401st Ostehern concluded

DECEMBER 14 2020 | FNN News Desk | Porohare

Two days of Ostehern celebrations across the country, blessed by surprisingly comfortable weather, are coming to an end. Authorities estimate that over a million Osters visited the country's parks, national sites, and urban attractions. For the first time in his term, President Den Heyes could not come to the Aastrehe tehn'temar commemoration event in central Haalban due to his physical situation. Prime Minister Brahurer attended instead.

Yesterday also marked the end of the traditional second-period of mourning over the two Oster soldiers who were killed three years ago in Lovsk, Ostehern 2017. The two families hosted a small gathering with relatives and close friends at the Brukhjmehr residence in Saard. Off in Lovsk, troops stationed across the island had to remain alert due to terror threats, and holiday events were shortened or cancelled.

Brahurer on Balnik's Faronna Islands Plan: "Encourages Hostility"

DECEMBER 14 2020 | FNN security commentator Dina Mahkhjer | Porohare

Prime Minister Elena Brahurer spoke to the press at a government meeting today, and referred to the situation in Faronna Islands following Balnik's announcement of its Faronna Islands Development Plan. The plan was announced less than a week after Balnik suddenly occupied the economic zone, which it used to share with Roendavar since 1983.

"Balnik has been a destabilizing factor in the region for quite a while," Brahurer said. "Their actions against the Roendavarian side in the past year were left without a proper response and they got it as a signal to go ahead and escalate the situation on the ground." She referred to the intrusion of Roendavarian airspace a few months ago and its military mobilization in the past months. "The occupation itself is heavily disputed, so announcing plans to develop the area after the Roendavarians said they would take this to the ICJ - That is intentionally encouraging hostility. Balnik should re-think its strategy," the Prime Minister concluded. Roendavar's government had stated its intention to file a case on the matter on December 9th, a day after Balnik's surprise step.

Officials in Balnik used the nation's energy crisis as an excuse to quickly promote the development of the islands. Some claim that Balnik's failures in nuclear projects was the main reason for this bold move. In 2018 Balnik announced the construction of a new Uranium enrichment plant which should have already started operation, but international sources could not confirm such a plant ever went online. Some rumors put the blame on Oster secret sabotage of the project, orchestrated by the Vaalar. Similar rumors spread in the early 2000's, when a series of incidents delayed Aprosia's nuclear project. Such a campaign, of course, has never been confirmed by any government office.

CEO Frust on OCES' Regional Activities

DECEMBER 14 2020 | Dansj Ande Lihnier | Lindastir

OCES CEO Alen Frust elaborated on some of his corporation's efforts in the next few years during a talk on the matter in Lindastir. Host Lara Kohler confronted Frust on OCES' second "disappointing" annual report - in the words of Sijrahn Si Ardner - which he himself presented a month ago.

"I am not going to deny I find it disappointing as well," Frust said, "but OCES is a dynamic company and minor falls along the way are inevitable. We know how to do the job." Kohler asked to hear about OCES' current major regional projects; his reply is summarized below.

OCES' main focus is currently on a few key operations across The Western Isles:

Construction and equipment of a dual-unit nuclear reactor, as part of Athara Magarat's coal phase-out plan. The first unit went online during 2019 and the second has reached the third stage of construction. "We are actually ahead of planning with the control systems, but behind planning with physical assembly at the site," Frust said.

The Roendavar Deal, which includes assistance in construction of a single power plant in Manzhesta. "We have completed the main vessel and exchangers, and are preparing to install most of the main equipment during the next year."

Operation of several nuclear facilities across Vancouvia, including Illa Isle, through OCES' partial control of Soldotna World Energy. According to Frust, the Vancouvian company's 2018 'Narwhalia Deal' remains an issue between parties. "The [Vancouvian - A.L.] government had its reasons and the partnership included several agreements that cover this," he said, "but we protested some of their procedures and discussions are still ongoing."

And what Frust called "the routine projects", which include assistance and operation of reactors in nations like Verdon, Noronica and Dormill and Stiura; and Uranium mining in Ainslie, Athara Magarat, and other places.

CEO Frust neglected to mention his corporation's role in the production and maintenance of reactors for the Dagordh Class nuclear submarines, made by Hunter Defense Systems in Noronica, and the failure of the destructive and expensive deposit survey in the Argus savannah.

Vancouvian Congress Passes Bill to Increase Military Budget by 20%

On June 13, the Vancouvian Congress issued a declaration absorbing the Vancouvian Occupation Zone of Charbagnia as Vancouvian Agnion. In the past few months, radicalized anti-Vancouvian groups have directed multiple small scale terrorist actions against the Vancouvian and Agnionese defense forces, as well as civilians, resulting in an estimated 780 casualties. In an effort to curb these and other terrorist activities, including on San Javier and Illa Isle, Congress passed a $5B re-appropriation bill today to increase the Vancouvian National Army and Vancouvian Special Forces budget each by roughly 20% in the coming fiscal year.

Multiple think-tanks and analysts have discovered that this will degrade Vancouvia into a budget deficit for the first time since 2003. Congress has emphasized that a budget deficit is in some sense healthy, and that a limited amount of borrowing will improve monetary availability, cash flows, and investment in the country's infrastructure. Watchdog groups are not as optimistic, citing that an increase in military spending is historically one of the least efficient ways to grow the domestic economy.

Illa Quagmire Continues to Rage On

Illa continues to evade reclamation into Vancouvian control. This week, pro-Vancouvia counter protests in Westilla resulted in a fierce backlash, with paramilitary and police forces loyal to rebel leader Ignacio Campos killing five, injuring dozens, and imprisoning hundreds. This comes after months of relative peace on the island, with Campos seemingly silently gathering influence of the island's economic and military capabilities.

It is estimated that roughly 400,000 of the island's two million residents are loyal to Vancouvia, with another million neutral to either side. Vancouvia has slowly tried to gather support on the island through the use of "information campaigns" including distributing pro-government pamphlets via airdrop and broadcasting Vancouvian media over TV and radio waves. It is also rumored that squads of VSF and VEO may be present on the island, helping to arm and train a partisan force, although Congress has denied these claims.

The general populace has seemed to grow more disinterested with Illa affairs as time has gone on, with one poll finding that only 37% of Vancouvians want the military to retake Illa, down from 45% just three months prior. Still, however, Congress has adamantly denied Campos' government's legitimacy, declaring the rebellion on Illa illegal and treasonous.

Vancouvian Occupation Zone, Charbagnia

Vancouvian Congress Authorizes Massive Changes in Vancouvian Occupation Zone of Charbagnia

The Vancouvian Occupation Zone in former Charbagnia has undergone a revitalization today, after an early morning policy statement was released by the Vancouvian Congress, which outlined broad strokes changes for the large central-south swath of the country. The following summarizes the changes outlined by Congress:

1. The Vancouvian Occupation Zone will henceforth be renamed as "Vancouvian Agnion" and the residents there living will be known as the "Agnionese"

2. Vancouvian Agnion shall be governed under the laws of Vancouvia as a "Special Region" and shall be governed by a committee of Agnionese appointed by the Vancouvian Congress for two year terms. All Agnionese shall be granted much of the same rights as Vancouvian citizens, but shall not legally be Vancouvian citizens

3. All Agnionese are permitted the right to request relocation rights to the Vancouvian mainland and Vancouvian citizenship. Preference shall be given to those with needed and uncommon skills, and those signing on to the Vancouvian military

4. The border crossings with the neighboring zones shall be closed for a period of thirty days, effective immediately, with some rare exceptions

5. The Vancouvian military shall begin a "prolonged withdrawal" from Agnion, concurrent with the training and deployment of a 10,000+ strong Agnionese Defense Force

6. Vancouvian English shall be the national language, gradually replacing the currently de facto German. The Vancouvian cove shall be the national currency. Vancouvian holidays shall be celebrated alongside former Charbagnian holidays

7. Vancouvian businesses shall be permitted and encouraged to "develop, build, hire, buy, sell, and otherwise conduct commerce" in Agnion

These changes impact the roughly five million former Charbagnians living in Agnion, the most populous zone of former Charbagnia. Locals have already swept to the streets en masse, with both pro and anti-Vancouvian demonstrations underway. Helmwerder, the former capital of greater Charbagnia where roughly 3.2 million citizens reside, has polled largely pro-Vancouvia, in contrast with the more rural areas of the territory. Commentators have speculated that the more highly skilled, richer, English-fluent Helmwerders have a much better opportunity to be approved for Vancouvian citizenship.

