[PASSED] Repeal "Dastardly Nukes Thingy"

Repeal "Securing Nuclear Materials From Dastardly Menaces"
Category: Repeal || Resolution: GAR#391 || Proposed by: Wallenburg

The World Assembly,

Understanding the need for member states to remain capable of self defense,

Recognizing the right of member states to possess nuclear weapons,

Concerned that GAR#391 fails to adequately address the issue of nuclear arms production,

Recognizing that the text of GAR#391 is entirely identical to that of GAR#351, "Nuclear Materials Safeguards", which was repealed handily for glaring issues that persist in this iteration,

Disappointed that clause four of GAR#391 grants generous funds to aggressive and warlike nations, and that it may encourage them to further develop their nuclear arsenals at the expense of the World Assembly,

Aware that ambiguous references to the "wrong hands" only leave room for subjective and conflicting perspectives on which nations ought to have the right to possess nuclear weapons, contrary to the principle of existing legislation on that subject,

Hereby repeals GAR#391, "Securing Nuclear Materials From Dastardly Menaces".

"Full support, Ambassador Ogenbond, however, I fear you may have great difficulty getting this resolution passed, on account of the significant vote Europe holds."

OOC
I can see this getting annoying in the future.

IC: "Well, my last resolution passed even with Europe's immediate opposition. I have an optimistic outlook on this."

People really overstate the power of delegate votes. Heavens, there's much more difficulty in getting a proposal through TNP and Europeia. 1.7 thousand votes right there.

"Also this resolution forces small open nations like ours, who are not big players internationally, to somehow track and intervene in the selling of nuclear arms to 'the wrong hands', a phrase so vague it could quite literally be an excuse for any nation to declare war on another nation for owning nuclear weapons."

OOC: WALL campaigned against this in TNP and Euro - I personally sent out an IFV to WA members in my region - and I was actually about to write up a repeal myself when Wallenburg beat me to it.

OOC: ...did that make the conspiracy people vote for it then? Because if you campaign for it, they vote against.

Facepalm. There are explicit clauses of the Accord (which is being repealed in TNP and Europeia) which make it clear it does not bind a certain vote. Secondarily, Europeia consented to sending messages to their own members, so it doesn't trigger the Accord anyway. Stop pretending the Accord says something it doesn't actually say.

We got rid of it earlier this week in Europeia.

We understand you'd like this passed but contacting my office 3 times is excessive to say the least. Such excessive use of my secretary's time will be taken into consideration when/if this resolution comes to vote

OOC: there was a technical issue outside Wallenburg's control

Oh, and Wallenburg, good luck with the proposal.

Alexander Smith, Tinhamptonian Delegate-Ambassador to the World Assembly: The Tinhamptonian delegation has also granted consent for the receipt of campaign approval telegrams, and yet nothing's cropped up in my inbox, or in Jamie's*, although that is mainly because they only gave provisions for one inbox.
*Jamie Williamson, Assistant to the Delegate-Ambassador.

"My apologies. It appears my staff got confused and accidentally contacted several offices, including yours, more than once."

OOC: Sorry, I had some trouble with regard to scripts and Internet connection. It appears that your nation got caught in the crossfire.

Ah, that makes sense. No worries.

OOC: Wallenburg, you might want to find a way to shorten the target resolution's name for this thread's title, especially if/when this gets to vote. Otherwise you'll have a lot of confused people here who don't understand what your title is about. :P

EDIT: Seriously? Can't write a single sentence without typoing? Maybe it's my bedtime...
