[DEFEATED] Condemn Kantanska

Postby SkyDip » Thu Oct 31, 2013 10:03 pm

STATING that the Security Council and its members have a moral obligation to defend justice and the right throughout the NS World.

INFORMING that The Most Holy People's Republic of Kantanska (DPRK) has throughout its long and storied history been a nation of peace, progress, and prosperity; the benefits of which have been used to further improve the lives of Kantanskans.

RECOGNIZING that the Kantanskans have come under the rule of an illegitimate oppressive government that maintains power by lavishing funds on the DPRK’s Police and Military and giving those forces the spy on citizens in their homes, enforcing a mandatory nationwide DNA database, tracking the movements of every vehicle registered in Kantanska, ect.

OBSERVING that any citizen or Member of the Kantanskan Parliament (MKP Kantanska) who dares to speak out against the regime is abducted by the State Security Forces and rarely if ever seen again.

DISTURBED that the administration of Director-General Diago has permitted the Government of Kantanska to become horrifically corrupt with loyal MKP’s being rewarded with landed estates and piles of Kants. It is known that compared to the world average Director-General Diago’s Administration has lead Kantanska ever higher on the lists of corrupt governments.

FURTHER stating that Kantanska has, under Diago, become an increasingly militaristic country with the government pouring trillions of Kants into weapons programs and stating in government policy “We do hereby state that the right to respond to any aggressive action is reserved and the response to an aggressive act may not be proportional to said action. The Peoples Republic also asserts its right to develop, maintain, and if necessary deploy Nuclear, Radiological, and Chemical arsenals.”

ALARMED that with Kantanskas increasing militancy that the deployment of these weapons becomes ever more likely.

NOTING that Kantanska has intervened or even occupied multiple sovereign nations in a quest for geopolitical power and/or resources.

NAUSEATED that the Kantanskan Parliament (Kantanska) has been stacked through previously illegal methods with Director-General Diagos cronies through an astronomical perversion of the democratic process.

AGHAST that the coffers of the Kantanskan Treasury are proverbially overflowing with Kants yet the Treasury continues to seize all of the average Kantanskans income in taxes.

TROUBLED by the attempts of the Government and the Director-General to brainwash the population of Kantanska by the sinister means of public loudspeakers under the authority of government censors, total control of the press, re-education camps, and the “correcting” of curriculum in Kantanskas schools.

DETESTING that the economy of Kantanska is under near total government control and that economy is almost entirely devoted to Arms Manufacture.

APPALLED that a significant proportion of the DPRK citizens slave in State owned manufactories until their deaths, whether from overwork or an inability to continue; at such time they are eliminated.

ACKNOWLEDGING that that these innumerable actions are an affront to human rights and far outside the accepted norm.

FURTHER states that the Security Council has the right and duty to recognize and condemn such abominable actions by a government against its own citizens and those subject to Kantanskan jurisdiction in occupied areas.

HEREBY condemns the Government of The Most Holy People's Republic of Kantanska for its infuriating crimes.

And now I am also lodging a vote AGAINST this proposal purely on the grounds that this was sent straight to submission and skipped over the forum. Which makes an old man like me sad.

I can't vote to condemn Kantanska. They're a more moderate nation than my own. In fact, I don't see how this even got to the council.

Reaching quorum nowadays is just $2.00 American away. Anyone can spam Delegates for approvals, which is another reason that skipping over the forum editing phase miffs me a bit.

The Queen has ruled that voting against such an unjustly created Council vote is an appropriate action, and that any motions taken against Kantanska should be done so within proper protocols.

I don't see much evidence for what this nation has done to deserve this condemnation. it's surprisingly well written, but if the *author* had put this up for consideration before submission, perhaps we could have hashed this out. I am AGAINST this because there is no immediate evidence supporting the assertions in the proposal.

I poked through the nominee's posts on the forum, didn't really see anything significant behind this. Makes me wonder how the author found out of all the nations this one to nominate. ;)

Yeah, I voted on it as early as I could. I can see no reasoning behind the resolution itself and it looks as if the author has just pulled things out of thin air. The lack of a thread about it by the author didn't help the situation either.

The North Pacific's forum has also voted against this resolution.

Well like everyone here I read this proposal and by the end found myself scratching my head in confusion, their is almost no evidence to support such a proposal.

NOTING that Kantanska has intervened or even occupied multiple sovereign nations in a quest for geopolitical power and/or resources.

I rummaged through all the records I could and any amount of evidence I could pull up was next to none.

We would like to point out that while aggression against peaceful nations and atrocities are and ought to be punished, we recognize the right of government to tax its citizenry, in the interest of national sovereignty.

We cannot and will not support this resolution, and frankly, we think that if this resolution passes, it would be equally kosher to condemn any form of government simply for existing, which is in and of itself an act of undue aggression.

A well written resolution but it's entiely based on how their leader voted on issued. I don't even see anything wrong with the fact that their economy is based on arms manufacturing.

...I don't get this. I don't see any reason here to condemn them, it just uses a lot of flowery language to say "the author of this resolution does not like Katanska."

AGAINST

This nation is hardly the worst example of a dictatorship in NationStates, and it shouldn't be up to the SC to condemn all dictatorships, as it sets a dangerous predicament for the SC to become the "democracy police"

Greater Watford as a nation doesn't support the existence of dictatorships or unelected governments, but we feel it is up to individual nations and regions to sort out their problems, not the SC.

Gregoryisgodistan, via its delegate in the Gregoryisgodistan Special Administration Zone, believes Kantanska should be commended, not condemned, for its actions in showing the right way to govern a nation. Their sole failure is not recognizing Lord Almighty Gregory as God.

At the behest of Prime Minister Jack Layston, I have been instructed to cast a vote of NAY for this resolution. We echo the sentiments of our esteemed colleagues in this debate, and see no need to rehash them. I hope for this resolutions speedy demise, so we can move on to more important matters.

Warmest regards,

Why condem a nation?

Postby Heiwa Pa » Fri Nov 01, 2013 9:22 am

Instead of condemning the country, why don't we join together and remove the current leader from power? If we condemn a whole nation wouldn't that be bad for the people in the country? After all we may be able to condemn the nation, but the citizens would still be under the same rule, if you are looking to free them, then the best thing to do would be to plan a way to remove the director from power, if we do that and choose a temporary leader for that nation that would be able to get them back on track and put the people of Kanatanska first, it might be possible to keep the people safe as well as free. It would also be beneficial to the World Assembly as they have resources that may be necessary in the coming days.

I don't want to discuss the reasons why publicly. If you really want to know telegram me.

I am miffed that it's literally the EXACT same one he submitted a year ago. Didn't even change my name in the proposal even though I changed it ingame.

OOC: Unprofessional tone, several grammatical mistakes, clearly a personal vendetta, etc. etc. etc.

IC: Zarkanians sees no evidence to support these accusations. Zarkanians does not view local politics as anything the SC should be involved in. It is firmly AGAINST this proposal.

If you send enough telegraphs, you'll find enough of the delegates who just created regions for their own nations and their friends (IE the ones who are playing casually). Not that playing casually is a bad thing; they're just more likely to support nonsense proposals.

The Imperium recognises that this is not the most effective, nor the most moral, means of running a government, but this resolution would be passed purely on the Kantanskans' government style, and no real atrocities performed by them.
