Iksana rolls his eyes. "What, is your economy completely dependent on the endangered species body parts trade or something? I hope you have a backup plan for when your livelihood goes extinct, because boy are you heading for an economy collapse if that's the case."
Trust Factbooks, not stats.

The Ambassador of Essu Beti is Iksana Gayan and he's an elf. He’s irritable and a damn troll and everything he says is IC only. I would never be so tactless OOC.

National News Radio: A large-scale infrastructure project will soon be underway. During this time, for safety reasons, the island will be closed to tourists and foreign news agents. We do expect a minor loss in revenue due to this, but this will be greatly offset by both the long and short-term benefits of the infrastructure project. If your job is negatively impacted by the island closure, please send a letter or verbal message via courier to the Council so that we can add you to the list of beneficiaries of foreign aid.

"Have you read 'Endangered Species Protection' and 'Sensible Limits on Hunting'?" Ambassador Tāne queries a bemused look in his eyes. "Given the restrictions in those, why wait for this resolution to pass? I think you should mass resign now. Don't worry we'll be right behind you."

"Ambassador, upon the reading of this resolution and the noting of its At-Vote Status, I have determined that it does not conflict with any of the aims that I have been sent here to carry out. Therefore, I have had my appropriate deputy vote For on this resolution. I look forward to the passage of this resolution and the further preservation of the natural world and the beauty inherent in such."

Can we gain a list of endangered animals - If trout is endangered I shall be voting for this bill, if not I will decidedly be casting a no in the ballot.

"Speaking of extinctions and collapses, your will to live may go the way of the dodo..." Janis dropped a binder - a very thick binder - on the desk before Iksana. "It's a little questionnaire that you'll need to answer - you and the experts of your nation on the relevant issues - before my nation can fully figure out how and if we can help yours with the energy and environmental issues. It's been translated here, so it should be understandable in your language. Take it home, have people write the answers, add the necessary attachments - see the list on the last three pages on what's needed - and get it back to me. I'll have it translated again and sent on to back home."

OOC: Don't worry, it's printed with and made of fully recycled materials, nothing needs to go extinct to keep Araraukarian bureaucracy running. :P

It should be noted that Iksana's eyes did not bug out at the sight of such a massive binder of bureaucratic mess. His ears did flick back against his head momentarily, however. Well, this sure was something he desperately needed to shove on someone else. He flipped it open to a random page. Yep, it was confirmed. This was not something he had any interest in doing himself.

"If this is the little questionnaire, I don't even want to know what the big one is," he said, picking up the binder just so he could grimace at the weight of it. "I'm not an expert on environmental matters. The unwashed horde of politicians back home would probably have something in mind, though."

"I'll make sure to emphasize the attention of the Central Office on their replies on the hygieny parts, then," Janis promised with a wink and returned to her seat.

OOC: Vote is currently 71% for, with most of the big delegate votes already in, so looking pretty good for the proposal.

From the Osiris Fraternal Order
And the office of the Vizier of World Assembly Affairs

“As Ra makes his way across the heavily sky, and the cycle of the universe continues, the people of Osiris and its prosperity of the Nile, after consulting with the community, and the gods Seshat and Ma’at, have determined to vote IN FAVOR OF of the current resolution. The Pharaoh will vote according to the people, and according to Ma’at. His actions are necessary in maintaining the balance between order and chaos, truth and darkness, and Osiris will follow the Pharaoh’s direction. The government of the Osiris Fraternal Order will consider no proposal without the text meeting the requirements of Ma’at. We will continue to uphold our moral responsibilities to the people, maintaining and voting in favor of any proposals that will forward the truth and honor that is expected of all who call Osiris home. Cosmic harmony is only obtainable through expressing the will of Ma’at, and the will of the Pharaoh. Although we have derived at this decision, the author of the proposal - or any party interested - is welcome to present a case that would enlighten the Pharaoh and the community to the purpose of the proposal, and perhaps change the will of the gods, the Pharaoh, and the community. If this interests you, please visit our kingdom and speak your knowledge here. All information is important, and will be presented to Seshat, the goddess of wisdom, knowledge, and writing to help direct the Pharaoh to make the right decision for the people of fraternal order. If you have any questions about Osiris in the World Assembly, please direct them to the office of the Vizier of World Assembly Affairs by sending Adytus a telegram. For more general questions regarding Osiris, please direct them to the Pharaoh, Neo Kervoskia. Thank you fellow ambassadors, and author of the current proposal at vote, for your time. Osiris, her people, and the office of the Vizier greatly appreciate your time, and patience.

Best Regards,
The Vizier of World Assembly Affairs, Adytus.

NO. Even if it passes, we're NOT adopting it. We'll just spread propaganda on how the WA is holding us back. Until you help industry, we won't support this law.

OOC: What if we, a nation, were eradicating a mosquito spreading super-malaria, which then became endangered, would we be able to continue to collect scientific samples, or would we have to ascribe to one of these 'species restoration programmes'?

Never mind, just re-read the provision in Endangered Species Protection, which provides an exception to declaring a species endangered if it poses a threat to public health.

Elsie Mortimer Wellesley, looking at her watch, comments wryly to her husband over the telephone, "It's been a long day. It's already 1 AM at the headquarters." She pauses, turns around, and addresses the chamber, "Well, I can say that there were come Cabinet discussions. The government coalesced around Prime Minister Parsons' concerns around economic incentives earlier, but those issues have been neatly resolved. I can certainly say I am pleased about that. I've always liked the idea of preserving things for posterity."

She pushes a button, casting the Commonwealth's vote to FOR, and explains, "We earlier cast a vote against to maintain competitiveness so we could buy time to form an international and interregional consensus. Discounting the facts that that the cast vote clearly failed to maintain competitiveness and that consensus was reached much later than expected, the Commonwealth votes in favour based on the reasoning we have maintained throughout this drawn-out process, in exercise of powers granted to me by the World Assembly Communities Act 1909."

And with that, she left the chamber, briskly walking to the Headquarters' train station for the journey home.

Ludicrous

Postby Smilidonia » Mon Jun 26, 2017 8:35 am

This resolution and others like it are blatantly infringing on sovereign rights of another country. If I want to capture every last endangered Smilidonian Turkey and sell them to the highest bidders then that is none of your business and we will do it regardless of your approval or not. This bodies meddling with internal affairs that it has NO RIGHT to is going to be the cause of many of use who believe in the will of the people and the sovereignty of nations to leave the body altogether at some point. It's entirely unreasonable for you to in any way interfere with our economy or actions of our sovereign economic advisors. As long as it makes a profit it is right and just.

Which is impossible in the long run, due to market entry. Try again.
