OOC: Copyrights possibly ... Patent rights ... debatable ... human rights ... definitely not.

As much as I hate clones, I'm all for cloned militaries. Then my citizens can only die of crippling poverty and violent crime, not war.

As it is highly likely that this proposal will not pass, a rewritten and edited resolution based on current and future feedback will be released shortly after the end of the voting period for this proposal. I encourage nations to continue voicing their opinions, thoughts, and concerns on my proposal.

OOC: Put the new draft in a new thread. You can already start that thread. All threads that were at vote, whether they passed or not, will be Archived, plus it's hopefully going to be a new draft going in the more sensible direction, so you don't want all the negativity towards this version to hang around as a reminder. We'll remind you of it if necessary, don't worry. :P

why are so many people against it?

we simply can not support such a loosely worded resolution. Oddly specific in some places and very broad in others.
Metisia supports the idea that artificially created beings are as much our responsibility as naturally occurring ones. But how much and in what ways these beings are protected in the first place is up to nations, not legislation. Because of technicalities it ventures into artificial insemination and altered organisms, and a strange paranoia about "locked-in syndrome" litters most of the text.

In short: The rights of individuals regarding life and liberty, reproduction, and degrees of genetic modification are not up to the international committee, but the nations in which they reside.[/quote]

This is not for this august body to deal with but an individual nation. In Abunenin we clones animals for food and humans for replacement parts.

Well, I partially disagree with you. As it says in the FAQ of NS:

The General Assembly is concerned with passing international law: resolutions to improve human rights, environmental standards, and the like.

We, in the first place, must know what is a human to know what are human rights. In my opinion, what makes us human beings is the fact of our own consciousness. We know that we are alive, we have feelings and we are thinking species. As the artificially created beings are; we cannot regulate the reproductive laws of the natios, but the rights of the thinking species are our duty. We cannot regulate everything that is done with a cloned organ, because technically it's not a human since it doesn't think. But we must regulate the rights of those clones who are able to think. We should focus on this.

And, regarding to the locked-in syndrome; it is an interesting illness which should be regulated not only for clones but for naturally born humans, too. People who suffer of this are not able to react or move any muscle, they seem dead; but they're alive and feeling everything. So, it's a terrific situation to be in an operating room, ready to donate your organs, while you're alive and feeling everything until finally dying there, when your heart was removed. So, I suggest to separate the clones rights and the locked-in syndrome. Which both can be interesting topics of debate, separately.

I know that this is a loosely worded resolution. So I think we should give it another opportunity, redrafting it in a better way. And sending a good draft to voting and not a mediocre one. Saying the right words, this has the opportunity of becoming into a great resolution in the name of human (naturally or artificially born) rights.

OOC: Just bumping this one up by chance, is this actually being redrafted or not?

A 9 civilization because I lean more towards it.

Since this failed at vote, a redraft belongs in a separate thread. This thread will be archived soon.
