As it stands:

The Security Council,

Noting the reputation of [nation=noflag]Yohannes[/nation] as a nation epitomising neutrality and diplomacy, and that it maintains a stabilising presence in ten regions including Ellorea, Gholgoth and Greater Dienstad via its overseas territories;

Further noting that Yohannes' foreign policy and extensive overseas relations create a network of strong diplomatic ties, which dissuade war and promote peace and commerce, and realising that currently over 500 embassies are hosted in the Empire,

Acknowledging the willingness of Yohannes' government to conduct peace talks and to engage freely in diplomacy with other nations, as well as the generosity of the imperial treasury towards nations it considers less fortunate, including, but not limited to, donations to countries enduring crises such as that afflicting [nation=short+noflag]Panzara[/nation], wherin the treasury donated the sum of 756,000,000,000 Universal Standard Dollars to the Panzaran government;

Admiring Yohannes' strong opposition towards slavery;

Approving of the fact that Yohannes is a signatory of the Amistad Declaration on Slavery and the Rights of Man, a slavery-prohibiting document, as well as being deeply committed diplomatically and financially to the World Anti-Slavery Organization;

Recognising Yohannes' establishment of the Sovereign League, an international organisation which aims to empower those nations which may suffer from having a first language other than English, and to provide a platform for trade and diplomacy among such nations, promote the teaching of other members' languages at university level and preserve "its member-nations' respective cultures, history, linguistic traits as well as traditions";

Aware of the importance of many Yohannesian firms as major exporters and market-defining institutions with significant influence within the global economy, including the "Big Four" of Yohannes' corporate and industrial companies:
  • VMK Defence & Steel Works, which has defined the perception of modern armoured vehicles, selling products to an export base of over 300 nations and investing across more than 400 nations,
  • Royal Beaufort Shipwrights Guild, furthering interregional trade by providing overseas commercial shipping, and a firm which has been noted for its generosity to such aid organisations as the Santherese Humanitarian Society, to which it donated 8 Ardfontein-class multi-purpose vessels to assist in the Society's selfless efforts,
  • Yohannesische Börse AG, among the largest international stock exchanges, providing listings of numerous major corporations and selling stock, bonds and commodities, and which, due to its strong importance for the international community, is the model for many other stock exchanges, and
  • Yohannesische Bundesbank, the monetary authority of, and largest financial institution in, the Empire of Yohannes, which provides banking services to many of the world's major firms and governments and has a presence in over one hundred nations, in addition to acting in a capacity as monetary aid and donor to countless nations of the international community,
and recognising the importance of these, and other, Yohannesian institutions to innumerable international businesses, noting the vital roles fulfilled by these firms in the furthering of international commerce;

Believing Yohannes to be a positive example to the entire world;

Hereby commends [nation=short+noflag]Yohannes[/nation].

Co-authored by [nation=short+noflag]Milograd[/nation] and [nation=short+noflag]Unibot II[/nation].

I agree. Yohannes is an excellent mentor in the GE&T community (as that's the place I frequent the most) and probably a bunch of other places as well. I don't see a reason to vote against, and quite frankly, am quite surprised that the vote is even.

The Sources below are not just good examples of GE&T. Yohannes has also encouraged others, including me, to develop the economics aspect of the game, which has not only added richness to my own roleplaying but that of my region and other regions that interact with mine on a roleplaying basis. In short, his work has enhanced the game for a number of others and raised the bar for making nations more in depth. He has encouraged good writing improvement in a friendly way that i have very much appreciated. So I encourage people: Commend Yohannes.

Why was this Commend submitted just now? Why wasn't it submitted 2 years ago, when this thread seemed actually active?
So far, the proposal and its commend-candidate seem appropriate enough, although my vote shall remain firmly nonexistent until I have a clearer light on the subject, including the motives of the submitter in submitting this (honestly though, I kind of feel like leaning towards against, if only because the proposal feels like some sort of response to Liberate Haven, and I absolutely do not want the pettiness of that discussion to be continued. But then again, annoyance is a very unreasonable cause for such a vote, and another honest thing, the proposal seems very reasonable, especially in light of 'new' evidence).

