Safeguards Nuclear Power

Postby Lost Brotherhood » Sun Dec 10, 2017 2:50 am

If I understood this resolution correctly, it also safeguards nuclear power. Seeing as the Brotherhood utilizes fission reactors as our main power source, I appreciate this resolution as a line of defense for my nation's power grid.

POSITION: SUPPORTED

Qwi draws up a pie chart of the amount of exports last year. "Uranium is one of our major exports. While we don't use it to produce weaponry, we send it to other nations for whatever use they might desire. If that funding dried up—can someone PLEASE close that window, there are at least 17 journalists outside—if that funding dried up, we would have a hole in our national park with no profit coming out of it. You see, the only way we can justify the existence of these mines is that they help the economy; without that justification, the nature nuts are all over us."

Why the Dominion voted YES

Postby Reikswald » Sun Dec 10, 2017 12:18 pm

The Dominion of Reikswald votes in support of the "Safeguarding Nuclear Materials" proposal, due to one main fact: Security.

If we, the civilized people of the world, don't take security in our own hands, we are the only ones who lose. Preventing the chances of a rogue nation being able to attack us with a nuclear arsenal should be a chance that everyone jumps at. Also, being able to arm ourselves (with proper regulation of course) will only help us, not hurt us. Many nations think if we stop the production and regulations of the nuclear arsenals, then everyone will just fall in line, but the only ones you are hurting is the international guideline-abiding nations.

In essence, if you vote against this proposal, you are basically telling your country, and every other country in this Assembly, that you are ok with gambling with their lives.

Teran Saber: "For all intents and purposes, this proposal shouldn't affect your uranium exports directly. This simply requires you to secure any and all facilities related to nuclear materials. You can continue selling uranium at your leisure provided it does not result in any leaks of your nuclear technology's specs or designs. Though I'd personally recommend you find other locations for your uranium mines... "

Directs, should no future legislation require otherwise, the Nuclear Energy Safety Commission to ensure that nuclear armaments, materials, and knowledge are secured from weaponisation by providing material assistance and phase-out assistance to nations unable to defend their own nuclear knowledge and technology.

Nuclear Energy Safety Commision?

Our glorious empire will NEVER give up his sovereignty over our superweapons to WA bureucracy, and will refuse to obey WA (we always do that anyway).

The strong deserves to dominate the weak, if other nations on the multiverse are weak enough or pacifist enough to know that we live on a universe full of strong enemies to don't develop WMD, they deserve to be tortured and obliterated by any stronger nation.

Every sentient being only have the rights they have strength to protect. If the sentient person is weak, it deserves to be tortured, enslaved, abused, objectified and used a a non-person by everybody that is stronger.

My glorious Empire will sell WMD or the technology to any nation I want and use it to CONQUER, as I did with puny Brazilistan, so, I claim the strong to oppose this barrier to the development of POWER.

This resolution put technological advancements of our Arms Manufacturing and our glorious imperialist campaign in risk.

I do hope one day we got the coordinates to throw all my WMD at WA and laugh at the decimated corpsed at will with the Atridesian Imperial Multiverse Space Fleet banner over the glass dust. I don't even obey these useless bureaucracy, there would be no issues if any of us obey WA, for real, but I love to mess with WA.

We categorically reject this proposal as nothing more than an attempt by imperialists to safeguard their illegitimate power & impose their will upon poorer, less developed nations. We condemn the author's effort to defend the building & use of nuclear weaponry.
I use some NS stats, but not all of them.

OOC: It really doesn't do that. WA nations can already possess nuclear weapons, this doesn't change that fact.

OOC: The WA basically mandates the proliferation of nuclear weapons among WA nations, because of the right of all WA states to possess them based on past WA Resolutions. The current Proposal doesn't really expand said proliferation, as the absolute right of WA nations to possess such weapons has already been affirmed in past Resolutions. If anything, this Resolution at vote places reasonable limits on the spread of such technology, while ensuring that WA nations can possess nuclear weapons.

As a new WA member, I am not familiar with history. On the face of it,the proposal seems sound, but begs the question: are WA nations threatened by outsiders? If not, it's a moot point. So, educate me.

OOC: In theory, nations not in the WA can have as many nuclear weapons as they want, as they are not bound by any legal limitations. As such, WA nations need to have the capability to possess nuclear weapons for the purposes of deterrence against such non-WA nations. Past Resolutions, and the current Resolution at vote, guarantee that WA nations have the legal right to manufacture, possess, and use nuclear weapons to deter aggression. That is one of the main reasons that WA nations are reluctant to repeal the past Resolutions regarding nuclear weapons.

As a democratic European nation who is in the process of eliminating all forms of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) from their armed forces inventory, I'm totally against this resolution. The usage of nuclear weapons in war, along with chemical weapons such as white phosphorus is a serious threat to peace - since it has killed many innocent citizens including women and children.

Instead, the Nuclear Energy Safety Commission (NESC) should amend existing laws to ban any forms of WMDs; that also includes chemical and nuclear weapons alike, whilst ensuring that all nuclear reactors shall be safeguarded to avoid any possible meltdown and hostile attacks. Thank you.
