The author is obviously biased in his accusations but I think he makes some valid points about the condemned. I hope you'll consider changing your vote.

AGAINST, for obvious reasons.

However, we wish to propose a commendation of The Dourian Embassy for their exposure of the WA members who fail to observe due diligence in their duties as voters. As long as someone NOT named The Dourian Embassy writes that commendation...

Postby Gullud » Sat Nov 10, 2012 2:04 pm

When I agreed to take over the post of WA Ambassador from Benefia Ren, she and I sat down and discussed what she had been working on in the WA on behalf of my nation. She told me about some of the characters in the WA and who she has worked closely with. She told me what to report to the Parliament before voting, and when to call in the PM and/the Parliament before voting on behalf of the Most Serene Nation of Gullud, and when you can just vote because informing the PM, the 2M, and/or the full Parliament are a complete waste of their time because you know which way they would want you to vote. She told me that most of the proposals were intelligent and the WA was the place that I can shine for my nation and prove myself a great political speaker and debater as I have an eye on being PM or Second Minister of Gullud one day.

So, I arrive at the WA headquarters and find this mess of a proposal as my first vote out of the gate. While there are a lot of nations in the world and the cream does rise to the top, so do the worst of the lot. When the WA condemns a nation, the good nations have some idea what the evil nation has done to create this. What this proposal feels like to me and to my predecessor's attaché is that this is a situation where the subject of this self-condemnation is looking for some self-promotion. Having worked as an Ambassador to 3 nations before moving the post at the WA, I know what a raided region looks like. Osiris does not show any of the signs that the region has been raided. The only factual statement in the whole proposal is that the region just "became" instead of being founded. While I am unclear on the international laws that pertain to founder-less regions, my understanding that the founder or the WA delegate for the region only have the power to decide what way the region should go and which nations, if any, need to be removed. A region of over 27 hundred is not a region that is banning many nations or being raided. So, I am not seeing the a raid here. The Dourian Embassy is not a well known great nation or an major evil power. While they are a large and powerful nation, they are not their regional delegate nor are the a nation that I think of when I think of evil nations.

The "Condemn..." proposal is for nations like Milograd (the subject of 2 condemnation resolutions). Nations that ooze the worst intentions of humanity to the world. The type of nation that gets heads of state, like my own nation's PM Boudicca Rhyess to come to the halls of the WA to speak passionately about the trouble that the other nation is causing to the world by having their power unchecked. This is not the case of The Dourian Embassy. For this reason, in my first vote on behalf of the Most Serene Nation of Gullud, I vote nay [against] Condemn The Dourian Embassy.

Thank you. I'm glad to see this meaningless resolution voted down. I find it abhorrent that the author would try to frame my actions in such a way.

It reached quorum because the author rightly saw the need for a condemnation of the Dourian Embassy. I stand with the Dourian Embassy on this issue.

The Dourian Embassy is part of the rebel alliance and a traitor!!! We must Condemn The Dourian Embassy!

Furthermore, I think we should also Commend the brilliant author of this resolution The Dourian Embassy for his swift action against this terror known as The Dourian Embassy.
No one I think is in my tree, I mean it must be high or low.
That is you can't you know tune in but it's all right.
That is I think it's not too bad.

OOC:
Right, so I get a message from the Kingdom of Jim Henson, saying I should condemn a nation who has, on more than one occasion, assisted the NS game, then come here and find the condemned is also the condemner.

This is the point where I put in a request for two things from the Moderati:
  1. The removal of the resolution from voting, despite the fact it'll be voted down anyway; and
  2. The relationship, if any, between Jim Henson and The Dourian Embassy, as I fear there may be something more sinister at play here.

IC:
Stephanie read the resolution at hand. She wasn't in when it was proposed, and she was so glad she wasn't. But sadly it was here, having achieved quorum, and there was only one course of action she could take with this. She tore the draft up, and hit the Against button.

Now let's hope and pray we do not encounter another such resolution in these halls again.

What? Are you joking, or just impossibly green? You can't remove a resolution once it has gotten to vote, and there is no law whatsoever against using puppets for your own purposes, as long as you're not doing so to violate the rules.

Not what I'm getting at at all, Kenny. If my memory of the rules is correct, it is possible for a resolution to be removed should the circumstances deem it overwhelmingly necessary (as it is a major lot of code work, not impossible, but tedious). In this case, I do have a strange feeling this may be one of those situations, and not because of the puppetry direction (hence, and possibly despite, why I'm wondering about the relationship between the two nations).

And just why do you think this harmless joke of a proposal is so incredibly important it warrants a major effort by the mods to break precedent and remove it from the queue? They didn't even remove Max Barry Day, a blatantly illegal GA proposal, despite a much larger outrage. Care to share the why, or do you have some monstrously, terribly secret intelligence you can't reveal?

No, that is not a rule. It's just the stated reason for why they don't make a habit of deleting passed resolutions. The last resolution to be removed was in 2004, and that was only because they were in the process of transferring the entire gamecode to another server, anyway.

Because he doesn't want to be condemned and I'm sure he is shocked and appalled by the Dourian Embassy's attempt to condemn him. You would be too if you tried to condemn yourself, which he has, which is a very good reason to condemn him. It's not that difficult to figure out, unless of course you consider his acts condemnable, in which case I would think you would want to commend him.
