There are plenty of places that are both museums and places of worship. I don't think holding an occasional religious service is a problem as long as they are still preserving the building and allowing tourist visits. I understand Erdogan is not the most trustworthy person, and it's fair to be conce...

I like Will Smith, but he's just one person. Not everyone can be Will Smith. Not everyone has his charisma and work ethic. Even if people do try, not everyone will get noticed like he did. I'm glad he made it cos I like some of his movies, but expecting people to follow in his footsteps is not a via...

This is an interesting topic, and the writing quality is OK, but I think it could be even better if you dug into the way volunteerism screws with job markets. Kids handing out stupid trinkets is not the best example of harmful "voluntourism." It's pointless, but it's not economically toxic...

But it's worth noting that it would be controversial if you limit who can join. This would most likely get your bid voted down.

Can I still make an basketball league?

Yes. It just would be separate from the IBC.

If you want to run an IBC, you have to bid for it next time it runs. Can't just start your own. when is the bid? I'm not sure. Keep an eye out for the next sign-up thread. But it's worth noting that it would be controversial if you limit who can join. This would most likely get your bid voted down.

There are no restrictions on entry to the IBC when the time comes. You are free to run a tournament, but you can't declare it has any relevance to an established tournament like the IBC. I was planning on running a IBC If you want to run an IBC, you have to bid for it next time it runs. Can't just ...

So if I understand the situation correctly, the daughter decided to confront the white woman after the two bumped into each other, specifically to demand an apology. Oh, one of those. I've been around the block enough times with that sort of behavior. The whole episode is rather dumb, though. I don...

This is really cute, and there's nothing wrong with putting yourself or other player-authors in alongside the editors and mods. The problem is that the parallels to the original plastic bag issue are too strong, and it will seem repetitive.

But seriously, it is cute.

I've thought of a suggestion of my own. A player-based oversight committee. One that can screen potential moderation recruits to make sure they don't show such biases, and to make sure political biases don't make their way into moderation decisions. Kind of like GenSec. I think a workable solution ...

What's this now? if people actually tried posting their greivances with specific mods openly in this thread you'd tell them to hush it and file a GHR or something so like why even ask I think this is an issue with transparency. It's pretty common to see people saying "one mod" this or &qu...

I see you playing stupid word games. Christ is a specific person. "Right wing" is a vaguely defined term. The similarity of the words "Christ" and "Christian" does not mean that they are exactly the same thing. One is a person and the other is a religion. Right-wing is...

You're the one sniping at a non-point. The topic's over thattaway. Thank you for making my case perfectly. I've already made my point regarding the closure of the -WDT's, and yet, the discussion is overall a discussion of moderation policy. My point is perfectly within the topic, Monitor. An issue ...

If you're against the locks, why are you trying to get more threads locked? It's counterproductive. You're more likely to get additional threads locked than to get them to rescind the ruling on LWDT/RWDT. We're trying to demonstrate that if the mods wanted to be consisted with their ruling in the m...

Ftr I'm not just talking about CDT. Take, for example, the libertarian discussion thread. This is a thread dedicated to half the political compass, just like RWDT and LWDT were. But it is not locked. The Libertarian Discussion Thread is arguably a worse offender than LWDT or RWDT because both left-...

But LWDT hasn't had RWDT's issues following site rules, either. It was still really broad. Also, as others have said, it would be untenable to allow a left-wing thread, but not a right-wing one. And of course there's a common thread tying right/left wing ideologies together: Adherence to right/left...

I don't think trying to get the Christian Discussion Thread locked in the name of consistency is a great plan. It doesn't have the same problems that got LWDT and RWDT locked. It does a decent job of staying on topic and following site rules, and I would argue that Christian theology is a narrower t...
