As this resolution is inconsistent with the World Assembly's commitment to freedom of religion, we respectfully urge a vote against. The Moderately Liberal Unitary Republic will not single out any religious holiday for the purposes of, ah, "bringing joy" regardless of any Security Council direction to that effect.

We are also curious as to why such directive to member nations excludes non-citizen residents of said states.

If this resolution does not pass, the delegation of the Arctic Confederation of Samicana would like to make it clear that it will exit the World Assembly and encourage all other moral nations to do the same.

A MESSAGE FROM THE WORLD ASSEMBLY BRANCH OF THE LIBERZAN OUTSIDE-OF-ROLEPLAY DEPARTMENT

“The Liberzan Empire is, frankly, disgusted that the World Assembly bothered to put this on our plate, instead of anything remotely related to the NationStates community, such as the upcoming “Condemn Tinhampton” proposal. As many have said, this proposal is forcing a religious holiday, albeit one that Liberza celebrates, on nations that may not be religious, or at least Christian. Now, our main point is that this is simply worthless. It is not funny, clever, or helpful. And also, the lyrics are corny. Like, seriously? ‘No more fights over C and C, R and D and RNTs’? ‘More citizens to say cheese’?

After the passage of ‘Injunct Bozarkia’ we cannot possibly be surprised that the Security Council is voting in favor of this proposal. However, this means nothing—the sense-making community has already made its choice.”

Personally methinks it's absolutely ridiculous. Not only do I hate Mariah Carey with a passion, but that song makes me want to bang my head to a wall and cry into my pillow. I'm voting against it. And what point do you think this will make? Make everyone enjoy making the Christmas tree? Ha. Pathetic.

I'd be willing to sing as well, already practiced beforehand, and thus I vote for :p

Can we take a minute to realise how absolutely drool-mouthed and go-be-stupid society is? Like the dumbness of society is so sheerly blunt and the sharper one's of us just sink back into the blunt, because that's what everyone wants you to do. Screw society.

Forgive me, but is this resolution not illegal on the following grounds?:

1. It refers to a real life holiday/religious observance, whereas any ingame references to a similar holiday typically refer to "Maxxmas", not "Christmas".

2. I'm aware Max Barry, nearly 20 years ago, received a cease and desist order from the United Nations in response to his using of the name, "United Nations" for what was eventually renamed the "World Assembly". Given previous brushes with Copyright Law concerning the World Assembly, I question the wisdom of adoping, or even bringing to a vote, the current resolution, given that Mariah Carey's artistic work has been used (albeit re-worded to better suit NationStates) without any attribution to her, and presumebly without her knowledge or permission.

While I'm not knowledgeable enough to provide information on the first item, Ambassador, as I recall copyright law permits people to create parodies of songs without running into legal trouble by default. If parody was illegal, after all, I would not be receiving eighteen thousand YouTube recommendations for her song with various effects added, like every other beat removed or some such.

"This, in particular, rubs me the wrong way as well. The WA has no business endorsing religious holidays over non-religious holidays, nor one specific religion and its observances over any other given religion. This is not an acceptable use of WA, nor SC, delegate time and resources."