Main concerns from the Agnionese are the possible brain-drain resulting from Vancouvian intentions to approve "the best and brightest" for Vancouvian citizenship, the seemingly overt dismantling of Charbagnian culture, and the continued lack of governmental representation. Congress has already addressed the last concern, releasing a statement late this afternoon that a transition to "self-determination and Agnion democracy" will occur within the next four years.

Roughly 5,000 Vancouvian National Army soldiers were deployed to Agnion the preceding week, likely in order to preempt any sort of mass uprising or dissent from the neighboring zones.

It is still unknown whether Vancouvian allies Noronica and Ostehaar were briefed on these radical changes before today. The northern French Republic of Charbagnia is likely to react negatively.

DeBoer's Domestic Agenda Sidetracked by International Events

Image

JAMESPORT- Delivering a keynote address to the 2019 North Gael Business Symposium in Jamesport on Friday, President Annaliese DeBoer did her best to underscore the fundamental strength of the Michigonian economy, bolstered by positive signs of integration within the G4 framework. Pointing to stabilized stock markets, accelerated business investment, and rising exports, DeBoer's first economic speech as President lauded her Liberal predecessor, Morris Ward, who was a chief architect of G4 accession in 2017.

But to survey the mood of the room unveiled a lingering cloud of uncertainty, driven by fears of instability abroad. Indeed, some of the Symposium's most highly-attended sessions included topics such as "Risk and Opportunity in a New Noronica" and "Tackling Geopolitical Uncertainty in the Argean Region."

DeBoer's 2019 term as President was supposed to be one of burgeoning economic optimism as Michigonian markets became fully adapted into the G4, but conflicts throughout the region drove the Grottingon Bourse deep into bear territory from November to late January, reaching levels not seen since 2015.

DeBoer's first month in office was consumed with twin crises in Alteran and Noronica, as the Foreign Ministry monitored the unfolding, sometimes violent, political situations there. Also on her radar is the ongoing blockade of Illa Isle, where dozens of Michigonian aid workers have either been stranded or have determined to remain on the island to continue their work.

Sanctions Winding Down

One foreign issue has come to a close for DeBoer, however.

Last week, the targeted sanctions against the government of Saumdera, as well as the trade embargo against Thuzbekistan, quietly came to an end. Although popular at the time they were imposed last July, the sanctions were dropped as the National Assembly voted against renewal, 112-29.

This comes after DeBoer reportedly worked closely with the Samuderan government last fall to bring a SantonPec refinery to Enerah, for which she drew sharp criticism from members of her own party.

Canal Expansion Concluding

DeBoer may have plenty of opportunities to refocus on domestic issues in the approaching months. In April, construction crews at the Jamesport Canal will be completing a 9 year, $22 billion expansion project. While privately owned and operated, the canal project was largely a government-funded endeavor, as the projected increase in shipping traffic could impact the major ports in the Roggeveen Bay.

Political Tightrope

DeBoer and her Liberals will need to walk a fine line when promoting greater economic integration on Gael. The new centre-left majority coalition in the Assembly includes the Liberals along with the insurgent Progressives, and Labour, both of which contain anti-trade factions. The Liberals were the leaders in previous centre-right coalitions which paved the way for G4 accession in 2017.

Labour leader Rob Geary has threatened to pull out of the coalition if the Liberals do not get behind legislation for increased unemployment benefits. Liberal leaders in the Assembly have said they plan to work with Labour on the issue.

Parliament Passes Bill to Withdraw From Gresswell Island Treaty 73-20
2/15/19

Early today, Parliament officially passed a bill to withdraw from the Gresswell Island Treaty. The Vote was 73-20 with the Center Socialist Party and the Islamic Socialist Party joining with the DSP and International Socialists to pass the bill.

The Gresswell Island Treaty was a treaty between Ostehaar, Ainslie, and Thuzbekistan guaranteeing the rights of Ainslie to the Isle while also prohibiting any military or intelligence assets on the island. It was signed in 1965, shortly after the rivalry between Ostehaar and Thuzbekistan began in the latter half of the 20th century. The treaty kept the island out of the very quickly intensifying rivalry and ensured it stayed neutral. Now, Parliament has voted to leave the treaty, nullifying the basic intentions behind it.

On the floor, parliament members cited Ostehaar's renewed fight against Thuzbekistan and against communists in general, Ainslie's alliance with Ostehaar in the Gael 4 alliance, and the sanctions by both nations as reasons the island could no longer be considered neutral ground.

"The clear bias of the cosigners in the treaty show that continuing in good faith is no longer a possibility," Atilla Lütfi, the Vanguard Party chairman said in a statement after the vote. "By withdrawing from this treaty, we are protesting the actions and sanctions of both nations as they worked to dismantle the Thuzbek economy. Their attempt has failed, but their actions will not be forgotten."

The Conservative Party notably said little as it voted unanimously against the bill.

The Treaty will be nullified in Thuzbekistan at midnight tonight.

Prime Minister Cihangir Sends Budget Proposal to Parliament
2-15-19

Just after the bill passed, Prime Minister Cihangir presented his budget proposal to the Finance Committee. Though it is unavailable to public eyes, the budget is expected to contain a large increase in the military budget.

Conservatives have mostly agreed with the increasing of the budget, citing the need to update assets and consider the role of the navy in the Armed Forces.

"We must begin to look at all parts of the armed forces and not simply give the Navy all the new assets," a conservative MP said in a statement for the party, which is still leaderless after the death of Valmacid. "We must consider the role of the army in battle and give more consideration to our logistical abilities."

The TSS Ashluv is rumored to be on the chopping block, but some MPs have stated their support for keeping the maintenance heavy carrier around a bit longer.

"We shouldn't be rid of our only real force projection asset without something to replace it," an International Socialist MP said in an interview. "We should be looking at replacements for sure. But getting rid of it? I think it's hasty and misguided."

The debate regarding the bill will come next week.

President Paul Watson of Brulafi and Prime Minister Cihangir Agree to State Visist
2-15-20

The Prime Minister's office announced a planned state visit to Brulafi, an old UCCR ally that has retained its socialism throughout the near 25 years since the UCCR's collapse. It is scheduled for 2-20-19. On the agenda for discussion is both nations economies, the events in Gael over the last months (including the Orsandian Civil War and the Noronican Crisis), and the possibility of a mutual assistance treaty. The aide also said there would be several sites of historic importance to both nations to be visited.

The meeting comes as Thuzbekistan begins recovering from the recession induced by the attack on its economy last year. As events in Gael once more turn to hostilities as the Noronican crisis continues with Dormill-Stiuraian troops in Arvan and a power change in Noronica, Thuzbekistan is attempting find allies among the turmoil. If successful, the talks could bring more security to Thuzbek markets which have been uncertain in the government's ability to maintain Thuzbekistan's place in the world.

However, some Internationalists believe this is the first step to reforming the UCCR, a goal the party banked on in 2013. It may be a pipe dream, though, as Samudera pulls away from Thuzbekistan amid the failure of Communism in the Orsandian Civil War, and as communist parties in Charbagnia, San Javier, and Illa Isle disintegrate under various circumstances. Regardless, many believe this is a good step for the embattled administration's foreign policy record.

Ward Signals Official Stance in Noronican Conflict

Alland- President Morris Ward held an emergency press conference Thursday morning following news of the bombings of military and transportation targets in Noronica. The attacks were reportedly carried out by segments of the Noronican military, in what has become an escalating constitutional crisis.

