just typical tantrum behavior by the usual folks making the usual noises. Take your bow, and exit stage right, or left, or whatever. Maybe we should all give The Black Hawks a third condemnation instead? Will that make everyone happy again?

I've long been for a C&C for Cormac. Seems I've even been quoted in a document giving my support for it, so thanks for that. I do love some exposure for myself.

Still, the way these have gone have been an absolute insult to a player who has done far more on this game than the vast majority of those sanctimoniously sitting back and voting it down. Never have I seen someone so deserving shot down so far. You lot have some reflecting to do, if we are to claim these badges go to players who deserve them. We base the legitimacy of these things on that. When questioned about why we as a community have near absolute control over who gets these things, we point to how we've happily voted through deserving people from other sub-communities within the game, acting to ensure that those who have contributed see a reward. How can we claim to be legitimate gatekeepers for this shit if we refuse to recognise our own for his years of devotion?

Cormac might not be popular with you lot, but can many of you really sit here and say you've done anything close to what he has? Some of you with badges of your own, even. Have some goddamned honour.

Oh, and shut up DC.

Politics being used in an online political game? Oh the horror.

Cormac's humorous outburst was what I was expecting the moment these two proposals were introduced. Happy to not be disappointed.

Cormac, a puppet? Hahahaha! You flower child, you've let your personal goals towards that awful whitelist campaign cloud your already poor judgment! Cormac isn't blacklisted either so that (still awful) campaign of yours doesn't even remotely apply. He's just a stubborn bastard (honestly meant as a term of endearment) that does what he wants, when he wants absolutely anywhere he wants. He does it well too given how much he has proven himself capable of. His attitude may not be all that popular but it doesn't make his contributions to NS any less deserving of recognition by the WA. If you think you have the means or skills to help him, you've overestimated yourself and drastically underestimated Cormac.

As for your suggestion to shut up, I decline. Mayhap someone "so deserving" is not, in fact, protected by these "legitimate gatekeepers". In fact, I find the vast majority of nations involved in Gameplay to be illegitimate sycophantic shiny seekers, muttering the mantras of the moment. This is not a R vs D thing, its not a feeder vs UCR thing, its recognizing fools gold for the paperweight it is. If that brings out negativity for you "Josh" (not doxing, just using the short form of his nations name, for clarifications sake) then I suggest you and Satan get together, light some candles, and make those shiny stars for the nominated nation together. Or, you know, maybe get a decent proposal put together?

Didn't notice this before, but I'm glad it's at vote. Full support, as well for a commendation. Disappointed it seems to be on the losing end-- there are few players around with as much longevity and continued active involvement in the game as much as Cormac, for better or for worse.

edit: i should also add that it's entirely fitting how these proposals have been squashed by the same vicious bickering that has defined Cormac (and most of us, for that part) throughout his time in GP :P

I voted in favor because I respect the game. I value good gameplay regardless of whether it is in opposition to me or not.

Of course, the nominee is not as generous. It was to be expected. It should be noted that at each and every point where Cormac has stood in opposition to me, I have prevailed.

So if I am mediocre, what does that make him?

Perhaps I should change my vote...

Well, by all means tell us who is truly worthy then? Maybe the goons foolish enough to rally behind you are? Then again, one such person is already DoS. Real pillar of the community there. >_>

You wouldn't know a commendable person if they revoked your citizenship, lol. You most certainly have no idea what a condemnable person might have done to earn it. You've been out of touch with the GP community since the moment you first made your return all those years ago. Probably even longer. Cormac's achievements speak for themselves. If you're so tone deaf that you can't tell the difference or are too busy trying to be a folk hero for the most shameful players in NationStates, then reconsider your objectivity. I'm certainly no fan of Cormac (and he definitely no fan of mine, lol) but regardless of our many differences of opinion even I can see with ease how much he has contributed.
