Then my suggestion for you is to leave the WA, because eventually, EVERYTHING here can be argued down as NatSov.

Just because a nation believes strongly in the principles of NatSov doesn't mean they need to be shown the door. There are plenty of reasons that NatSov nations would join this assembly and then voice their opinions. Retaliating with a "then get out" sort of response only fosters resentment.

And in the case of certain delegates high enough concentration in general can be fatal.

:lol2:

Do we need a 'Concentrate On The Resolution Act'?

ADDED: Now I'm not sure if you meant that delegates don't concentrate, or that concentrated exposure to certain delegates is fatal. :p

FURTHER ADDED:
With credit to Knootoss for the original Read the Resolution Act.
Concentrate on the Resolution Act
A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.
Category: Furtherment of Democracy | Strength: Mild | Proposed by: Discoveria

Description: The World Assembly,

APPLAUDING GAR#122: Read the Resolution Act for requiring member-states to have at least one sapient, literate person reading each World Assembly resolution that comes to a vote,

NOTING however that the simple act of reading a single resolution from beginning to end may seriously tax this person's ability to concentrate, pay attention, and focus on the resolution,

REAFFIRMING the principle that voting on World Assembly resolutions is both a great privilege and a great responsibility,

SEEKING to ensure that this responsibility is carried out as effectively as possible,

Hereby:

1. MANDATES that all member-states' WA delegations maintain a staff comprising at least one sapient and literate employee, who can also reliably and reproducibly demonstrate an ability to concentrate on:

a) the task of reading the entire text of any WA resolution that comes up for debate, and
b) the task of reporting their findings back to their national government,

2. CLARIFIES that an employee who can only concentrate on one of the tasks listed in clause 1, who then requires a relaxing (but not excessively long) break before before concentrating the remaining task(s), meets the requirements of clause 1,

3. RECOMMENDS that member-states provide any support that may be required - medical, psychological, financial, ergonomic or otherwise - to maintain the above employee's ability to concentrate on their tasks.

Lots of nations here have some degree of NatSov beliefs. But all resolutions are violations of NatSov; the majority of nations forces their beliefs on the minority. If you don't want that to happen, being in here is probably not a good thing for you to do; you will be generally miserable here. Karpathos simply invoked NatSov without any explanation why.

Mardenstrum's reason.

Postby Mardenstrum » Sat Sep 14, 2013 9:14 am

His Royal Highness, in agreement with the Prime Minister and the rest of the government, were for this Act to be passed, as not only will it ensure a safer future for all mankind, but also because any nation that possesses nuclear technology, namely nuclear weaponry, is a risk and dangerous threat.

The reason why nations choose to arm themselves with nuclear weaponry is because, despite the fact that some of the dictatorial nations have evil or crazed leaders, the peaceful nations choose to arm themselves out of fear of the "evil" nations.

Nations with Uranium Mining Standards are nations that should know that nuclear weaponry is unnecessary.

However, to eliminate the "fear" of these "evil" nations, one must look to preventing crazed leaders from rising to power, through peaceful deliberation, negotiation and secretive ways. If we must eliminate evil, we cannot bomb it, as it would make us no better than them. Secrecy and stealth must be used, to ensure the downfall of a tyrant, without prejudicing everyone else.

But returning to the subject at hand, as eliminating evil is something for the Security Council to discuss, this act was also favoured by Mardenstrum as it is environmentally better that what it currently is. And His Royal Highness ever so loves his parks and forests.

The reasons for your support seem a little out of touch. Just because nations want to improve and standardize the standards for safety doesn't have any bearing on their stance on nuclear weaponry. Besides, the C.D.S.P. is a peaceful nation. We own nuclear warheads not out of fear of tinpot dictators, but out of an interest in efficiency when it comes to blowing things.

Understood. His Royal Highness still advises caution, however the efficiency. But indeed, this is mainly for environmental purposes and personal safety, which is very important. I was instructed by His Highness to mention it though, for future events.

A large potted plant in a big plantpot with wheels suddenly comes to life, revealing a large leaf curled up to form a cone, from which a somewhat hissing voice can be heard:

"Because this proposal concerns only "virgin" uranium that is being mined for the first time, it does not concern us and as such we will abstain from the vote."

OOC: Watch "Little Shop of Horrors" if you can. Either version. :P

New Nation, Advice Needed

Postby East-Central America » Sat Sep 14, 2013 3:14 pm

Dear Whoever It May Concern -

In sight of recent events of the War for Oil, 2014, The Rouge Nation of East-Central America has decided to join the World Assembly. As it could bring an opportunity for us to be independent from America's laws. Louisiana has recently found a new oil reserve just south from the state itself. What I would like to know, as the president of this fine nation, is how can this amendment can help me with the oil industry, even though it does not concern me, it affects me. So give me a reason to stay in the World Assembly, the answer does not have to be in context to the amendment, I just need a reason to abide by the laws set by the World Assembly.

Thank You,
President George Conn

This resolution doesn't affect your mining for oil, but several previously passed resolutions will affect your ability to do just that. I think that, upon revision of those resolutions, you will be able to make an informed decision as per your membership in the Festering Snakepit.

Part three of the proposal says that a survey needs to be conducted in order to ensure the protection of habitats. We didn't have to do any of that when we built our major cities. All I'm saying is, we need to start thinking of ourselves a little more.

Unless your major cities were constructed well after your nation was considered "developed", odds are that you weren't in a position to be doing dramatic damage to your environment until your cities were almost complete. Come to think of it, odds are that your cities didn't have much environmental impact in the grand scheme of things until recently. Fortunately, a survey is a relatively inexpensive act that requires a few scientists, a few days, and minor funding, and the result is a significant step towards mitigation of environmental degradation by developed nations.

**The representative from Capitalists Producers stands. He is holding a copy of the Uranium Mining Standards Act. He rolls it, sets the end on fire, then uses it to light a cigar. He gazes around the room...**

We in Capitalist Producers want to assure everyone those mines are not producing Uranium. Those mines are producing petrified waste material produced by ancient male bovines that wandered the region years ago. We regularly ship this material to the WA so they may never run out.

We consider this matter trivial. So trivial that we've decided the need for inspectors and the like is a waste of WA funds. Therefore at no expense to the WA, we loaded the WA inspection teams into troop transports, carted the lot of 'em off to the nearest base and flew 'em back to the WA where they and their luggage were dropped off. (Oh yeah, we'll be wanting those parachutes back in good order or we will deduct the cost from our WA taxes.)

Hope this resolves all your concerns.

**The ambassador begins to sit, then thinks of one other thing... **

Oh yeah, my government does not ever want to have to talk to you about this again.
