The Kadurian ambassador clears his throat.

"This proposal is hastily written and gives almost no benefit in the repeal. This could easily be used to overturn basic rights for sapient beings and could allow extremely inhumane tortures to be used for the lightest interrogation," Fernandez states flatly.

"Kadur votes nay."

A Glorious Message from His Eminence the High Administrator

We don't need torture to get what we want from our captured spies, political opponents, etc. Not while we know where they live, where their family lives, where their friends live, where their favorite type of stuffed animal is manufactured, and how to accidentally launch a faulty prototype missile that will unfortunately lead to said peoples untimely demise, of which their will be much weeping, the military will chalk it up to incompetence on so and so's part, their'll be an execution yadda yadda yadda, we'll forget about it all by next week monday.

and... if that somehow isn't enough (which would be pretty hardcore); we here been manufacturing mostly safe and humane truth serums! that I am legally obligated to state that; they aren't safe, and they sure as hell ain't humane. But they are definitely effective.

Hugo Steichen, the representative for Liechstienhaus's Council of World's Affairs, enters the room.

"All glory to the great land of Liechstienhaus and our capital city of Arstotzka, and most importantly; our glorious leader, Leandre Berube."

Steichen performs the two-fingered salute that is customary to display when introducing Liechstienhaus in the World Assembly.

"Liechstienhaus absolutely cannot support such a poorly written, poorly thought out resolution that ultimately goes against the ideals that Liechstienhaus was founded upon. It is suggested that whoever drafted this resolution in Ultramarr attend basic language and writing classes so that they may in the future provide meaningful resolutions to the World Assembly, instead of wasting the time of both myself and my country's people."

From the Osiris Fraternal Order
And the office of the Vizier of World Assembly Affairs

“As Ra makes his way across the heavily sky, and the cycle of the universe continues, the people of Osiris and its prosperity of the Nile, after consulting with the community, and the gods Seshat and Ma’at, have determined to vote AGAINST the current resolution. The Pharaoh will vote according to the people, and according to Ma’at. His actions are necessary in maintaining the balance between order and chaos, truth and darkness, and Osiris will follow the Pharaoh’s direction. The government of the Osiris Fraternal Order will consider no proposal without the text meeting the requirements of Ma’at. We will continue to uphold our moral responsibilities to the people, maintaining and voting in favor of any proposals that will forward the truth and honor that is expected of all who call Osiris home. Cosmic harmony is only obtainable through expressing the will of Ma’at, and the will of the Pharaoh. Although we have derived at this decision, the author of the proposal - or any party interested - is welcome to present a case that would enlighten the Pharaoh and the community to the purpose of the proposal, and perhaps change the will of the gods, the Pharaoh, and the community. If this interests you, please visit our kingdom and speak your knowledge here. All information is important, and will be presented to Seshat, the goddess of wisdom, knowledge, and writing to help direct the Pharaoh to make the right decision for the people of fraternal order. If you have any questions about Osiris in the World Assembly, please direct them to the office of the Vizier of World Assembly Affairs by sending Adytus a telegram. For more general questions regarding Osiris, please direct them to the Pharaoh, Syberis. Thank you fellow ambassadors, and author of the current proposal at vote, for your time. Osiris, her people, and the office of the Vizier greatly appreciate your time, and patience.

Best Regards,
The Vizier of World Assembly Affairs, Adytus.

To Torture or not to Torture?, that is the question

Postby Bananaaaaa » Fri Sep 08, 2017 1:37 am

Interesting yet another nonsensical repeal. This one is right up there with the Religion mumbojumbo. However yours is different from the rest, theres no legal jargen or long paragraphs pointing out specific points, of why this should be repealled. I will give you one of my fellow neighbouring nations "Cookies"( its full of deliciousness, just ignore the white powedry substance), for your effort. I am against your repeal, as The Principality exercises its right to torture or not to torture its condemned citizens/prisoners. It is already implimented in The Principality that all POW are excempt from torture of any sort.

Ultramarr wrote:I made the proposal and if anyone want to discuss it feel free to tell me whether you support or oppose it

OOC: Um...it is a bit late for that. Once you submit a proposal, all discussion effectively ceases, as it is no longer a draft or in an editable state. Once it reaches quorum, then all "discussion" effectively just becomes a statement of support or opposition. Ultramarr, you have gone about this completely the wrong way. A mod had to submit the proposal to the forum on your behalf, because you didn't submit it yourself. Now this nonsense has reached quorum, and is at vote. As a result of not being drafted first, it is getting annihilated in the vote. And rightly so.

Aozora Chiyumi, naturally in her standard attire with not much regard for formality, arrived. Ignoring the presumed near-murderous glances of the other delegates, she made a simple statement.

"I support this proposal."

Then she departed before anybody could try an assassination attempt or something.

Then she stopped for second.

"Hey! What are the bananas doing with my cookies- alright I really need to go pressing matting stress relief bye."

Left in her wake was a note:

Torture is useful. So it should be allowed. Even if the proposal itself is a bit messy.
This nation exists for fun and insanity, not to represent my actual views which are much more mundane and boring.
Also, I don't use NS stats. So please ignore them.

"As a duly selected representative of Imperial Polk County I must cast my vote against. It's a shame because the resolution in question could use an update; for example, it did nothing to prevent the torture of having to read through such a poorly worded proposal. However, such minor flaws don't merit this kind of repeal. Now if y'all excuse me, my nation is about to be invaded by a foreign force known to us only as 'Irma' so I must return home immediately. And in case anyone wishes to provide us with any humanitarian aid, that would be greatly appreciated; I'll have my secretary pick this up later."

The Polkian ambassador places a half-gallon mason jar, labeled "Dontaions for Irma Victims" (sic), on a table prior to walking out.

I'm also confused why this even got to vote in the first place. Who would approve this mess?

OOC: Any mindless drivel can reach quorum nowadays. As long as something is legal, just about anything can get past the quorum milestone. That is why one particular nation (I will not name them, but you all know who I mean) is so focused on making their proposals legal, and they neglect to put in any actual meaningful content.

Torture is against human rights, so nations of the World Assembly cannot do what they want about it !
So I'm generally against the proposed repealing, except, as Ultramarr said, in case of terrorism to save lives.
And I add : ONLY IF WE HAVE AN IRREFUTABLE PROOF that the person is guilty of something which has a terrorist nature...

OOC: WA resolutions can never be amended, only repealed-and-replaced wholesale. Think of it not as a normal government bill which can be changed by successor laws, but as a Obamacare which has to be repealed to be replaced by Trumpcare (or Ryancare, or whatever they're calling it today). This resolution, if it somehow passes - and believe me, Abraham Lincoln is more likely to become the 46th President of the United States - this resolution will repeal the WA law banning all torture (sections 1, 2, 3 and 5 of Mambo #5 GA Resolution #9), including for interrogation. You might be "generally against" it, but you need to be for it if you want a gap in the international legal codex to be left for a successor law which does allow some wiggle-room for torture.
