I don't have a good example of a country sharing a built up militarized border with another that is worried about a land invasion constantly.

What would the South Koreans build if they were worried about the North Koreans coming down and the North Koreans were actually a credible threat?

Maintaining a wooden structure is easier than constructing a concrete boxpill that can withstand significant firepower. It's also easier to source, in most instances, than concrete. Yes, you can lay concrete slabs in the field or ship slabs prefab, but that isn't a reasonable solution for anything ...

No. Aircraft would destroy these sort of fortifications pretty easily. But you might see multiple redundant firing positions and dummy positions setup for the batteries to use. Less "countries that last fought a war when musketry meant smoothbore muzzleloaders" and more "PVA in Korea...

Following up to a previous question I had regarding the survivability of towed versus self propelled artillery, and how towed emplacements enjoy better survivability given enough time to dig in. What if you had an extreme excess of time (months, or years even) and wanted to build up protected positi...

I don't know if this is understandable, but this is simplest way to make towed artillery more resistant to CB fire. Especially with modern intra battalion communications and gun ranges. I understand that dispersing your tubes reduces how many of your dudes get exposed to each particular counterbatt...

Towed artillery can be better under certain circumstances, they are lighter which means they can be airdropped or helicopter transported much more easily, they can be better dug in and concealed, which is a bonus as well. It is hardly suicidal, especially if your crew are well trained and know what...

Hello guys, I appreciate the help you all have given me in the past and I have a bunch more questions: 1) Was/is the high-low mix of aircraft a thing any more? It seems to me that you'd want the most capable aircraft you can to fight peer-level adversaries, and if you need something to just drop bom...

It's not just a matter of production tooling, it's an entire supply chain and skilled industrial base. You can try to buy or copy the stamping presses for the wing panels or whatever, but are you going to buy up GE's turbofan engine production chain? The Hughes avionics division? What are you going...

muh f-14 The Iranians wanted AIM-54 to catch Soviet MiG-25s, and were willing to pay top dollar to get it. Everyone else wanted a general-purpose air superiority fighter and conducted an actual cost-benefit analysis. If I were to shamelessly rip off the Iranian situation and have my fictional count...

Years ago, I had always operated under the belief that the F-14 wasn't really marketed overseas and that the Iran sale was a unique one off. So I was somewhat shocked to learn (assuming that the random bits on the internet I read are accurate) that it had been considered by Canada, Japan, Israel, We...

The decoys exist as a part of the real battery, they are not separate, and they aren't going to make the enemy think there is a battalion there is actually nothing. They'll make the enemy confused for a few moments until he realizes everything is fake and flies in at 30,000 feet, above the range of...

Mobile SAMs would be a waste unless they are effective against the threat, and SAMs are not very effective except in a few unique situations: they need to passively cued and (preferably) passively guided, to avoid giving the ambush away (or they need to be used against things that lack radar warnin...

How would one go about building an air force with the understanding that in any potential conflict, the opposing side will inevitably have air superiority? Closest real world example I can think of is being Taiwan while planning for China, except in our example Taiwan is about twice as big, isn't po...

Simplest way to start is to find a real country that closely matches yours and adjust as necessary.

In closing, though not specifically mention, since power projection is not a great priority, increasing the number of OPVs like the planned Paolo Thaon di Revel Class capable of engaging other vessels with missiles wouldn’t be a bad investment. Also, maybe some type of small AOE/Replenishment ship ...

Does the US exist in your canon? No, but we have a more or less direct analogue to it. If you said no, did it collapse, never exist or did you conquer it? The analogue still exists. Is it one of your allies? We value our neutrality, so no Is it an enemy? I guess they're a potential one, but no. Do ...

Carriers aren't just for force projection into hostile territories; Japan operates a number of carriers focused on anti-submarine operations to extend the reach of its ASW network. Tourism is actually big in Albynau, but the main reasons are:
1) Port taxes are pretty high, hence travel to Albynau is notably higher than our neighbors
2) Strict visa requirements
3) A rather draconian policy on recreational drug use

I understand the 30mm RARDEN was developed early on to be a compact weapon that didn't need external power, used the smallest possible turret space so the British could cram it into itty bitty vehicles, with a large caliber round to shoot Soviet APCs from long range, and so sacrificed fire rate and ...