Ward, speaking alongside Minister of Defence David Unangana, and incoming President Annaliese DeBoer, reiterated his support for the elected government in Noronica. "We call on all nations to stand by the rule of law, and the institutions which protect it. In Noronica, the Constitutional Court has spoken, and we recognize the legitimacy of their lawfully elected leaders."

When asked about how the incoming centre-left Assembly coalition would respond, Ward handed off to DeBoer, who is set to take over the Presidency when the new government resumes on the 14th. "The new leadership in the Assembly are working closely with our intelligence agencies and diplomatic envoys." She added, "Noronica is an ally, and our embassy there has been in close communication with all parties involved."

Travel Warnings Issued

Also on Thursday morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced new travel warnings for Michigonians traveling to Noronica. A ministry spokesperson said the "Level 1" warnings implore Michigonians to use caution due to "sporadic civil unrest."

"Level 3" warnings were also extended for travelers to Alteran, citing "widespread civil unrest."

Markets Tumble

The violent outburst in neighboring Noronica has come in the wake of other regional conflicts. News of continued conflict in Orsandia, Illa Isle, and Alteran have rocked stock markets over the past few months.

The DeHoek Index dropped nearly 4% as news of the bombings unfolded Wednesday. It has fallen 16% since November 1st, leading analysts to speculate about a Gael-wide recession.

Navy to Remain in Orsandia

The press conference came just a day after the Ministry of Defence announced that the Michigonian Navy's flotilla in the Sapphire Bay would continue "maritime security operations" under the Dormill-Stiurian-led peacekeeping mission in Orsandia, known as "Operation Radiant Dawn."

Councillor and Defence Minister David Unangana declined to give a time-table for the flotilla's mission in the Sapphire Bay, but said, "This mission is part of the legislature's previous deployment approval."

Military travel in International District waters restricted except for Magarati and Vancouvian vessels

Image

NEW LIBANG

After the Vancouvian Congress announced the signing of a VACES alliance with the International District in December 16th, the Isles was engulfed in renewed tension. The Dormill-Stiuraian government and President Del'falco of Aruia condemned the Vancouvian "neo-imperialism" while the Svalbardian government announced on the 17th that they would bring in their Mesder Sea Treaty Organisation (MSTO) allies. Now, the Jrm Hangma administration of Athara Magarat, has officially sided with the Vancouvian Congress as southwestern Mechi Sea (water body connected to Argean Sea in north and Gatadpatigan Sea in south and surrounded by the nations of Agadar, Alteran Republics, Athara Magarat, Keipan, Michigonia and the International District) and northwestern Gatadpatigan Sea (water body connected to Mechi Sea in north and Waragatan Sea in southeast and surrounded by the nations of Athara Magarat, Torom, San Montagna and the International District) has been declared off-limits by the Athara Magarati navy for all military vessels save those sporting Magarati or Vancouvian naval flags.

Image
Athara Magarat navy has deployed its "Half-Platoon Boat 22 swarms" in both Mechi Sea and Gatadpatigan Sea.

The Snow Lion-class destroyer White Tigress, flagship of the Magarati navy, has been deployed to the Gatadpatigan Sea with the Naga-class missile boat Palpa, Blue Karnali and Seto Dharti plus a 100 Half-Platoon Boat 22s. Similarly, another swarm of 100 Half-Platoon Boat 22s have been reported to be covering the southern Mechi Sea and awaiting the arrival of the three Àdnachd-class multirole frigates Dragon Princess, Promise of Humanity and Lost Children of War. These three vessels had seen service in the recent conflict in Charbagnia and are en route to the Argean Sea to enter Port Tambar in Hangate of Arun Valley that touches southern Mechi Sea. Powered by two 780 hp engines, the landing craft has a maximum speed of 42 kt and an economical speed of 30 kt. It can cruise over a distance of 400 miles (643 km) and endure for up to 24 hours. Military analysts says that the presence of the Half-Platoon Boat 22 swarms will likely slow the movements of civilian vessels from other nations as well and make navigation a nightmare for intended targets.

"Vancouvia is our biggest ally on the war against SHOCK. We are ready to do whatever to support them." Jrm Hangma stated to the media and declined to make any further comments. Political analysts say that this goes beyond just the war against SHOCK.

Image
The shaded region in the map is now off-limits except for Vancouvian and Magarati vessels.

A government spokesman, requesting anonymity, said that the Jrm Hangma administration is officially recognizing "Illa Isle as part of Vancouvia just as Chatha and Jaring (Terra-Nuova) and Unovi are Magarati territories occupied by foreign powers". He also said that the Magarati government was planning of creating another unit like the Deathstalkers; who are an elite counter-terrorist group trained by the Vancouvian Special Forces (VSF). It has been reported that Athara Magarat may be granting another military base to the VSF in the continuing war against SHOCK.

The government official further stated that an Argus-centric railway project led by the Vancouvians was in consideration and the oil found in Dura Hangate (Magarati overseas territory in Sawneeak Atoll) will be exclusively sold to the Vancouvia. "Our nation will be fully run by nuclear energy in 2020 thanks three more nuclear power plants being constructed by Oster Consortium for Energy Solutions (OCES). Hence the oil found in Dura Hangate is better to be sold to nations that need it than us."

He however disputed the rumors that Jrm Hangma administration was considering selling Dura Island and Tandran to the Vancouvian Pelican Islands. "Dura Hangate has been populated by our citizens and is a constituent hangate of our nation. Furthermore, our scientists are studying the unique wildlife there and studying the stars from the powerful telescopes in observatories there. Unlike other claimants, we have a scientific interest and two islands of Dura and Tandran are forever Dura Hangate; as in a constituent state of Athara Magarat. Hence it will not be sold to anyone."

Svalbardian Government Issues Statement On the I.D situation

On Sunday the Vancouvian government announced a VACES alliance with the International DIstrict. VACES are also known as Vancouvian Alliance of Cooperation, Efficiency, and Stability. These agreements are made, in Vancouvia's eyes, in order to promote peace and reduce inefficiencies in what they consider to be key areas of international relations. The only other one was made with the nation of Noronica. The pretense for this agreement was cited as growing instability and several failing states in the Gael-Argean Area.

In the recent past Vancouvia already stepped into the International District once in order to provide stability and peace in an area that had fallen out of its way years after the original treaties that created it were made. At the time it was considered a leap and a breach of agreements but was largely accepted as few other governments wanted to step in. The Vancouvian involvement in the area started to die down, especially with the situation in Illa Isle, but it seems that this was just a lull.

Late sunday evening the Svalbardian government issued a statement. While it considers Vancouvia to be a friend, it will not hesitate to ensure that regional order is kept balanced, and that the agreements that created the I.D and the League are not destroyed by Neo-Imperialism. Polar Svalbard spilled a large amount of blood in the Imperial War, and will not see that get thrown back at it. Polar Svalbard will call upon its allies in the Mesder Sea Treaty Organization in order to garner a unified response, and will be seeking mediation in the League in order to hopefully peacefully resolve this issue.

Is there no end to Vancouvian Neo-Imperalism?

Vancouvia ties the International District to its hips, and then demands the Sawneeak Atoll are her's

Image

By: Cooper Dean

Kapolder - On 15 December, the Vancouvian Congress signed the second "VACES" agreement with the International District Council, the supposed sovereign government of the island that has recently faced an occupation by Vancouvia, extending Vancouvian influence even further in the area. This in addition to recent wargames being conducted between Vancouvia and Ruios, and there is plenty of evidence to suggest that they desire more influence over Gael as the situation in Noronica further deteriorates. It would be hard to suggest that with these events being so close together, alongside the mass deployment of the Vancouvian Navy to the Mechi Sea for reasons speculated by Vancouvia News Network to "either work to better cutoff trade with Illa Isle or be close enough for necessary operations in the I.D., Arvan, Gresswell Island, or other areas", neither of which bodes well for the nations of Gael, as Arvan is still disputed with the VACES allied Noronica and the United Republics, while recently Thuzbekistan withdrew from the Gresswell Island Treaty, disputing the accepted administration of Ainslie.

