[PASSED] Commend Zwangzug

Postby Ransium » Sat Sep 09, 2017 10:14 am

A few notes/questions:
  1. Getting the balance between RP stuff and Zwangzug's other achievements right is very important to me. In particular, I wanted to have at least a couple examples of Zwangzug's sports RP, but I didn't want to go overboard. Let me know what you think, I could definitely add more.
  2. The "praising" clause is in reference to Cassadaigua telling me via TG that the idea for a men's right movement in Cassa was first inspired by something Zwangzug RPed. I don't think the RP was literally promoting of the men's right movement, but Zwangzug RPed its existence and Casa ran with the idea. I'd be interested to hear whether you guys think this clause is appropriate. I will TG Cassa to make sure they are okay with it as well. They seem okay with it.
  3. I'm worried the list of liberated regions is too long... your thoughts?
  4. Does the 'Valuing' clause add anything? Should it be cut?

Let me know if you have any other questions or comments!

Draft 6: Added a 'thesis clause, some reordering and rewording.

The World Assembly,

Admiring the numerous positive impacts the nation of Zwangzug has had on several aspects of the NationStates community, including international athletics, liberating occupied regions, and advocacy of issues that confront world leaders;

Appreciating Zwangzug's efforts to further international athletics via hosting a multitude of sporting events, including the World Baseball Classic 3, the '12 FairPlay Trophy, the '12 and '13 NationStates World Fair Sports Tournament, the '13 TriWrathlon, and the World Cup of Hockey 16;

Noting Zwangzug's invaluable planning and logistics provided to both the World Baseball Classic and NationStates World Fair;

Further appreciating en passant assistance given by Zwangzug to other nation's sports tournament hosting efforts, via proliferating information of basic practices for scorekeeping;

Recognizing the incredible prowess of the athletes of Zwangzug in baseball, as well as Zwangzug's pawns Aguazul and Earent in soccer, and Plutoni in hockey, accounting for multiple world championships in multiple sports, most impressively Aguazul's four World Cup wins, including an as of yet unmatched three in a row;

Feeling that exceeding the talent in athletics in the above nations' is the talent in sports journalism, which is famous among the NationStates Community not only for reporting of the athletics on the field, but also using the lens of athletics to illustrate national culture, provide humor, interweave international affairs, and even incorporate mathematical theory;

Admiring that despite the checkered experience of Aguazul in World Cup 54, including the mid-tournament murder by dinosaurs of emblematic General, Carlos Lopez, the nation was still able to co-host World Cup 55;

Praising Zwangzug's commitment to civil rights and equality as demonstrated by assisting in the organization of a men's rights group in Cassadaigua;

Astounded that Zwangzug is also accomplished at protecting regions from occupation and liberating occupied regions, demonstrated by achieving the rank of Lieutenant in the United Defenders League, being awarded Liberator of the Month in March 2012, participating in such notable liberations as ITALIA, Norway, Liberal Haven, Hong Kong, Christmas, Roman Empire, and Italy, as well as acting as a protective castle to countless other regions via their early spotting of potential invading forces;

Awestruck that, in addition, Zwangzug is a talented issue advocate, demonstrated by bringing the following issues to world leaders' attention:

  • Hate speech via Sticks And Stones;
  • Olympic boycotts via The Road To Blackacre Ends Here?; and
  • National censuses via Your Nation Taking Leave Of Its Census;
Believing strongly that a nation that has made such positive contributions in so many different areas of the multiverse deserves international recognition;

Hereby commends Zwangzug.

Changes from 1st to 2nd draft: A couple grammatical and flow alterations, added the "Further Appreciating" clause at Kaboomlandia's suggestion (based on this), removed the "Believing" clause, fixed the name of the "NationStates World Fair", thanks to Uni's suggestion.

I say it is well-crafted. The RP seems evenly balanced with the nation's R/D and Issue Accomplishments. It is cleverly written, well-based, and I find myself in support of it.

That's true. You can not commend nations for making issues. You should remove those lines. Otherwise, we would be supporting this commendation.

Looks like the issue mentioning is legal for issues that were written before Zwangzug became an IE.
In=character, Kaboomlandia is a World Assembly member and abides by its resolutions. If this nation isn't in the WA, it's for practical reasons.

All the mentioned issues are legit; published well before Zwang joined the team. Which is why Ransium included them. He would know, he's an IE, after all.

It has certainly been avoided in past condemnations and I agree it's dicey. I will think it over.

Edit: I've removed the tag, the meaning is still clear without it.

"NationStates World Fair" should be R4-compliant, so I would suggest it over World's Fair since it's the proper term.

I'd certainly vote for this... even though Aguazul's first World Cup victory was achieved by beating the Bears' own team...
And thank you for reminding me about
the mid-tournament murder by dinosaurs of Aguazul's emblematic General

I'm not in the WA, but as I am mentioned in the draft, I want to declare my complete endorsement for this proposal. I don't think I would have gotten where I am today if not for her.

Thanks for the comments/questions/feedback thus far. I've posted a new draft where I've tried to incorporate as much of it as possible. As always happy to hear more.

Discussed this in the RMB I know, but some thoughts as to making it nice and unique, and taking into account Zwangzug.

1) Potentially starting one of the paragraphs with "In Passing" or "En Passant" to reference that particularly unique chess move that everyone forgets.

2) Closing with:

Believing strongly that unlike its namesake, Zwangzug leaves us with a winning move allowing us to recognize a nation that has made such positive contributions in so many different areas of the multiverse;

Okay, I've peppered in a few chess puns and references throughout the newest draft, let me know if you think I've gotten too cute or forced.

I like it, but I'd cut off the dirt line, The resolution's a bit long anyway

Unless I say they do, in which case, there is a nonzero chance.

Most voters aren't going to check all these puns. Unless you remove them, the proposal is likely to reach a stalemate. Other than that, my mind is too board for my eyes to capture every single piece of this draft, so make your move.

I'll see myself out.
