Hanaske. We have word from the surface. The yellow-petal woke up quickly, this time without incident. A single mental command, open, spread white filaments through her honeyed amnion like threads of ice, converting it into a gelatinous solid that subsequently retracted into the walls. Then the plas...

Desperation [FT, Closed]

The warship Iris Flare hurtled through slipspace, travelling at its maximum speed of 6484c. It was alone, separated from the rest of its fleet by ever-growing dozens of lightyears, and travelling with its main thrusters pointed forward. Its destination, the star Altarik-109, was approximately half a...

Rings around white circles are much too thin and dull to be visible from any distance. Ripple effect doesn't look good with this (or really any) flag. Also, if those circles are supposed to be celestial bodies, which is my first assumption, then I've seen plenty of similar designs before.

I'm not a fan of square checkerboard patterns, but they're a relatively minor part of this flag, and it's otherwise quite good. The sun rays originating from what I assume is a religious symbol manage to be inspiring and foreboding at once.

9/10 A simple yet unique design. The eagle should probably be equidistant from the top, left, and white stripe -- currently it's too high. Also, you have some corruption around the eagle, which should be easy to fix. Reuturn: 5.5/10 Colors are much too pastel, especially when adjacent to white. At l...

6.5/10 I mostly don't like the color choices. Blue and purple don't look good next to each other, nor do blue and dark orange. This flag could be improved substantially by simply replacing all the blue with purple, and perhaps using a more golden color for the phoenix. Otherwise the composition is g...

Probably yes, but it might take a while. The Zravvisk armada is somewhat stronger than the Camilan worldfleet, and since they all travel together, we would have to face down the brunt of their entire force at once. However, the very strength of the space dragons is also their weakness -- every ship ...

8.5/10 Composition is extremely solid. The coat of arms is exactly the right distance from the center, and is both distinctive and appealing. Personally, I would prefer a slightly grayer shade of blue, and the gray of the cat is light enough that it doesn't stand out much from the red coat of arms, ...

Their "Shivastra" fleet (which is like 1% of their strength) has more firepower than all the Conservancy's ships combined. Total war would be over before it started. At least the tech level is similar, so we might be able to threaten enough property damage to get them to leave us alone. Th...

4.5/10 I'm docking you a full four points for that shade of blue. Some people might like it, but it burns my eyes and makes me want to not look at your flag. The other colors aren't my favorite either, but they're workable enough, and if you must use orange then that's not a bad shade of it. I don't...

7.5/10 It's distinctive and immediately recognizable, and the color scheme is good, but it is pretty hard to tell what that symbol is supposed to be. I wouldn't have even guessed flower, I would have guessed saw blade. I can't help but feel that there must be some better way to represent a typhoon t...

9.5/10 Only because the white-on-gold in the eye is slightly questionable. Otherwise it's a perfect specimen -- pleasingly symmetric without being boring, easy to recognize and replicate, really good color scheme and contrast, and with all of the elements well proportioned. Probably looks good on a ...

9/10 I'm not sure I could fully articulate what I like about this one, I just really like it. Greater than the sum of its parts, I suppose. The proportions of everything are all perfect, and I think the ~2:1 ratio looks good. If you wanted to disambiguate the Mars symbol from the male symbol, perhap...

7.5/10 Pros: contents of central circle are cool. The symbol, white-on-navy, and ring of dots are highly distinctive without being too complicated. Color choices are solidly above average. Cons: tricolor background with circle in exact center of flag strikes me as a pretty uninspired setup. I honest...

Not a particularly original design, but it accomplishes what it's going for. If I had any nitpick, it would be that the key should probably be tilted outward like the sword is.

No. The sheer scale difference would be too much to overcome. Integration would be inevitable -- the best the Conservancy could hope is that it might be able to use the threat of resistance to negotiate favorable terms.

6.5/10

It's mostly the black and white stripes I'm not a fan of; the contrast is too harsh, and the odd spacing is not very pleasing to look at.

The central symbol doesn't help -- it's fairly generic and placed right in the center with no other elements -- but it's not really a problem, either.

Even at the Conservancy's strongest (~1321), it could go either way. Both nations have FTL and fusion power. Neither make full use of AGI. The Commonwealth has a larger population, a stronger economy, and a more powerful standing fleet, but they are more confined to a planetary surface, whereas the ...

Tenuous did not respond to Ulusha’s message. So insistent about evacuation. By this point, the shipmind figured, in any normal circumstance, this queen would have addressed its concerns. She would have been happy to present her argument for why, however futile flight might seem, it was the option th...

Cautiously, Shiska pulled down on the circular door’s handle, and it opened. The room on the other side was dark and empty, lit only by a single screen on one of the walls displaying a stylized image of a Camilan face. He stepped inside, and the door closed behind him. White light continued to trick...

The world’s skies were clear, unlike Etual’s. Below them, a temperate water-world, close to paradise for Camilans and Kyasians alike. Above, a single Camilan worldship, small and primitive, halls newly clamoring with life. Waterways rushed with Kyasian workers, airways whirred with Camilan machines ...

The following is accurate as of day 60, year 1375. Nation Name: the Conservancy Government Type (Democracy, Monarchy, Republic, Confederation): Probably best described as a confederation of monarchic city-states. National Leader(s): Under the above framing, each shipmind is the leade...

As the minutes dragged into hours, Tenuous found itself becoming annoyed. Speed of thought was apparently another thing the Kyasians didn’t place much value on. Perhaps it was not needed often, but even so, Tenuous could not shake the growing sense that it was speaking to a lesser being. Was its res...

“…a problem that I think you will find int….” The cold words brushed across the surface of the yellow-petal’s consciousness, triggering a cascade of activity that was yet not deep enough to be called understanding. For several moments she saw nothing. Then for several moments after that, her surroun...

It had been nearly 40 years since the start of the Camilans’ self-imposed exile. Qa-kayanda, the Great Betrayal, an event that still scarred the species’ collective memory, had made them realize exactly how precarious their mutualism with the Kyasians had been. “Them.” But of course the realization ...