Other areas, as mentioned by VNN, also includes the Sawneeak Atoll, a small archipelago just southwest of Raggiz that has been the site of eight competing claims between Noronica, the United Republics, San Montagna, Athara Magrat, Norstham, Negarakita, Masrubia, and Vancouvia. Alongside the ratification of the VACES agreement with the International District, the Vancouvian Congress additionally ratified a proclamation that "the Sawneeak islands are all legal property of Vancouvia", and that it was " willing to negotiate transfers of money or 'other suitable property' in exchange for nations abandoning their "occupations" of the other Sawneeak islands", we reached out to the other claimants' foreign ministries for a response, of which only the Dormill-Stiuraian as responded, stating:
The Vancouvian claim on the Swaneeak Atoll is no more strong than their ability to hold on to Illa Isle. The United Republics does not recognize any claim Vancouvia makes aside only the Pelican Islands, as it has been our policy to respect the other administrations of the remaining islands. If Vancouvia wants to end any dispute over the Islands, declaring that they all belong to Vancouvia is not the place to start.

The United Republics will reiterate the legitimacy of the Territory of Swaneeak Atoll and the Dulung Special Administrative Region, and will be open to a dialogue to settle any further disputes with the other claimants.

Vancouvia Strengthens Ties with I.D., Signs VACES Agreement, Takes on Protection of Gael-Argean Area

Vancouvia has strengthened its position in North Argus and Gael overnight with the signing of a VACES alliance with the International District. Citing growing instability and several failing states in the region, the Vancouvian Congress and the I.D. Council signed the agreement at 8:00 PM yesterday night at the Senate Building in Vesuvius at a relatively quiet ceremony.

This marks the second VACES alliance Vancouvia has undertaken, the first of which was with Noronica two years ago. Congress has stated that they are enthusiastic that they are building stronger ties with the region in which Vancouvia has the greatest "cultural and historic ties."

The majority of the Vancouvian navy has moved to the straits surrounding the I.D. Analysts have surmised that their aim is either to work to better cutoff trade with Illa Isle or be close enough for necessary operations in the I.D., Arvan, Gresswell Island, or other areas.

Vancouvian Congress Renews Claims on Sawneeak Atoll, States Willingness to "Peacefully Purchase Islands in Dispute"

Virtually right after the announcement of the VACES treaty, Congress announced that they have renewed their position that the Sawneeak islands are all legal property of Vancouvia. Congress also stated that they are willing to negotiate transfers of money or "other suitable property" in exchange for nations abandoning their "occupations" of the other Sawneeak islands.

Vancouvia currently hosts a small base and airfield on two of the smallest isles, the Pelican Isles. Congress gave no reason for the sudden confirmation of Vancouvia's policy towards Sawneeak.

Gael
Vancouvia-Ruios Wargames: How does this affect regional tensions?

The decision of these two governments to flex their military muscles could not come at a more potent time. How will Gael react?

In recent years, the Gael region has attained a reputation for its stability as opposed to other areas of the Isles which often see large conflicts. 2018 has not been Gael's year in this regard. Samudera has been struck with political and judicial crises following the death of a chief justice, Negarakita's stable ruling coalition has collapsed following corruption charges leading to a snap election, Dormill has had problems with Arvan and Roendavar is heading into the first Treiorevikos in almost 50 years. This is without mentioning the Orsandian civil war, which has only just started to wind down after months of violence. This series of unfortunate events has cast a shadow over a region which for years was a shining example to the rest of the isles.

This has been the backdrop of Ruios' recent decision to hold war games with Vancouvia. The war games will take place for the next few weeks and shall, in the words of the government of Ruios, "mean [they] are stronger and more capable when it comes to keeping [their] countries safe and protecting [their] way of life". Vancouvia, for their part, spoke of how the drills were primarily aimed at improving their ability to fight terrorism. Both of these explanations are perfectly valid. As Vancouvian Senator Debby Oliente said, "Vancouvia and Ruios have every right and responsibility to conduct these war games". Then what is the trouble here, and why have several Gaelitic nations been up in arms about the manoeuvres?

As a region, Gael is relatively close-knit. While rivalries between nations clearly exist, there are very few openly hostile relations between Gaelitic nations. This has led to a sort of inward focus among many of the nations and a general distrust of foreign influences. Alliances such as the G4 are testament to this. So the involvement of an Argean power such as Vancouvia in military matters in Gael is seen by many as the involvement of a foreign power which they do not trust. For their part, Vancouvia have done little to put down such fears. Their ham-fisted treatment of the Illa Isle issue has been combined with a steady dial-up of foreign deployments across the isles. Even domestically, there are fears that Vancouvian imperialism is a true danger, so the traditionally suspicious Gaelitic nations are understandably worried by this. General Storm of Vancouvia himself said that the purpose of the drills was to "strengthen [Vancouvia's] capabilities abroad". Their desire to get involved in the Arván dispute has also been interpreted as a warning sign by many in Gael.

Aruia was the first nation to address the issue, highlighting the lack of consultation with neighbouring nations and tactless timing in a region which currently wants little reminder of war. The Ahnslen foreign ministry expressed "early concerns about unnecessary activities close to our sovereign waters", while Negarakitan Minister of Foreign Affairs Hasballah Yusuf decried the "lack of respect for the rest of the region", and while acknowledging that Ruios and Vancouvia had the right to pursue such actions stating that "Negarakita could not support the timing of the war games, and would watch the situation closely". No Gael nations have threatened any actions against either party, as these are just early days, but the mood should be read by both parties lest they try to increase their military actions.

Vancouvian holidays shall be celebrated alongside former Charbagnian holidays.

Vancouvian Confidence in Congress Wanes

A poll conducted over the past week by the Independent Review Forum was released today, revealing some striking feelings Vancouvians have towards the Vancouvian Congress. The poll, which received opinions from 50,000 Vancouvians, showed that 42% of Vancouvians disapprove of "the direction the country is heading" while 45% disapprove of the Vancouvian Congress itself. This comes as a stark contrast to the usual 20-30% disapproval ratings that Congress has received over the last ten years.

What we note, however, is that over 5,000 of those surveyed currently reside on Illa Isle, still considered part of Vancouvia by the IRF. Of these 5,000 Illa Islanders, there is a whopping 79% disapproval rating. This seems to contradict Ambassador Augustia White's statements to the League two months ago when she claimed a vast majority of the Islanders support Vancouvia and are against de facto leader Ignacio Campos. These statements helped Vancouvia shut down a resolution that would have condemned Vancouvian actions on the island taken since the revolt.

Illa Isle has remained in a deadlock with greater Vancouvia for the past several months, with neither side willing to give way. The Vancouvian blockade, initially successful in stifling Illa's economy, has now been circumvented by an over 400% increase in air travel and cargo. Congress has been so far unwilling to implement a no-fly zone over the island, fearing it will force the military's hand into shooting down mostly civilian air travel.

“People of Illa – We are with you!”
Revolution Day crowds give a stirring show of support to sovereign Island nation's cause.

Image

In city squares across Totzka citizens from all provinces, Ethno-Unions, and ethnicities have gathered to commemorate the 56th anniversary of the start of the Totzkan Revolution. While previous years have seen banners and chants protesting inequality, corruption and authoritarianism many commenters have claimed this year’s crowds are more united and more celebratory of their country. “1.9 million patriots” is written across many banners and refers to the Totzkan death toll during the civil war. Many are wearing T-Shirts reading “Hell take those that would divide Totzka.” It is truly a heart-lifting sight. However, this year’s celebrations have focused on other nation’s around the Western Isles that remain under foreign imperialist governments. Outside both the Pirâmide and the Abóbada crowds chanted the follow refrain – “People of Illa, we are with you.” Readers with a long memory will quickly recognise the rehash from last years “people of Charba, we are with you” yet the plight of Illa has caught the imagination of Totzka far more so than that of Weinrub’s regime.

