Public Health and Vaccinations Act was passed 15,388 votes to 1,738.

Slavonia and Srijem wrote:"Due to soon ending of voting, we inform you that our Confederation will not comply with this resolution, have a great day".

The FAQ wrote:The World Assembly is the world's governing body. It's your chance to mold the world to your vision, by voting for resolutions you like and scuttling the rest. However, it's a double-edged sword, because your nation will be affected by any resolutions that pass. (Unfortunately you can't obey the resolutions you like and ignore the rest.) In other words, it's a hot-bed of political intrigue and double-dealing.

OOC: True we can't hack the game mechanics, but ICly a creative legal savant can find legal basis for non-compliance in virtually any resolution passed here. For instance "general public may reasonably be exposed." In the first clause. Well if we don't consider any disease to be one to which the "general public may reasonably be exposed, well then we don't need any vaccinations to be mandatory. We will of course encourage all citizens to get vaccinations that they feel they might be reasonably exposed to.

"Creative compliance" and outright non-compliance are two different things. The former is a symptom of imperfect legislation and is generally acceptable roleplay; the latter is mere bellyaching and generally is not.

OOC: I can see characters impotently declaring "they won't stand for this" while ultimately complying, but yeah I see your point .

With the passage of this resolution, should the august nations here assembled expect no longer to hear petitions from our citizenry to mandate or prohibit mandatory vaccinations, then?

(OOC: Issues 92 and 413 operate on the assumption of vaccinations being non-mandatory in a nation - should probably be flagged as not applicable to GA nations, if such is possible.)

OOC: It was decided on high, long ago, that issues and the NSUN GA are two separate parts of the game and that the passage of NSUN GA resolutions would not affect member nations' eligibility to receive issues on the same subjects. This might have been, at least partly, so that the editors didn't have to go through the entire list of issues, deciding which ones needed eligibility changed, every time a resolution was passed...

OOC: The thing that prompted me asking is the recent (well, comparatively) appearance of issues where leaving the GA is an option, which I assume non-GA nations don't see - seemed like it might be the start of a wider tightening of GA-and-gameplay integration, but I could be completely wrong there.

There is definitely enough loopholes in this that my own nation will simply ignore it, since obviously it won't be repealed anytime soon.

It does seem like many more conservative delegates and nations, and those on the right have simply chosen to leave the WA. Leaving the leftists and commies and the socialists to run things.
