((OOC: No; it's a colloquial term (which is why it is surrounded by quotation marks) that is defined in the resolution.))

OOC: When I first read the term, I honestly thought it meant patents on submarines and that this had something to do with the submarine warfare proposal. :lol2:

What was that Brother Maynard? No I'm not drunk. Well perhaps a little. That previous resolution was annoying. Patents you say? Well, whatever it is, I'm against it. Even if the repeal argument is correct, I'm against it. It really silly, actually, the whole renewal thing. It says quite clearly in the resolution, "minimum term of the patent shall be at least 20 years" and does not state a maximum. Therefore the maximum is "infinity and beyond!" ...

Brother Maynard, I am most definitely buzzed, in fact I'm downright drunk, why do you insist I am not buzzed ...

Oh you meant I'm not Buzz Lightyear. Never mind then.

Still against.

*an email flashes across a screen at Eugene Danson III's usual place in the Assembly Hall, and reads:*

"Good evening/morning from New Sanscroix, my fellow Assemblymen/women. I regrettably cannot physically join you in the Hall today, as I am currently overseeing the organization of a Betoverian Embassy in the colonial city of Granjuria, and it has kept me busy for longer than I had anticipated. From here, I would like to declare my support for this repeal, in hopes that it will be replaced by a piece of legislation which will prevent nations such as Jarish Inyo from dodging the implicit regulations therein. I nod to Chester Pearson, who has undoubtedly given this his famed "APPROVED" stamp. I look forward to seeing it grace the front page of this legislation when I return following its inevitable passage. Thank you all, and have an excellent day.

Eugene V. Danson,
Assemblyman from Betoveria"

*following this, the screen flicked to an image of the Betoverian flag.*

IMPERIAL MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

At the behest of Prime Minister Jack Layston, we are pleased to cast our vote of AYE. We are glad to see that yet another resolution of absolutely no international relevance will be stricken, and dearly hope the trend continues.

While we support this repeal wholeheartedly, we will not support a replacement of any kind, and are glad this matter is being placed back under national jurisdiction where it rightly belongs.....

Warmest regards,

I'm afraid the author already has plans to rewrite this himself.

On the provision that a new, improved version of the legislation is put to vote as soon as possible, we vote for.

"I have voted for. I do not believe this to be an international issue exclusive to the WA, and believe such legislation an unfair restriction on those that are members."

I had originally voted against this but have now switched my vote, following as usual the running tally of The North Pacific's forum poll.

I am personally in support of the repeal. I have my issues with the proposed replacement, but independently of that, GA#93 has been widely acknowledged to be problematic and ought to be repealed.

We have reconsidered our position on this repeal. Repealing the mild free trade resolution, "The General Patent Charter" will drive our nation even further down the economic road to hell by eliminating whatever minuscule free trade our nation had in the first place. Some people suggest that the lack of patent recognition could lead to a major industrial revolution in our crappy nation as private industry would steal every good idea from every other nation and use it for the great glory of profit. Fortunately, we have completely crushed our private sector, so there is no chance that we can steal our way to recovery.

No indeed, we have decided to vote for this, because it will only harm our economy and every other economy. Most people do not delight in frustration, but we do. Therefore we have changed our vote to "FOR" and may the Lord grant you the wisdom to accept the outcome of your decision.

"Yes, we're glad to say-" *muffled sounds of protest* "Yes, see here, I don't see why this should be repealed! I've certainly made a success from this!" says renowned Neo-Chicagoan "inventor" Ed Thompson. "Seriously though, I don't see what's wrong with this charter. I conduct business, and frankly, this charter has helped my corporation provide to the public. While of course, making a few bucks while we're at it." *slides a bribe over to one of the ballot counters* "Frankly, I can't think of any substitution another nation could come up with to replace patents. If they don't want to recognize my patents, that's too bad for them." he growls, spitting on every t.

I feel that this law would help people to not be mislead by a false producer and would let companies be more open with their ideas without worrieing that their creation being stripped from them and would also make the patenting laws a little less vague and draw a clear line. This I believe will futher encourage creativity and ingenuity.

Ps I am new so I might sound stupid