Illa Isle made it’s way to news headlines in July when the small island dared to challenge it’s imperialist master and proclaimed independence, which the vast majority of the island support. Vesuvius has since responded by placing the island under blockade, restricting the island’s access to medicine and other essential imports. [nation]Vancouvia[nation]’s actions seem to fulfil its region wide foreign policy of cutting up the Western Isles between Noronica and itself. Illa Isle joins the international district, Athara Magarat and Charbagnia as the newest nation to fall victim to Vancouvia’s jingoism.

While President Amero’s government acts as though he is impotent to defend our nation’s founding principles we encourage all peoples of the Western Isles to learn the lessons Totzka learnt those 56 years ago when we dared to strike back against our Portuguese masters and their racist Viceregal puppets. Imperialism and colonialism must be resisted by any means possible. Our government forgets these lessons, but our people never will.

Patrico Revolution’s Day speech – “we will no longer be able to support this government.”
Image

Artur Patrico, leader of Partido Socialista do Povo, has received widespread approval for his Revolution day speech, which he gave at midday today. In previous years Patrico has been criticised for being too lenient towards President Amero who continues to make policies which favour foreign investors and a consortium of landowners. Officially the PSdP offers support to the government within the Comissão Popular in exchange for influencing the agenda of the ruling Aliança Industrial e Terrateniente party, however it’s widely believed that schism has been growing between Patrico and Amero these past months. The speech seems to herald the start to the campaign season for the Comissão elections in November. Here’s an extract from Patrico’s speech today.

…Today Totzka has one of the fastest growing economies in the Western Isles, we are reaching out to new trading partners and building a reputation as a responsible and market driving economy. Yet we must ensure the fruits of our success do not only go to oligarchs of the S7 companies and their friends in government but also to ordinary citizen of Totzka. The couple in Nirapanza whose home is being demolished, the children in Drijina whose injured father cannot work for lack of medical insurance, the tribe in Yhaiva who have been promised funds to build homes yet received none. These are the people we must ensure are protected as we enter this supposed new age of prosperity.

I would like to turn our attention to the wider world where the ideals that out nation hold so dear are coming to the fore in this new era. I would personally like to give my condolences to the grieving families in our neighbours of Almorea and Dragao do Mar who lost their loved ones in the tragic flight. Dragao do Mar is one of our closest trading partners and despite their monarchy they hold the principles of democracy and liberty close. That’s why I believe that the greatest gift we can give to the people of Dragão do Mar is complete and unambiguous support of the Unified Republican Movement whom we hope will work tirelessly to greatly approve their country. I was lucky enough to hear Amanda Menezes speech six days ago and it got me thinking about nations even further afield. Noronica, which for so long has been a bastion of colonialism and imperialism, has taking some amazing strides towards republicanism. Despite what his political opponents may claim of him Prime Minister McIntosh has asserted the will of the Noronican people by finally beginning the procedures that will bring an end to the Overlords and -ladies of Noronica.

The Western Isles is changing, yet I have to ask, are we? Four years ago, I made agreement with Francisco Amero. I agreed that while I lead the party no member of the PSdP would stand for government and that this party would support his government not just on the voting floor of the Comissão Popular but also offer the advice and experience we had gained following thirteen years in power. In exchange we were promised that Amero’s government would follow a policy programme that offered social justice, social security and social mobility. I stand by this agreement. I firmly believe that this was the most dignified way our party could continue to serve our country after we enabled General Chirapati to have his way for almost a decade and a half. I have stood by this deal. I did not renege when Amero failed to replace the Supreme Tribunal, when he forced over a fifth of our armed forces to retire or when he allowed for thousands of Totzki families in Nirapanza to forced out of the homes to build this new international seaport. Has he stood by this deal?

Therefore, I offer Amero this ultimatum; if you continue on this destructive course to sell our nation off to the highest foreign bidder, allow children to starve and protect Executive for Domestic Security and their reign of terror then I shall have no choice but to resign and we will no longer support your government.”

Police Intercept Illegal Shipment

At approximately 3 A.M., local police in tandem with the ARSF, apprehended 15 individuals outside an abandoned warehouse on the docks of Rehusó. Officials were able to confiscate 5 motorized dinghies filled with various ammunitions, weaponry, and opioids. In a statement released at 8 A.M. this morning Police Chief Fidkin Dus-Omat revealed that the smugglers were attempting to move their product to the contested Illa Isle.
Illa Isle, which symbolically declared its independence exactly a month ago, has received a fair amount of support and recognition from nations in the Isle-most notably, the nations of Thuzbekistan and Weinam.
Surprisingly, Parliament has long been silent on the matter of recognizing Illa Isle given Xrevaro’s outspoken nature toward colonization. Public opinion polls show that 61% of those polled are in favor of recognizing Illa Isle, with 34% against, and 5% with no opinion. A look at Parliament’s agenda reveals that recognition of Illa Isle is not even in the government’s periphery.
Bees International, a non-governmental humanitarian aid organization based in Mejóel, has listed Illa Isle as a problem region and is currently fundraising to help the impoverished nation. The organization has plans for August 10th to be its first day on the ground distributing aid.

Charbagnian War Comes To An End

Image
ARRF in the State of Enkerk
After the shocking terrorist attack on the late Charbagnian President, Kurt Weinreb, the Charbagnian War has drawn to a close. The incident occured from the First Charbagnian Federal Bank, as the President gave a speech on the pretence that the Charbagnian economy was flourishing under his personal dictatorship.

The President, many in his civilian cabinet and more than 100 civilians were killed by the explosion, with at least 400 casualties. This attack shocked many in both the allied forces and Charbagnia, and as the obviously shaken Prime Minister of Charbagnia took to the role of President, he wished for nothing more than unconditional surrender.

At this time, the Argean Rapid Response Force and its allies were held down by the Charbagnian troops in the army base of Denderberg, while the Rajbansi Horde of the Athara Magarati National Army took further ground in the state of Clermont. After managing to break through the Charbagnian line alongside extensive air support from F-19 Aingael fighters, Denderberg Army Base was captured. It was then that allied commanders received word from the Charbagnian leadership that they would surrender.

General Brian Gulling of the Noronnican Armed Forces, the person leading Operation Swift Resolution, stated that he was 'overjoyed by the Charbagnian decision' and he hoped that 'peace would reign again in Charbagnia'. General Gulling, alongside other allied leaders, made it clear that now was 'not the time to leave', and that a peace conference would be held later these coming weeks to determine the fate of Charbagnia.

NIDF Answers The Call

Image
Illa Isle - Information
The Noronnican International Development Fund has today decided to accept the territory of Illa Isle's submitted request for a loan of $100 million. This deal comes from the recent declaration of independence from Illa Isle, a former territory of one of Noronica's closest allies, Vancouvia.

This highly controversial move has been met with the calm and sensible approach of Sarah Khan, the Press Correspondent for the NIDF. Above all, she stressed that this was a purely humanitarian effort and would not in any shape or form show support to the political situation.

"With this new loan, the Noronnican International Development Fund is doing all it can to support the ordinary working lives of the people of the Western Isles. Today, it happens to be the islanders of Illa Isle. In giving this support, we expect to see Illa Isle return to stability and progress, as we give our money in confidence that this shall be used wisely. To calm the many involved parties of this situation, we are also sending a team from the NIDF to ensure that Illa Isle's economic policies are sensible and ensure prosperity."

Lord Finely Phillips, Secretary of International Development in His Majesty's Government, expressed his 'clear and unwavering support' of the NIDF.

"The Noronnican Government always has the uttermost confidence in the NIDF in that it is able to provide safe and stable economic aid to its borrowing nations and territories. We have watched the situation in Illa Isle with much concern, and we desperately hope that the islanders are able to rebuild lives, even after the shocking separation from Vancouvia. We are currently monitoring the situation closely in Illa Isle, and are working alongside the Vancouvian Congress to see what may become of this situation."

New NIDF Scheme Writes Off Debt

Image
NIDF Headquarters, Nolon City
It was an exciting moment for many economic journalists today, due to the new announcement from the Noronnican International Development Fund's Headquarters in Market Street, Nolon City. With half the year gone, the NIDF stated that 'times were changing' and that a new scheme would be implemented in the next coming weeks to ensure a more comprehensive and borrower-friendly repayment system.