Yohannes left NS for a year or two, and Lamoni and I briefly managed the nation. Commending it then would have just seemed self-congratulatory when neither account-holder had any right to this commendation. I'd be lying if I said Liberate Haven wasn't involved in my decision to submit, but it's more that it reminded me that I had gotten involved in the SC before and had a draft still written than any desire for petty revenge. That's Liberate Mallorea and Riva was for. :p

Reviewing the resolution very carefully, Ms. Achebe Mizialand's Ambassador to the W.A. sends the following report to the External Affairs Office:

"After reviewing the resolution very carefully and with due consultations with all my advisories, I recommend Her Majesty's Government to vote against the said resolution. While I agree that the Kingdom of Yohannes has been one of the respected allies of our country and deserves commendation for various purposes, this resolution simply does not get into the heart of it.

The first clause of the resolution mentions Yohannes maintaining various "overseas territories" (which is a fancy term for colonies). This clearly implies imperialistic tendencies and ideals of this nation which totally oppose the principles of the World Assembly. May I remind you that opposition to imperialism is one of them? If the members pass this resolution, they would once again prove the hypocrisy of this organisation.

The Mizia foreign policy also discourages wars and so does that of many peace loving nations. I hope that the members need not be reminded that commendation is given to nations that have truly jetted out - many of the WA members have foreign policies which is against war but they are not being commended for it while Yohannes is. Yet another example of the hypocrisy and favouritism that prevails here.

Her Majesty's Government periodically donates money to charities. A significant portion of our GDP is given out as aid to developing and under developed nations. Yohannes simply does not stands out in this sphere.

If Yohannes were to be commended simply for "opposing slavery" and being a signatory of the Amistad Declaration then all such opposer and signatories are worthy of a commendation. Furthermore, I would like to remind the members of the crime Yohannes has been guilty of in the past - primarily related to apartheid and imperialism. This resolution, if allowed to pass will merely add to the already proven hypocrisy of the W.A.

The Soverign League has failed to make any significant impact in the cultural sphere. I would not hesitate in commenting that it a failed, defunct organisation - which was intended as a mere catalyst in exporting Yohannesian ideologies to foreign lands.

The only clause which signifies Yohannes standing out is the last one related to the impact it has made on Global Economics and Trade, though this is not a very significant reason to commend the said nation.

Finally, I believe that this commendation is a mere attempt to block the controversial Liberate Haven proposal. This is intolerable misuse of the S.C. and waste of its precious time. Therefore, I request all members not to follow the crowd, to think out carefully and then exercise their choice. Every vote matters - we request members to use it responsibly."

The WA is not necessarily opposed to imperialism.

It's not hypocrisy if anti-war policies aren't the only things being the cause for commendation.

Furthermore, I would like to remind the members of the crime Yohannes has been guilty of in the past - primarily related to apartheid and imperialism. That was a minor phase in Yohannes's development, one that the nation is not only done with, but also has more than made up for. Hence, the addition of that clause in their commendation.

Finally, I believe that this commendation is a mere attempt to block the controversial Liberate Haven proposal. This is intolerable misuse of the S.C. and waste of its precious time. Trying to block out something as controversial as Liberate Haven with something as sensible as this proposal (or something that at least tries to lead to a sensible debate) is not an 'intolerable misuse of the SC', but a fairly common way of, er, what do you call it, politicizing? Something like that.

The WA does not rule out giving commendations to nations which have (or have had) colonies, and never has done.

The Mizia foreign policy also discourages wars and so does that of many peace loving nations. I hope that the members need not be reminded that commendation is given to nations that have truly jetted out - many of the WA members have foreign policies which is against war but they are not being commended for it while Yohannes is. This is not hypocrisy. Yohannes' stance on war is not on trial here.

Her Majesty's Government periodically donates money to charities. A significant portion of our GDP is given out as aid to developing and under developed nations. Yohannes simply does not stands out in this sphere.

There is nothing at all wrong with pointing out the good works a country does as part of a commendation, especially giving money to charitable organizations. Even if a nation does not "stand out" by doing so.

Yohannes has not practiced apartheid, or imperialism for a long time, and that really is no longer relevant, at this time. Opposing slavery is noteworthy in and of itself, as anti-slaver nations refuse to look at human beings as mere property. Furthermore, not all anti-slaver nations are up for a commendation here. Yohannes is.

Finally, I believe that this commendation is a mere attempt to block the controversial Liberate Haven proposal. This is intolerable misuse of the S.C. and waste of its precious time.
