Why do you need to shoot Javelins from a tank? Are gun-launched ATGMs not enough? Not that they are necessary at all unless you don't think your main gun is enough.

What might happen if a country were to collectively realize that it isn't having enough children? I'd guess Japan would be the soonest case of that happening, given their weird social norms(I seem to recall reading that even their dating rates have been plummeting) but I don't know if a country has ...

Yet medicine was for its time very good. I recently heard the story of how diabetes was first diagnosed, in Ancient Greece; physicians noticed that the urine from people who had certain symptoms was constantly attracting honey bees. They correctly guessed that - because bees really like sugar - the ...

Interesting. Is it possible that regular soldiers might have some glimmer of medical knowledge? I'm sure it doesn't take a genius to realize that putting pressure on a stab or gunshot wound means less blood comes out. Not that it might make that much of a difference. Also, how did soldiers deal with...

How much would a single qualified surgeon be able to care for the soldiers in his unit? Given how complex modern combat medicine and recovery can be despite the high level of care soldiers get on and off the battlefield, would most of the injured soldiers in even a smallish Napoleonic battle die or ...

1 ) End all political purging of staff. How? Quite simple. Change the American mindset to one more focused on the military then establish a military government. Now Generals won't get purged for political reasons/controversial shit. tfw civilian control of the military leads to a more effective mil...

Did a battalion REALLY have that many surgeons in the Prussian tradition? I know only the Russian and french usage of physicians, but six seems really high? Do you mean barber-surgons or Feldshers? I basically copied the numbers from here and changed it a little to add to my flair/try and alleviate...

Just need a little help here. Breqhou is a European microstate with a tiny population of 600 people, and a tiny paramilitary force of 15 men. This force wouldn't be able to do much in a realistic situation but I was wondering how effective it would be if we adopted the Andorran system where all fam...

To be honest, I'm surprised there hasn't been a Thirty Years' War title yet. It was a hugely important time in European history, and is one of the last periods where melee weapons were still relevant in the age of gunpowder, aside from the English Civil War. It would be interesting to see how raidin...

Alt-history Prussian army time! Circa 1800: The infantry regiment is the basic unit with which Prussian generals lead armies. A Prussian infantry regiment is divided into the following: - General Staff - 1 Artillery battery(6 guns nominally) - 2 Grenadier companies - 2 Musketier battalions Each musk...

Speed of movement would have to be taken into account in any post-Napoleonic Total War, as trains really came into their own in that period. I for one get aroused at the idea of using Belgium as a speed bump into France but defense would get much easier as you can move your troops around much quicke...

Why did Harry Truman have a hate-boner for the USMC? I heard somewhere that it was because of some bad business with the Marines in WWI, but I haven't been able to find anything on it.

I meant armor alone doesn't make the tank. Didn't say it did. But being impervious to almost all anti tank fire isn't exactly a disadvantage. It is when you end up with a bunker and not a tank. How are you going to put that on a train or ship? It's going to need specialized equipment for everything...

And? The Matildas were invulnerable to almost everything except 88s and 105mm field guns, yet their combat service was decidedly less than stellar. And nothing? I corrected him. I didn't say anything about its performance. I meant armor alone doesn't make the tank. And? The Matildas were invulnerab...

>At gun one shoting it through the sides, detonating ammo killing the massive crew Vast majority of AT guns in the late 30s won't penetrate any part of the tank (minimum 60mm thick except the roof and floor) beyond 100m, and won't penetrate the front plate, front of the turrets, or the sides of the...

When dragoons dismounted to fight on foot, what did they do to their horses? Did dragoons carry a spike to tie their horse to, or did some dragoons stay with the horses to make sure they didn't get away? Ideally in a pickle they'd be trained to stay put by themselves Horses don't do that. At least ...