The new scheme is called the 'Investment Agreement'. It only applies to nations and territories that take part in the current funding scheme in the NIDF, as it works to try and lift pressure on their repayments. So, how does the deal work? The deal is reciprocal. The NIDF agrees to write off a portion of the debt incurred by the expenditures on nations taking on funding in the hopes of opening up deals for foreign investment. This allows for the regional economy to flourish, and it also allows the nation taking on funding to flourish.

The new scheme came about after more and more concerning reports of the rising debt in Athara Magarat from various different payments taken on. The NIDF agreed that for its continued confidence in the nation's ability to repay its own funding, it hopes to relieve some of the debt incurred. Hunter Defence Systems in Noronica has already expressed interest in the deal, in a statement yesterday, Gary Brendan, CEO of Hunter Defence Systems, had this to say:

"We hope that with this new scheme, Athara Magarat and the HDS may reach a new partnership. We have already grown a bond due to Athara Magarat's keen interest in its own defence, but be it helping fund new schools, infrastructure or further defence agreements, we hope to invest in Athara Magarat."

The NIDF, in going through with this venture, might have created a very exciting deal for borrowing nations, allowing for them to flourish rather than become stagnant with debt.

The Chancers Take GFA North Champion Title

Image
McKay and Cearbhaill hug post-match
The sun had gone, the rain had left the pitch with a soft wet glow, and eyes were wide with exhilaration and intent. Tensions were high, and the old football nations of Noronica and Ostehaar stood head-to-head. The match was intense, with both sides closing in on each other at every opportunity. When the first goal hit its mark, there was very little celebration as players went back, a steely resolve in their eyes.

What a day that was. Noronica served some phenomenal goals from McKay and Cearbhaill, Cearbhaill coming into save the day as he secured a tie at the end of the match. There were two yellow cards given to Florence Onno and Hugh McLean. The ref wasn't popular, to say the least, when McLean got his. Many here in the NMC studio couldn't understand the reasoning either. "The ref works in mysterious ways," was the half-hearted response from Football-legend Alex Gwynon.

Still, the game was good, and the fans were not let down by some excellent balancing between forward and defence. Oster goalkeeping seemed unbeatable as the Chancers tried again and again at a chance to hit a goal. The tie signified the intense battle between Oster forward Ari Vehes and Noronnican Farquhar McKay, two prominent players in the teams, both fighting to send their teams to glory.

Despite the match ending in a tie, with the score accumulated by Noronica over this past month, Noronica has secured itself high up in the Gael leaderboard as is now entering the IFAF Cup ready to take on the Isles.

WEINAM TO SEND MILITARY AID TO ILLA ISLE

Image
Military Planes due to leave Weinam for Illa Isle

Weinam has agreed to send military and humanitarian aid to the tiny island of Illa Isle. The micro nation, who recently declared independence from Vancouvia has pleaded for help with financial, humanitarian and military aid, to which Weinam has agreed to send help.

Initially thought to be around 2000 troops, Weinam will send supplies and equipment with a future plan to send further aid once the island is better secured. The Weinamese Navy and Marines are also sending ship bound supplies which would total around 3200 Weinamese personnel. It is unclear what Vancouvia would say or do with Weinam's announcement but Weinam has said that will help the island regardless of threat or international concern.

Supplies could arrive in Illa Isle as soon as Saturday evening with Navy supplies arriving around Monday morning.

Illa Isle Submits Request for $100M Loan for "Humanitarian Aid" to Noronnican International Development Fund

This morning, now-President Ignacio Campos announced his submission of a request for loan monies from the Noronnican International Development Fund for use in humanitarian initiatives throughout Illa Isle.

"Vancouvia has robbed us of our economic footing for the last half-decade. They have enslaved our children for their own profit, stolen wheat from our fields and coins from our own pockets. They have scorched our earth with hyper-capitalism and modern colonialism. They have corrupted or claimed our businesses. And what have they blessed us with? Base Tern and its patrols to keep us in line. We were little but a breadbasket for the rich elites in Yorkford and Vesuvius. Now we are our own country. Now we must rebuild," spoke Campos in Spanish in his daily press briefing this morning outside the Mayor's Building.

The funds would be committed solely towards providing water, food, and shelter for the civilian population, claimed Campos, although that begs the question why Campos didn't request the food itself, although self-sufficiency seems to be a chief concern of the new government.

Illa Isle proclaimed independence on July 5th, more than three weeks ago. Since then, despite repeated Vancouvian warnings, there has been very little actual fighting between the rebellious island and the Vancouvian military. There has been at least 14 confirmed UAV strikes on the island itself, but these were mostly against rural military targets and port facilities in Westilla.

Analysts speculate that Vancouvia does not wish to become embroiled in yet another conflict. Analyst Mario Mendez commented, "It just doesn't seem financially viable for Vancouvia to fight in what would likely be a long and bloody war - and they don't really need to. Economic sanctions put into place against Illa, along with the blockade, have significantly affected Illa's ability to feed, train, and recruit military forces, not to mention stirring up civilian cries for reversing the independence movement."

Illa has also called for "similar nations of heritage, creed, policy, and character" to assist with financial, political, and military aid, including Weinam, Thuzbekistan, Athara Magarat, and Belle Ilse en Terre.

Foreign Minister Fires Fires Back at Allied Conference
7-12-18

Ashluv- Today, the Foreign Ministry released a lengthy statement regarding the "revelations" of Ostehaar, Orsandia, and Dormill-Stiura, which were together referred to as "the Allies" in the statement. It slammed the triad as hypocritical and deceptive.

"The People's Republic of Thuzbekistan has not involved itself in the matters of Orsandian affairs. We have shown solidarity for a people oppressed by the system which the MSTO imposed upon them in the first Civil War. In that war, the hypocrites of Gael forced out a legitimate government and created a military dictatorship which finally evolved into the capitalist nation of Orsandia. The threats and calls for boycotts and sanctions are beyond unreasonable. Finally, the threat of reparations is not only unheard of in history for this case, but a threat of war that only a conqueror would impose to force submission. This will not stand in the eyes of Thuzbekistan."

The statement went on to describe the efforts of many nations to destroy the communist Orsandian government as well.

All fleets have been put on high alert and the Reserve Marine Corps has been put on a 24 hour activation standby which is said to last the week. All reserve units are to be no further than 6 hours from their nearest Armory in case of activation.

These statements come after the Allies (Orsandia, Ostehaar, and Dormill and Stiura) made a trilateral statement slamming Thuzbekistan and Samudera and calling the PLF a Thuzbek military unit. The Allies also called for sanctions and political commentators in Ostehaar are calling for Samudera to be thrown out of the G4, a continental alliance created in recent years.

However, there has also been support shown to Thuzbekistan by Weinam, a long time ally and former UCCR member. They declared support for Samudera and Thuzbekistan, saying that they are "standing shoulder to shoulder with both nations" and continuing to promise "Full support and resources should they require it."

The support was received well in Parliament where the Vanguard Chairman said that "our hearts go out in appreciation to our friends and allies in Argus."

Weinam and Thuzbek Leaders Confirm Date of War Games

Today the Weinamese government also confirmed the date for amphibious war games. September 10th-September 20th was given by the Thuzbeks to Weinam.

The war games are to occur along several of the tourist islands along Thuzbekistan's western coasts and will practice several types of amphibious landings. Using lasers and blanks, the battle will be simulated against the Thuzbek Army, which is the first line of defense against invasion. The Thuzbek and Weinamese Marines will attack several islands in combined arms operations where Thuzbek and Weinamese assets will be working closely to achieve their objectives.

While the games themselves are not new, this will be the first time such games include a foreign military and, according to the Ministry of the Navy, will be a "telling experience" that will "prepare both armed forces for cooperation in defensive and offensive actions."

The games were originally started in 2003 and again in 2008 and 2013. These games will be the fourth of this kind. Though often controversial due to cost and negative diplomatic effects, the games have been a pride of the Navy since they began and provided valuable training to all branches of the military.

