[PASSED] Commend Yggdrasil

Postby Ransium » Sun Mar 26, 2017 11:31 am

Sixth Draft - Changes to the line regarding YDS
The Security Council,

Acknowledging the region of Yggdrasil's historic import, having been founded in the early months of 2003;

Impressed with its pioneering role in promoting esprit de corps through storytelling between member nations and ally regions in ways that have now become commonplace in the NationStates community;

Noting how seriously Yggdrasil handles international relations as demonstrated by its alliances with Texas, 10000 Islands, and Wysteria since 2006 and the careful research it undertakes before considering new relations;

Further noting the degree of mutually beneficial interactions Yggdrasil has had with its allies, as demonstrated by its participation in cross-regional sporting events, cooperation with others to combat outbreaks of deadly diseases, hosting of best flag contests, and promotion of cross-regional visits;

Applauding the success of its volunteer army, the Yggdrasil Defense Service (YDS), which, although not regularly deployed, has assisted in the high profile liberations of Feudal Japan, Japan, Lazarus, South America, Sweden, and The Skeleton Army among other operations;

Exalting its respect for meritocracy, fostering a system under which members of both raider and defender affiliations could become delegates and live in peace;

Aware of its commitment to promoting World Assembly Authorship, as evidenced by:
  • Its creation of an in-depth legislation composition guide designed to help new authors; and
  • Its setting up of an area for new authors to post draft legislation and be helped by more experienced authors of the region, before presenting them to the floor of the wider Assembly;
Further aware of the success of these efforts, as demonstrated by the number of World Assembly authors and co-authors that hailed from the region, such as Goddess Relief Office (9), Travacore-Cochin (3), Elke and Elba (2), Silvadus (1), and Veilyonia (1);

Convinced that a region that has promoted active participation, international diplomacy, and democratic values for the amount of time Yggdrasil has makes the entire NationStates community a better and more interesting place;

Hereby commends Yggdrasil.

Only had a chance to have a quick read at the moment, but mention of roleplay, gameplay are illegal.

I'll try and have a closer look later.

Apologies, as I am obviously a novice at security council proposal writing. Is there a legal way to mention or imply roleplay or do those things need to be cut out wholesale?

You cannot refer to the game "as a game". You need to write IC from the perspective of the SC.

I've put in a couple of links to the original rulings on the use of roleplay and gameplay. They may help you formulate a suitably legal proposal.

This is lacking in substance. Give specific examples of their accomplishments, because what I'm reading is that they have a few embassies, they're old, they have a military that might or might not have ever done anything, and some of their natives have written WA resolutions (how the region ties into that at all isn't clear).

^ 16 General Assembly resolutions. Europe has 14 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 20 ! (And probably a few more which I cannot recall off the top of my head.) I'd love a commendation for Europe.

So go write one. Unless you're being snarky and saying that simply GA authors residing in a region is nothing particularly commendable unless there is something in the region that draws them in/makes them better, in which case you're probably correct.

Thanks for your comments, this is just a first draft of something I'm new at, so I expected it would need work. I'm researching revisions, but it'll take me some time to gather sources and such.

  • Holding alliances with the regions of Texas, 10000 Islands, and Wysteria since 2006;
  • Promoting cross regional visits, role plays, international sporting events, contests, and other events with its close allies;
  • Forming a defense force used for the protection of its allies;
  • Duly vetting embassy regions and only creating embassies were there are true mutual interests;
Awed that the themes of 1) Anime, 2) Games, and 3) The Environment, which are rooted in the interest of its original founders in 2003, have been carried on to this day and still unite the region;

Applauding Yggdrasil's commitment to democracy and neutrality, as shown by:
  • Being governed by a constitution which promotes democratic elections, since 2008;
  • Holding free and open elections, which consistently produce smooth transfers of power between different leaders;
  • Electing leader's with both raider and defender affiliation while remaining neutral;

Aware of that Yggdrasil has worked together as a community to make a difference internationally via World Assembly Authorship and Coauthorship as evidenced by the work of nations such as Goddess Relief Office (9 successful proposals authored or coauthored), Travacore-Cochin (3 proposals), Elke and Elba (2 proposals), Silvadus (1 proposal), and Veilyonia (1 proposal);

Further noting that since 2006 Yggdrasil has maintained a stable and close nit community, consistently having between around 250-350 member nations;

Recognizing that Yggdrasil's current founder, Goddess Relief Office, has in the past gone to great efforts to document dilemmas that nations have faced, potential solutions, and resultant impacts, efforts undertaken only for the benefit of all nation's in the international community who might face similar dilemmas in the future;

Feeling that a region that has personified the values of community, international diplomacy, and democratic values for the amount of time Yggdrasil has makes all regions stronger;

Hereby commends Yggdrasil.

Will take a closer look later but....

I would take out the numbers here:

1) Anime, 2) Games, and 3) The Environment,

Also, something not so important that you can do when you submit it but, most people bold the first word in a clause,
Acknowledging that the region of Yggdrasil is a region of historic import, founded no later than the early months of 2003;

Impressed that Yggdrasil pioneered several techniques of creating esprit de corps through storytelling within the region and between ally regions which are now common in the NationStates community;

Awed that the themes of 1) Anime, 2) Games, and 3) The Environment, which are rooted in the interest of its original founders, have been carried on to this day and still unite the region;

Noting that seriousness Yggdrasil takes international relations alliances as demonstrated by alliances held with the regions of Texas, 10000 Islands, and Wysteria since 2006 and the stringent vetting and research Yggrdasil undertakes before opening international relations;

Actually, don't use the bold thing. Leave them normal, for the sake of Imperium Anglorum's sanity.

Which is why I said for the sake of his sanity, not for the success of the proposal.

Although I'm aware of the convention, I've never ban a huge fan. Since it's not necessary I'll probably not do it.

Sorry, I've been meaning to put together a new draft, but I've been more focused elsewhere of late. I'll try to get one up soon though, expect minor revisions largely aimed at cutting down on characters and improving cohesiveness. I might cut the documentation clause as I feel that marginal to the overall thrust.

Commended by SC 236,
WA Delegate of Forest from March 20th, 2007 to August 19, 2020.
Author of WA Resolutions: SC 221, SC 224, SC 233, SC 243, SC 265, GA 403, GA 439, GA 445,GA 463,GA 465,
Issues Editor since January 20th, 2017 with some down time.
Author of 27 issues. First editor of 44.
Moderator since November 10th 2017 with some down time.

And also, unless you know something I don't, neither GRO nor Anime Daisuki have written issues as of yet.

Well it has my approval. Well argued and written.

4th draft. More cuts/re-phrasing for length and wordiness considerations. FYI I'm considering submitting this in a couple weeks.

Imperium Anglorum wrote:^ 16 General Assembly resolutions. Europe has 14 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 20 ! (And probably a few more which I cannot recall off the top of my head.) I'd love a commendation for Europe.

OOC: If we're going down this road, I'll note IDU has authored 45. :blush:

Seriously, however: I think Yggdrasil is certainly a deserving candidate. The SC needs to do a better job of recognizing contributions outside of gameplay, and I think Yggdrasil is a shining example of success outside of the purely R/D game. IDU will vote for this as written.

Just to let you know: Yggdrasil in its original form was founded in early 2003, but was refounded by the Goddess Relief Office in late 2006.
