Or it could be that the Yakusan ambassador is a lemming in disguise.

But we'll go with our first argument.

No I am not a lemming. Now stop suggesting otherwise, I find it a tad rude.

Ah, of course not. So it is our skilled debate that has swayed you. Cheers! 8)

This is crazy does not have any compensation for those of us who essentially will have to rebuild are are auto industry. This is asking us to sacrifice money and jobs for protecting the environment and I don't think it is a fair and I fully disagree and vote against this unjust piece of legislation.

What are you talking about Chester? If you're going to be on this council and try to criticise me, please try to make sense in doing so.

It does make sense considering your performance in past debates. You equate voting numbers with righteousness and resisted scientific and economic fact provided to you repeatedly only to finally capitulate when the proposal started winning.

Defwa wrote:Is your military so poor that its using the same outdated fuel technology as the poorest of your nation? Odds are, if they're so poor as to still require leaded fuel vehicles which most nations all but abandoned decades ago, that ten year vehicular life cycle is long gone anyway.

I believe that the representative from Defwa has misunderstood me. I was not saying that only the poor used leaded fuelled vehicles I was saying that the cost of conversion or using an additive would affect them harder than the richer members of our society.

To hear some of my colleagues talk about how little the extra cost will be reminds me of something Mr Micawber from David Copperfield said, “Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery.” (For those who don’t understand the Old British money six pence the amount under and over income is 2.5 pence today.)

I am disheartened by some of the arguments in favour of this proposal. Our esteemed colleague from Bears Armed Mission has identified an issue, which one has to assume he thinks is of major importance hence this proposal in front of us. But when representatives from other nations state this proposal will cause them some hardship they are answered by the call, why are you still using leaded fuel? Or the number of users of unleaded fuel is small so the cost will be small. If market forces have made the use of leaded fuel such a minority form of fuel then why are we discussing this proposal to end its use within four years? Wouldn’t market forces on their own end its use in time?

Market forces are known to leave remnants that take a while to die out naturally. Regulation such as this forces that final push.
In the meantime, even minor use is a public health concern.

The main concern, however, remains that some nations have chosen, for one reason or another, to ignore decades of technological development. These nations are ridiculous and need an international kick in the ass. They have avoided short term expense- probably to dodge political responsibility at the cost of the health of their public. These make up a small portion of the international community just as leaded fuel users make up a small portion of your nation's population- but if you don't force the issue on some people, they will never address it.

The planet of Krankor has a proud tradition of spacecraft powered by lignite/anthracite. We view this measure as nothing less than an attempt to cripple nations with coal-powered spacecraft. Voting Against.

This is the most ridiculous thing we've heard all day. Just how far do your coal-powered spacecraft fly?

OOC: neither lignite nor anthracite are gas-generating propellants. You won't get enough thrust out of them to reach escape velocity.

The early returns from Anime being strongly in favor of the proposal, we are pleased to vote Yes. Historically, Anime has usually favored environmental proposals, so we expect our vote will stand here.

The only reason to be using leaded fuels in this day and age is because you started using them forty years ago.
There's no reason for developing nations not to use cheaper, safer, modern technology- you don't have to make the same industrial age mistakes as those more fortunate.