Parliament Passes Bill Recognizing The Citizen's Republic of Illa Isle

Earlier today, Parliament passed a bill recognizing the Citizen's Republic of Illa Isle. The bill allowed for the creation of diplomatic relations, trade subsidies, and free travel, but only after a "functional government is formed".

It passed 56-44 amid concerns that there was not yet a functional government, the fear of diplomatic repercussions, and the strictly secular attitude of the Illa Islanders. However, many MPs felt that the revelation by allied nations removed the repercussions of doing so.

The bill was originally introduced on July 6th, but was not introduced to a vote until after the Allied "revelation", which fired up Socialist Internationalism in the Vanguard party.

"We hope that our recognition of their valiant efforts to create a new order in their homeland can be aided by our support," one International Socialist Party MP said in a statement on his website. "We must support Socialism everywhere we can and aide every worker in the breaking of their chains."

While the Opposition wholly opposed the measure, it passed easily enough for the Vanguard to make it law officially by mid afternoon.

TRILATERAL STATEMENT ON ORSANDIAN WAR: FURTHER STEPS EXPECTED

Following the joint statement by the allied parties of the Orsandian war, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense have released further, separate reports, adding more details regarding the Thuzbek and Samuderan intervention in the war, and the expected steps the government plans to take.

The Ministry of Defense release, twelve pages long, presents much of the intelligence collected on the Thuzbek and Samuderan involvement. A more detailed report was distributed to G4 governments and to allies of Ostehaar across the region, such as Vancouvia, Miklania, Polar Svalbard, and Covonant. Sources of the information include HUMINT, SIGINT, and VISINT data gathered by the three intelligence agencies of Ostehaar, Orsandia, and Dormill and Stiura since February 2018.

"That's a no-brainer," an official in the Ministry told FNN yesterday as the reports were released. "The evidence against these two nations [Thuzbekistan and Samudera] are substantial and unequivocal. The real question right now is not whether it's true, but what should be done about it. I think it's clear that condemnation, diplomatic isolation, and sanctions are the right course of action."

The statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs focused less on the information itself and more on the implications and on the need for decisive action by The Western Isles. The report presents basic information on the Thuzbek economy, for example, and analyses the potential effect of sanctions. "The Thuzbek authoritarian regime has equipped the PLF with millions of dollars worth of weapons and ammunition," the report highlights state. It later concludes that "the only sure way to disable the Thuzbek war-machine is by denying it the necessary funds." The release does not state whether or not Ostehaar would move to revoke Samudera's G4 membership, but according to FNN's political commentator Lihr Frihsj, it is obvious that this would be the case. "The government would not accept Samuderan presence in the G4 after this," Frihsj claimed.

Minster of Foreign Affairs Elena Brahurer issued her own statement, referring to the press release and calling on regional organizations and alliances such as the League, MSTO, and C6 to present a united front. "Thuzbekistan must understand that when you initiate war, there are consequences. If the regional community fails to deliver, it would only encourage Prime Minister Cihangir to continue pushing his atrocious agenda in Gael and across the region as well."

PRIME MINISTER: OSTEHAAR SUPPORTS VANCOUVIA, WILL NOT RECOGNIZE ILLA ISLE

In response to the proclamation of idenpendence by the Illa Isle leadership, Prime Minister Dorias spoke about the issue yesterday during a press conference. "We have been following the Illa Isle problem closely," Dorias said, "and so far we've decided against issuing a formal response in fear that it might destabilize the situation even further. This independence announcement, however, marks a turning point and we must not let it stand. We do not recognize this proclamation, and I have instructed to limit air and sea travel to and from the island for the time being."

In Lovsk, local underground newsletters celebrated the Illa Isle proclamation and referred to it as another step on the way to liberation of all occupied territories of the north, including Arvan, Wake Islands, and Lovsk itself. A statement in one of the bulletins read: "Rise, oppressed brothers! Resist the occupying forces, and if you cannot - ignore their presence altogether. Illa Isle shows us the way, and soon we will all be liberated."

TENSE OSTER-ALTERAN MATCH ENDS IN A 2-2 TIE; TEAM READY TO PLAY D&S

Na Barnir (The Rocks, Ostehaar's national football team) hosted Alteran Republics yesterday at the Campus Olympic Arena in Porohare. The long-anticipated match ended in a tie after both teams managed to score twice.

Ten minutes after the start of the game Oster defender Dihn Serger tackled Adamus Falconius, rewarding him with a penalty kick that sent the ball into Alex Brohnt's net. The Alteran advantage lasted most of the first half until Mark Gaalgriner scored an equalizer from the edge of the penalty area on the 42nd minute. The second half saw many goal attempts on both sides, and both teams seemed to play at their best. Oster Ari Vehes scored a header off a corner kick on the 72nd minute, but the Alterans were quick to equalize with a magnificent Petrus Marcipor goal six minutes later.

"It was quite a difficult one," Oster team captain Daar Brikner said after the match. "The Alterans definitely gave us some hard time and played well. I personally enjoyed myself, and I think we presented the audience here and at home some good performance." The team will meet Dormill and Stiura in Ile-de-Avillon on the 13th.

The ideals behind Pax Kirati and Pax Magaratis to be revived?

Image
Trade flowed from Mesder to Argus and Gael and vice versa in Pax Kirati

NEW LIBANG

The recent leaks of the Doman documents and political instability in neighboring Belle Ilse en Terre have led to a flurry of discussions in Athara Magarati politics. The Hangma's office created public interest when it announced that the government was interested in working on the revival of the ideals of Pax Kirati and Pax Magaratis. Our correspondents spoke to various influential politicians to learn more.

Image
Jyoti Thapa, the Hangma of Athara Magarat

Jrm Hangma, what are your views on the Doman Documents?

It is a matter of very little surprise if I have to be frank. We have always known that the entire Isles have prepared their defenses to work counter us if we ever went imperialist in the future; especially our neighbors.

But the people are mostly concerned. Opinion polls indicated that 68% of our citizens felt betrayed.

We invaded Domanania more times than any other nation in the Isles. Of course they are still wary of us. The past couple of decades might have enhanced our friendship; particularly with both of our nations becoming linked by the Coalition of Six and shared defense. We buy their small arms while they utilize Magarati-built ships and electronics. Magarati businessmen and researchers choose Tiwe island as one of the best destinations for their work while Domananian students and factory workers have enriched our industries. However, we had forgotten the history between the two nations in the process - which I presume is why many Athara Magarati citizens felt they were betrayed by a close ally.

But the so-called Magarati Plan of the Doman government aimed to perform nuclear bombing on our industries, cities and military centers. Should we not be worried?

I am baffled at how people only react to the big news without reading it fully. I contacted my Domananian counterpart and this incident has been talked over. Even Paragraph 2nd, Page 15 of the leaked documents mention that the Magarati Plan has been removed as the primary means to counter our imperial ambitions in the future. They will place sanctions on us rather than Kaski island turning into a nuclear wasteland. Besides, there are more worrying situations around the Isles than this fictional threat our citizens are unnecessarily worried about.

More worrying situations?

The political instability within the Ilsan monarchy and the volatile situation in Lortika are of great concerns for us. We cannot stand and watch as a neighboring country burns. However, we will also maintain our distance and only raise the issue of the Lortik minority facing cultural erasure at the hands of the Ilsan nobles for now. We have thousands of Lortik refugees arriving on our shores to escape persecution; telling us the horrors of unwarranted murders and rapes.

That aside, the war in Charbagnia is still ongoing. Many valiant Noronicans and Vancouvians - and let us not forget the soldiers from Ostehaar, Corindia and our nation Athara Magarat - (who) have lost their lives while establishing peace in the Charbagnian Federation. And then there is the civil war in Orsandia creating problems for other Gael nations. And then we have news of Illa Isle's citizens declaring their independence from Vancouvia. In Orsandia and the Illa Isle case, we sadly have no other option than to keep our silence for now until we learn more of what has occurred. Or more specifically, we do not want to barge in without receiving affirmative nods from other powers concerned.

