He probably pronounces his nation oh-din-BERG. It's supposed to be pronouned ODIN-bruh, as in EDIN-bruh. Next, they'll tell me that Leicester should be pronounced LYE-chester and not leice-STER [/s]

Artefacts = English

Artifacts = American (a bit like English for dummies)

I find this disparaging rhetoric unnecessary. Our colleague's mistake in recognizing one of several generally accepted spellings of the word doesn't necessitate retribution against every spelling in conflict with your own nation's.

Ambassador Geist, having signed his approval of several pieces of legislation, floats quickly over to the main assembly floor, adjusting his tie by waving his arms until its smokey form takes on a more appealing appearance.

"My, we have our work cut out for us in the weeks ahead don't we? I am quite pleased to see that after the dry spell we've seen so far this year, we will get to sink our teeth into some very interesting legislation. On to the matter at hand. As delegate of The Versutian Federation, I have voted for the resolution in question. While it is not the easiest on the eyes and could have done with a final draft cleaning up its language, I find the purpose and effect of the resolution to be generally unobjectionable. Both the resolution as a whole and my region overwhelmingly support taking action to honor and preserve the history of our member nations, and I leave it up to future jurisprudence and related law to help iron out some of the potential disputes that may arise when some of this resolution's provisions start to take effect. This is an experiment worth undertaking, and should it be reexamined in the future, with cleaner language and additional thought given to potential unintended consequences, I would happily support a replacement. My support will not, however, be conditional on a specific spelling of words, and I hope there are not too many out there who will base a vote on so small and trivial a thing."

As the amasador from Florida we have voted heck no on this proposal. If our scientist find artifacts then the should be ours. We have been invaded many times by different nations. Our resources have been taken over centuries. If one of the invaders ships is found at sea laden with artifacts then those artifacts are ours. Not only as matter of salvage but as a matter of reparations.

Furthermore I can easily see since we have to return the artefacts to whichever country they were originally from there will be a large rise in the black market. There could be a reduction in artefacts available to the public.

Nor is there anything about paying for the materials and labor to find the artefacts. We are to turn them over without compensation? Don't see a lot of archeologists being able to work for free and personally pay for their excavations.

Also how is "native" defined? If we find artefacts within Imperium Anglorum that belonged to a group of Ghostopolians who gets the artefacts? If the Ghostoplians were living in Anglorum were they not native at the time? Or would Ghostopolis argue that their citizens were merely travelers visiting Anglorum? Many lawsuits would follow.

The criticism of the proper spelling of the word artefact is infuriating. I've had it in the past with when using -ise instead of the mongrelised -ize. A rather curt note informing people that there's more to the world than their insular yankee view usually does the trick.

IC: "The People's Republic of Bananaistan fully supports the resolution at hand and we congratulate its authors on its imminent successful passage through the lobbies. There have been a few nitpicky criticisms of the text during the debate but we can see nothing that significantly damages the resolution or prevents the achievement of the aims of the authors."

I agree with this, and additionally I do not feel like it is a very well written proposal. I voted against, and I hope that once this leaves the floor it can be repealed and another proposal with a similar objective can be reinstated.
