Not all people on this forum are from the United States. People from Australia have a right-wing party called the Liberal Party and a left-wing one called Labor (not misspelt). People in the UK have the Liberal Democrats who descend from the Liberal Party who are very centrist and pro-free market. It is primarily in the United States where liberal gained a definition also as 'the left' (for example, the left in Germany is not Liberale partei, but rather, Der Linke or Linkspartei). I was, naturally, very confused when I first got into a discussion about politics in the US.