Tell me, how are these issues not more troubling than the out-dated Magarati Plan? Perhaps, even more worrying now is the rapid militarization taking place in Oturia and rumors of the formation of an empire. And from our own historical experiences, we can say that imperialist militarization can bring forth senseless damage and destruction. Even more than what is happening in the Ilsan monarchy, Charbagnia, Orsandia and Illa Isle right now. Examining the events taking place in the Isles, one cannot help but wish for the revival of a scenario similar to Pax Kirati and Pax Magarati.

What do you mean by that, Jrm Hangma?

Perhaps another time.

Illa Isle Proclaims Independence - Vancouvian Military Dispatched to Safely Quell Rebellion and Protect Citizens

In a greatly symbolic move, Illa Isle leadership declared independence from Vancouvia today, the anniversary of the formation of Vancouvia 18 years ago on July 5th, 2000. Likely hoping to elicit sympathy by comparing Illa's desire for nationhood with Vancouvia's own struggles, Westilla mayor Ignacio Campos announced at noon today that Illa has "come into adulthood" and would henceforth be "permanently and justly separate and unique in all matters of state, law, trade, and safety."

Campos' speech, which lasted just four minutes, comes in the wake of the Islanders success in the second Base Tern siege, in which Vancouvian leadership was forced to surrender the base to the Illa rebellion after several SAM anti-air missiles surrounded the base. While many assumed that the base would be relieved by a land-based invasion by the Vancouvian military, Congress reluctantly focused instead on diplomatic talks, which so far have been fruitless. "Our goal was and is to peacefully restore order and stability to Illa, and using our military is simply not a preferable option for us, unlike the gangs of rebels on the island which utilize terror and force to gather power," said Senator Jorja Heyes on Monday.

The independence announcement, however, has finally forced Congress' hand, as they immediately ordered the navy and several cohorts of VSF to the island to "retake Base Tern, reestablish hospitals and other significant infrastructure, and dethrone and arrest the despotic leadership of the rebellion."

In several flash polls, it has been revealed that roughly 55% of Illa Islanders are in favor of independence, 20% are against, and 25% had no significant opinion. The majority in favor are from Westilla, now the capital of the so-called Citizen's Republic of Illa. While a government has not yet formed, Campos mentioned in his brief speech that the creation of a legislative body and a Constitutional convention would be a first order of business. Other priorities included the transition of the Island Defense Militia to reorganization into a Citizen's Army, which has had record recruitment since the announcement of independence.

Congress has called upon its allies to support the aim of restoring order and peace to Illa by refusing trade with the island, preventing air and sea travel to and from Illa, and not recognizing the new regime as legitimate.

Westilla Mayor Requests Firearms for "Self-Defense"

At 5:30 AM this morning, the de facto mayor of Westilla, Ignacio Campos, gave a speech in front of City Hall, calling for "all nations and peoples sympathetic to the plight of Illa, its people, and liberty itself" to assist Illa Isle in the acquisition of firearms in order to further arm the Island Defense Militia (IDM). Calling the request "a necessary step," Campos reiterated Illa's need to defend itself, referencing the failure of December's siege of Base Tern, and arguing that success would have been possible had Illa Islanders been armed.

Although the right to own and operate rifles and semi-automatic pistols for hunting and self-defense has been reserved for Vancouvians since its founding, Illa residents were prevented from purchasing, carrying, and owning firearms since tensions began prior to the Base Tern incident. Originally supposed to be a temporary measure, the ban has stuck, and served only to further enrage the local populace.

Illa is not particularly defenseless. The vast majority of the 2,000-strong police force on Illa has pledged their loyalty to Illa, or at least, disacknowledged Vancouvian authority, in the past few weeks. There also have been growing anti-federalist gangs who have, for the most past, acquired firearms from the black market. Seeking to take advantage of the power vacuum and newfound demand, they have increased smuggling operations in tandem with criminal elements in Xrevaro, Arvan, and Lovsk.

Meanwhile, a second siege of Base Tern has begun, this time with several SAM anti-air missiles surrounding the base. Although no one is sure how the Illa Islanders could have possibly acquired such weapons, information has come out that they are Vancouvian-sourced. This puts the base in a difficult position - no longer able to airlift supplies in with the threat of aircraft being shot down, this leads many to believe that the Vancouvian army must land on the island in force to relieve the base. Such an action has already been listed as one move that would "force Illa to abandon Vancouvia altogether and declare its independence," according to Campos. While many commentators think that peaceful reconciliation is unlikely, Campos has assured both islands that nonviolence is a possibility if Illa's demands for semi-sovereignty are met and Base Tern is handed over to the IDM.

IDM-Sponsored Violence Erupts in Illa as Tensions Come to Boiling Point; Mayor Supports Terrorists Despite Congressional Removal

Over the past two weeks, a terrorist movement in Illa Isle has emerged: the Island Defense Militia (IDM), a group of armed radicals, mostly centered in Westilla, who have engaged in violent acts throughout the city and the island as a whole. Calling themselves the "People's Defenders" and claiming to seek peace and independence for all Illa Islanders, the group has continued to grow in popularity as their grassroots message has spread throughout the island.

This afternoon the Vancouvian Congress issued an address announcing that all members or supporters of the IDM are considered to be engaging in treason. This prompted the mayor of Westilla, Ignacio Campos, to issue a fiery speech from City Hall, claiming that no more Illa Islanders would be put to death by the "rampaging Vancouvian wolf." Ignacio, previously considered to be a competent conservative by Congress, was then immediately removed from office by a Congressional vote of 27-5. However, Iganacio continues to remain in de facto power, claiming that Congress has no right to interfere in local government affairs, citing the "clear" separation of federal and local powers in the Vancouvian Constitution.

This night, a relative calm has spread throughout the city as the IDM made known their intent to keep Ignacio Campos in power, protect Illa citizens, and peacefully remove the VNA and VSF soldiers from Base Tern on the outskirts of Westilla. Police have been called to multiple incidents involving the IDM, but a majority of them have refused to respond, or simply shown up at the scene but literally turned their backs on whatever violent act the IDM had been committing.

This seems to be the final straw that breaks the horse's back in a long string of incidents between Vancouvia and its newest island. Illa dissidents attacked and sieged Base Tern in December of last year, and Illa has since illicitly sent delegates to Hispanic and socialist conferences. Vancouvia has also pulled out of the Westilla E-Train project, a controversial move that took potentially billions of dollars of investment out of the Illa economy.

With Vancouvian soldiers already engaged in San Javier, the I.D., Athara Magarat, and Charbagnia, Congress will hopefully seek a peaceful end to this conflict, but most Senators are adamant that they will work to permanently remove these terrorists elements from power.

Vancouvian Government Pulls Out of Westilla "E-Train" Project Amidst Growing Discontent on Both Islands

The Vancouvian Congress issued a formal notice today that the long-proposed elevated train project in Westilla would be postponed indefinitely until "peaceful and safe working conditions" could be restored to the city. The project, which has been planned since late 2015, was to construct a lengthy series of tracks in and around Illa Isle's largest city, giving Westilla a long-awaited mass transport network and modernizing the city's growing sprawl. It was also projected to create thousands of local jobs for Westillans, who have an unemployment rate 5% higher than mainland Vancouvians.

Northern Azure, also known as Vancouvian National Rail, issued a short statement that they were "disappointed" that their project had been postponed, stating that "Northern Azure was looking forward to the construction of a municipal rail-line in the Vancouvian heartland." Critics, and this news organization, note that Northern Azure is majority owned by the Vancouvian Government.

Several spectators have claimed that this cancellation, whether temporary or permanent, is a direct response to Illa sending ambassadors to the Thuzbekistanian socialist conference and the Luso-Hispanic Association, as well as continued cyber attacks against government websites.

It remains to be seen what response, if any, Illa Islanders will give in the coming days, or whether a peaceful resolution is possible amidst growing animosity between Vancouvia and its latest annex.
